Cards activate Iván Herrera from 10-day injured list, place Lars Nootbaar on IL

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals activated Iván Herrera from the 10-day injured list on Sunday before the series finale against the Atlanta Braves. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals placed outfielder Lars Nootbaar on the 10-day IL with a left rib injury. Herrera hasn't appeared in the lineup since June 19 when he strained his hamstring rounding first base after a hit in the first game of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. Herrera, who missed time earlier this season with a knee issue, is hitting .320 with eight homers and 36 RBIs. He has played in 42 games this year. He was in the lineup Sunday as the designated hitter. Nootbaar left Saturday's game in the sixth inning and did not return. Nootbaar has battled rib pain and an intercostal strain for several weeks. He is batting .227 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs. ___ AP MLB:

Tigers Pushed To Steal $66 Million Yankees Trade Target In Huge Deal

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees have been connected to infielder Eugenio Suárez ahead of the trade deadline for a few weeks now. The fit makes perfect sense. New York needs a slugger, and the Arizona Diamondbacks will likely look to deal away their expiring star. But the Yankees aren't the only team that'll have interest in Suárez in the coming weeks. In fact, there will likely be five or six teams, at least, with some interest in poaching the slugger from Arizona. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently suggested the Detroit Tigers could swoop in and trade for Suárez right out from under the Yankees' nose. PHOENIX, ARIZONA - JULY 03: Eugenio Suarez #28 of the Arizona Diamondbacks gets ready in the batters box against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field on July 03, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. PHOENIX, ARIZONA - JULY 03: Eugenio Suarez #28 of the Arizona Diamondbacks gets ready in the batters box against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field on July 03, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona."The Detroit Tigers have the best record in the majors and are a team that has as good of a chance as any to get to the World Series, but the Yankees might be their biggest threat in the American League," Rotman wrote. "Acquiring Suarez would not only take away a perfect Yankees fit, but it'd make the Tigers that much better. "Suarez, once a Tiger himself, could give the Tigers another big right-handed bat they could use. The Tigers have several potent left-handed sluggers like Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Zach McKinstry, and Colt Keith, but outside of Gleyber Torres and Spencer Torkelson, who are their big righties? Suarez would give their lineup more balance and a needed injection of power." The Tigers make a lot of sense as a fit for Suárez. Detroit needs a third baseman this season, and a reunion with its former slugger would add some much-needed pop to the lineup. Detroit is one of the best teams in baseball. If it can land a deal for a star like Suárez, the Tigers could separate themselves at the top of the American League. More MLB: Astros Listed As Landing Spot In Potential Trade For $45 Million Ace
