The New York Yankees have been connected to infielder Eugenio Suárez ahead of the trade deadline for a few weeks now. The fit makes perfect sense. New York needs a slugger, and the Arizona Diamondbacks will likely look to deal away their expiring star.
But the Yankees aren't the only team that'll have interest in Suárez in the coming weeks. In fact, there will likely be five or six teams, at least, with some interest in poaching the slugger from Arizona.
FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently suggested the Detroit Tigers could swoop in and trade for Suárez right out from under the Yankees' nose.
PHOENIX, ARIZONA - JULY 03: Eugenio Suarez #28 of the Arizona Diamondbacks gets ready in the batters box against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field on July 03, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona.
PHOENIX, ARIZONA - JULY 03: Eugenio Suarez #28 of the Arizona Diamondbacks gets ready in the batters box against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field on July 03, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona."The Detroit Tigers have the best record in the majors and are a team that has as good of a chance as any to get to the World Series, but the Yankees might be their biggest threat in the American League," Rotman wrote. "Acquiring Suarez would not only take away a perfect Yankees fit, but it'd make the Tigers that much better.
"Suarez, once a Tiger himself, could give the Tigers another big right-handed bat they could use. The Tigers have several potent left-handed sluggers like Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Zach McKinstry, and Colt Keith, but outside of Gleyber Torres and Spencer Torkelson, who are their big righties? Suarez would give their lineup more balance and a needed injection of power."
The Tigers make a lot of sense as a fit for Suárez. Detroit needs a third baseman this season, and a reunion with its former slugger would add some much-needed pop to the lineup.
Detroit is one of the best teams in baseball. If it can land a deal for a star like Suárez, the Tigers could separate themselves at the top of the American League.

MLB's ABS system gets early test in 2025 All-Star Game — and leaves Tarik Skubal laughing

MLB's automatic ball-strike challenge system was put to the test early in Tuesday's All-Star Game. And it handled the situation with good accuracy. During the bottom of the first inning with the National League batting at Truist Park in Atlanta, Tigers ace and American League starter Tarik Skubal threw on 0-2 changeup to Padres third baseman Manny Machado that was ruled a ball by home plate umpire Dan Iassogna. Advertisement 3 Tarik Skubal's 0-2 pitch was initially called a ball. Fox Sports MLB/X AL catcher Cal Raleigh, though, wasn't so sure and quickly tapped his head, signaling for an ABS challenge. Advertisement Just seconds later, he was proven correct and Machado was called out on strikes. 3 Cal Raleigh challenged the call. Fox Sports MLB/X 'Hey, you take 'em any way you can get 'em boys,' a mic'd up Skubal said from the mound with a laugh. ABS, which was been used in the minor leagues the past few seasons, was deployed during big league spring training this year and was added into this game's Midsummer Classic in another test run. Advertisement Commissioner Rob Mafred indicated in June that the new challenge system will likely be used in the regular season in 2026. 3 The call was overturned and Skubal got a strikeout. Fox Sports MLB/X 'I think that teams are really positive about ABS,' Manfred said earlier this summer, according to The Athletic. 'You know, I do have that unscientific system that I use — my email traffic — and my distinct impression is that using ABS in spring training has made people more prone to complain about balls and strike calls via email, to me, referencing the need for ABS. That is undoubtedly true, undoubtedly true.'

Why Latest $10 Million Trade Rumors Make Perfect Sense For Red Sox

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Boston Red Sox have been on quite a roller-coaster ride this year. They came into the year looking like World Series contenders. Following a few injuries and the shocking trade of Rafael Devers, the Red Sox struggled. But they've since gotten hot and won a lot of games. It seems like they're on the fence about buying and selling at the trade deadline. There's a chance the Red Sox can buy and sell at the same time this season. Brian Burrows of Bo Sox Injection recently suggested the Red Sox could trade star closer Aroldis Chapman if they opt to sell ahead of the trade deadline. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JULY 10: Aroldis Chapman #44 of the Boston Red Sox high fives teammates after a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Raysc at Fenway Park on July 10, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JULY 10: Aroldis Chapman #44 of the Boston Red Sox high fives teammates after a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Raysc at Fenway Park on July 10, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts."The Cuban flame-thrower (Aroldis Chapman) is having one of the best seasons of his career at age 37. He signed a one-year, $10.75 million contract in the offseason, making him one of the best rentals on the market," Burrows wrote. "Back in 2016, the Yankees traded Chapman at the deadline to the Cubs for four players, including Gleyber Torres (the Cubs' top prospect headed into the season). He's much older now, but could still net at least one high-quality prospect if he's moved." Trading Chapman seems like the kind of move the Red Sox should make, regardless of which way they lean at the deadline. Obviously, if the Red Sox are selling, they will look to trade Chapman. But if they're buying, they could still look to deal away the star closer. It's unlikely the team will re-sign him in free agency at the end of the year. While Chapman makes the team better, he would likely be more valuable to the future of the team as a trade chip. Boston could potentially net one or two potential star prospects in a deal that ships Chapman out of town. More MLB: Why Padres 'Trade Deadline Dream Scenario' Makes Perfect Sense For San Diego
