Russia's deputy PM Andrey Rudenko meets Indian envoy, reaffirms to counter

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said on X, 'On April 28, Deputy FM Andrey #Rudenko met with India's Ambassador @vkumar1969. Russia's readiness to counter the global terrorist threat, together with India was reaffirmed.'
The officials discussed current bilateral issues and the schedule of upcoming political contacts, as well as the general situation in the South Asian region, including the escalation of tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the terrorist attack near Pahalgam in Kashmir, according to an official statement.
This comes after a terror attack on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam targeted tourists, killing 26 people, including one Nepalese national.
The victims were gunned down near Baisaran Meadow, a popular tourist destination in the region.
This attack marks one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which resulted in the deaths of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.
Following a terror attack, India on Friday revoked all categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens, except long-term visas, diplomatic and official visas, with immediate effect from April 27. However, medical visas issued to Pakistani nationals will be valid only till April 29.
Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with the chief secretaries of all the states and asked them to take necessary action in this regard. The fresh decision taken by the MHA marks a sweeping policy shift aimed at tightening border security and regulating the presence of Pakistani nationals within the country.
Following the decision, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held telephonic consultations with the chief ministers of all states, directing them to identify Pakistani nationals currently residing in their respective territories and instructing them to take immediate steps to ensure the prompt deportation of these individuals. Khan, 72, has been lodged at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023 in multiple cases. 'I am enduring the harshest prison term in the country's history solely for the supremacy of the Constitution and in service of my nation,' he was quoted as saying in a post uploaded on his verified X handle. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'The level of oppression and authoritarianism is such that even the water I have for ablution is filthy and contaminated with dirt, unfit for any human being,' Khan alleged. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder alleged the books sent to him by his family have been withheld for months and access to television and newspapers has also been suspended. 'I have spent countless hours re-reading the same old books, but now even those are no longer available,' he said. Khan asserted that no political leader in Pakistan's history has faced the kind of treatment he is currently experiencing. He contrasted this with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who, despite being involved in several corruption cases, 'was granted every possible comfort' during his imprisonment. Khan emphasised that his wife, Bushra Bibi, who is 'innocent' and not involved in politics, is being subjected to 'inhumane conditions' in prison. The 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician further alleged that all his basic human rights have been violated. Even the minimum facilities accorded to ordinary prisoners under the law and the jail manual are denied to him. 'Despite repeated requests, I have not been allowed to speak to my children. Political meetings have also been restricted; I am only permitted to meet certain 'choice individuals', while all other interactions are barred,' he said. The PTI is all set to launch the 'Free Imran Khan Movement' from August 5 across the country. Khan's sons –Suleman and Kasim — are currently in the US, meeting with the Trump administration and Congressmen as part of efforts to release Khan who has been in jail for the last two years in multiple cases. 'I am waging a battle against a 78-year-old system, and my greatest success is that despite unprecedented oppression, the public stands firmly with me,' Khan said. He said on February 8, 2024, the people expressed their trust in PTI by voting for it even in the absence of an electoral symbol. 'After such a clear mandate, it is the moral and political responsibility of every party member to become the voice of the people. It will be nothing short of disgraceful and condemnable if PTI leaders waste time on internal conflicts at this critical juncture. Anyone found engaging in factionalism within the party will be expelled,' he said. PM Modi Lands In Maldives For 2-Day Visit: What's On Agenda
Male: Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at Velana International Airport in Male on Friday for a two-day visit to the Maldives. He was received by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, amidst traditional song performances and chants of "Vande Mataram". The warm welcome given to the Prime Minister reflects the growing warmth and cultural ties between the two countries. PM Modi is visiting the Maldives at the invitation of President Muizzu to participate as the Guest of Honour at the country's 60th Independence Day celebrations, a significant diplomatic gesture symbolising deepening bilateral ties. India was among the first nations to recognise Maldivian independence in 1965 and establish diplomatic relations. This is the Indian leader's third visit to the South Asian country and notably the first by any head of state or government during President Muizzu's tenure. What's On The Agenda The Foreign Ministry said that during PM Modi's stay, he and President Muizzu will take stock of the progress in the implementation of the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a 'Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership', adopted during the State Visit of the President of Maldives to India in October 2024. The two leaders will also hold talks on bilateral cooperation in areas including infrastructure development, defence cooperation, and economic connectivity, strengthening the multi-faceted partnership between the two countries. India and the Maldives share longstanding ethnic, linguistic, cultural, religious, and commercial links. PM Modi's visit highlights India's continued commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and the broader strategic framework of Vision MAHASAGAR, aimed at fostering regional cooperation and security in the Indian Ocean, the Foreign Ministry said. Further, PM Modi's visit carries profound significance as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' independence, along with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India, according to the official press release. India's prompt military assistance during the 1988 coup attempt in the Maldives built enduring trust. The swift withdrawal of Indian troops afterwards helped assure Maldivian sovereignty, reinforcing India's image as a reliable partner. India-Maldives Ties Over the years, the relationship between New Delhi and Male has mostly remained close, cordial, and free of political contention. The ties turned frosty when Muizzu used the 'India out' plank, taking off on a campaign by former President Abdulla Yameen, for his successful presidential bid in September 2023. But within months, a notable thaw in ties was seen after the meeting of PM Modi and Muizzu on the sidelines of the UN COP 28 climate summit in Dubai in December 2023, where they agreed to bolster economic and bilateral partnership.
