‘Arcane' Producer Fortiche Teaming With ARTE France on Coming-of-Age Mini-Series ‘Miss Saturne'

Yahoo10-06-2025
At the Annecy Animation Festival today, Fortiche, the acclaimed French animation house behind the hit series 'Arcane,' announced it is diving into original IP with the upcoming miniseries 'Miss Saturne, a 10×10-minute animated project currently developed in collaboration with ARTE France and Les Storygraphes.
'Miss Saturne' was previously pitched as a feature and appeared at Cartoon Movie in 2017, but has been retooled as ten, 10-minute episode project to better align with younger viewing habits and digital platforms. How closely the new series will adhere to that original pitch hasn't been made clear, but the companies are describing it as a 'generational fiction infused with music.'

'Miss Saturne' is based on the novel by Barbara Israël and will target teenagers and young adults with a visually stylized 2D look and a heavy dose of 1980s pop atmosphere. The series is currently in development, with a production start eyed for 2026 and a release scheduled for 2027. It follows 16-year-old Mercy and her companion Tom as they flee their past aboard a night train out of Nice. The story unfolds through flashbacks triggered by a New Wave mixtape, delving into themes of adolescence, grief and personal identity.
Screenwriter Louise Silverio, known for 'Happiness' and 'Ceux qui rougissent,' is leading the writing, while Anne Raffin, an alum of 'Arcane' and various music videos, is on board as art director and director. Other confirmed credits include Israël and Vincent Tavier on the literary bible, with Israël's original novel serving as the foundation for the series.
''Miss Saturne' is a unique project that, while rooted in the '80s, captures the essence of adolescence with a musical and emotional intensity that crosses generations,' said Annelyse Vieilledent, co-producer at Les Storygraphes. 'At a time when young people are rediscovering the retro musical repertoire of that decade, I'm convinced that this free, visceral and resolutely pop tale will resonate strongly with them.'
Fortiche co-founder Jérôme Combe added: 'With 'Miss Saturne,' we've found a team with the perfect artistic sensibility. Louise Silverio brings her already known flair for coming-of-age stories, having worked on the award-winning series 'Happiness' and 'Ceuxqui rougissent.' Anne Raffin, who worked on 'Arcane' and music videos, fully shares our desire to explore a strong aesthetic for today's youth. This project is an opportunity for us to explore indie animation designed for the new generation.'
As part of its development push, Fortiche is actively seeking international partners, broadcasters and distributors interested in young adult animation. Financial support has already been secured from Région Occitanie and Pictanovo. Production is being handled by Fortiche Films (Jérôme Combe, Hervé Dupont), with Les Storygraphes and ARTE France onboard as co-producers.

From the Archives: Kirsten Dunst as the Young Queen in Sofia Coppola's Film Marie Antoinette

'Teen Queen,' by Kennedy Fraser, was originally published in the September 2006 issue of Vogue. For more of the best from Vogue's archive, sign up for our Nostalgia newsletter here. Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette, covering the nineteen years that fabulous and tragic woman spent at Versailles, created a sensation when it opened earlier this year in France. It was filmed largely on location in the palace, with unswerving support from the directors of the museum. For the two leading actors—Kirsten Dunst as the young queen and Coppola's cousin Jason Schwartzman as King Louis XVI—it was a transformative experience to walk in rustling silk and tapping heels through halls filled with ghosts. For Dunst, exquisitely but unstuffily costumed by Milena Canonero (who deserves an Oscar for this work), it was a very sensual role. 'You breathe differently in those dresses; you move in a special way,' Dunst says. To prepare herself, on the night a scaled-down crew was filming her in the emotionally charged balcony scene, she walked alone through the palace in the dark. 'I could look in those mirrors,' she says. 'Be still in myself. Feel my place in that house.' It is Coppola's third full-length film, after The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. With a $40 million budget, it is by far her most ambitious project. She was aware that her subject is controversial—that people, especially in France, either see the queen as a saint and martyr or really, really hate her. But Coppola forgot about all that and brought her own Marie Antoinette to life. In her film, history is seen from a very feminine young woman's point of view. In the director's mind it forms a trilogy with the previous two films, exploring the theme of young women discovering who they are. The queen's love of fashion particularly interested her. 'You're considered superficial and silly if you're interested in fashion,' Coppola says. 'But I think you can be substantial and still be interested in frivolity. The girl in Lost in Translation is just about to figure out a way of finding herself, but she hasn't yet. In this film she makes the next step. I feel that Marie Antoinette is a very creative person.' In 1770, the fourteen-year-old Archduchess Marie Antoinette left her home in Austria and traveled to meet her fifteen-year-old fiancé, the dauphin, heir to the throne of France. She was an attractive little thing, with blonde hair, blue eyes, a fine pale skin, and the pouting Hapsburg-family lower lip. She was the fifteenth child of a formidable mother, the Empress Maria Theresa, who led her huge empire so efficiently that she went on reading state papers while she was giving birth. At the last minute it had been discovered that the future bride (who liked dancing and playing with children and dolls) could barely read and write. Her mother arranged for a crash education and a makeover, including cosmetic dentistry, a less provincial hairdo, and a complete new wardrobe of French-style clothes. Then the girl rolled through the forest in a special gilded coach with gold roses (symbol of the Hapsburgs) and lilies (symbol of the Bourbons) nodding in a topknot on the roof. Behind the huge glass windows she was like a jewel in a padded case. From now on, her mother had warned her, all eyes would be upon her, and she should do what she was told. Maria Theresa had anxious premonitions; her girl was lively and affectionate in nature but had the attention span of a flea.

The Iggy Index: 5 Models That Vogue's Global Casting Director Is Looking Forward to Seeing This Couture Season

Before the fashion industry goes on summer vacation, there's one more stop on the global tour—couture week. The three-day extravaganza of opulence and glamour begins tomorrow with Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli before it closes with a much-anticipated debut from Glenn Martens at Maison Margiela. It's an important stage not only for the designers who spend months in their atelier working on their collections, but also for the models who walk the runways. Ignacio Murillo, Vogue's Global Casting Director, knows this very well. And he's especially looking forward to the cast at Schiaparelli. 'It's the most exciting one to me. Every dress feels one-of-a-kind and looks incredible to a viewer like me watching from home,' he said, adding if he turned model-for-a-day and could walk any runway, he'd pick Roseberry's. Back in real life, who will be the top models of the season and which shows is he expecting them to walk? Below, Murillo shares his top-five model wishlist for the fall 2025 couture season. Jacqui Hooper's first-ever runway show was the Alaïa fall 2025 ready-to-wear show—I mean talk about a debut! She'll make her couture debut this season and I think she'll bring her A-game.
