Rivals season 2 begins filming and fans are demanding one big change

Metro22-05-2025

Rivals is officially back in business for season two on Disney Plus and Hulu in the US.
The cast of the romping Jilly Cooper adaptation shared a selection of set snaps of the cast in their 80s period gear, confirming the smash show is winding its way back onto our screens.
The slideshow of pictures sees Nafessa Williams holding a clapperboard reading 'Rivals 2', smiling alongside Alexander Hassell wearing a polo kit –naturally – and Aidan Turner with his handlebar moustache back in effect.
Also pictured in the sunny behind-the-scenes snaps were Bella Maclean, Lisa McGrillis and Danny Dyer, who is similarly moustachioed and dressed for a polo match. David Tennant was conspicuously absent from the post, after his character Tony Baddingham met a sticky fate at the end of the first season, but it is understood he will be back for the second instalment.
The show's fans were quick to take to the comments to celebrate the exciting update from Rutshire, and several had a particular request for the second season of the show.
The eighth and final episode of season one ended on a myriad of cliffhangers, and one of them was the question of where Rupert Campbell-Black (Hassell) and Taggie O'Hara's (Maclean) budding romance might go next.
Fans are now asking for more scenes between the pair in the upcoming season, with @myoannsmithh writing: 'I am only here for Taggie and Rupert,' while @vidagomez5 very excitedly added: 'RUPERT TAGGIE.' More Trending
@beyzayetkins pleaded in the comments: 'Pls more Rupert and Taggie.'
Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cook shares her take on the Rivals relationship…
The series-long simmering attraction between Rupert, a retired Olympian turned MP, and 17 years his junior Taggie never quite sit right.
The fact he's old enough to be her father is pointed out by Taggie's dad, Declan (who Rupert is mates with) as well as Taggie's mum Maud (who makes several unsuccessful passes at Rupert herself).
This relationship might have passed muster in the 80s, but with a modern-day sensibility feels odd, particularly given the power imbalance at play. Rupert is a literal member of Parliament, constantly being called off-screen to gab with Margaret Thatcher. Taggie is an aspiring caterer getting to grips with her dyslexia diagnosis.
Still, there are age gap romances aplenty. But this one gets going when Rupert gropes Taggie in front of her parents. Another queasy choice.
Of course, if fans are excited for more Rupert and Taggie (Raggie? Tupert?), Rivals has pulled off the impressive trick of conquering romance in spite of all that.
After the show's first season became one of Disney Plus' most successful UK shows to date, we're in store for a supercharged second season comprising 12 episodes in total.
The show will pick up with the second half of Cooper's bonkbuster novel, following the swirling drama of careers, marriages, infidelity and egos in the Cotswolds. We can't wait.

ITV series Blind Date is being rebooted by Disney Plus

Blind Date, the iconic British dating show which aired in the 1980s, is coming back. Disney Plus has announced that the "ultimate dating series" is being "reimagined for a contemporary audience". However, it is said the new show will have "unique, innovative and head-turning format twists". NEW 🚨 Disney+ are rebooting #BlindDate in their first step into UK based reality TV! The new format will see the iconic wall return with 3 blind-daters behind, but the daters will now spend a summer living together… with potential new partners always lurking behind the wall 👀 The original Blind Date, hosted by Cilla Black, originally ran on Saturday nights from 1985 to on ITV. The show was rebooted once before, in 2017, on Channel 5 and was presented by Paul O'Grady. The show's format saw three single people, who were behind a curtain, introduced to the audience. They were then asked a question by another individual, who could hear but not see them, who then picked one to go on a date with. The couple then picked an envelope naming their destination and in the following episode, the couple's date was shown. The new Disney Plus series will still feature the blind date aspect but will also have a new format. Explaining the show, Disney Plus said: "The ultimate dating series Blind Date is back - bigger, better, and bolder than ever. "The new series will begin in a secret Blind Date location, where contestants must choose between three potential suitors, hidden from view behind the legendary Blind Date wall, the only thing standing between them and their potential true love just metres away. "With a host of unique, innovative and head-turning format twists, our daters will see if forever love can truly grow as they spend the summer living together but potential new partners are always lurking behind the wall." Sean Doyle, executive director of Unscripted at Disney Plus, added: "Blind Date is a brilliant opportunity to bring everyone's favourite dating show to a large scale with the potential to resonate with a whole new generation." Following the announcement, fans of the show took to social media with excitement. However, many were keen for the show to keep its original format in the reboot. One said: "Needs to be ITV Saturday night, but don't mess with the format, going to spoil it keep it the original format." Recommended reading: Another added: "Is this a wind-up? They've turned a classic show into a Love Island style version..." A third said: "No need to mess with the format, when you mess with established formats, that's when they fail. Blind Date mixing in reality TV element is not needed." Production will begin on Blind Date later this year, with further details set to be announced in due course.

Emily Atack's ‘supportive' Boden swimsuit with detachable straps is now on sale

Emily Atack recently shared snaps of her topping up her tan as she wore this multiway swimsuit from Boden that's currently on sale by using this discount code Emily Atack has been making the most of the hot weather recently as she lounged back in her garden to soak up some rays. Sharing a picture with fans of her reclining in her garden on a sunny afternoon, some of her Instagram followers may be wondering where they can shop the exact swimsuit Emily reached for when topping up her tan - and the best part is, not only do we know where to shop one of your own, it's also on sale with this handy discount code. The Rivals starlet was wearing this Milos Smocked Swimsuit from Boden, which boasts multiple ways to wear. Keep the straps for a halterneck or detach them for a bandeau style, just like Emily's. This swimsuit is currently available in all sizes, spanning 6 to 20, and comes in three shades, including the actress's Jam Red shade. It features a high-leg silhouette and an all-over smocked effect. It's fixed cups and silicone tape at the neckline make for a comfortable, supported fit, whether you're swimming or sunbathing. And the perks don't end there, as this swimsuit is made from a material that passes testing to UPF50+, meaning it provides plenty of protection against UV rays in areas covered by the swimsuit. It is worth noting you should still wear suncream when wearing this swimming costume, and protection may also be reduced when wet or stretched. Right now, shoppers can save a handy 15% on this swimsuit thanks to Boden's new women's wear sale. Simply punch in the code JM7D at checkout to secure your discount. It's not just Emily who loves this Boden piece, as plenty of reviews pile in. One 5-star reviewer raves: "The smocking makes this bandeau fresh and unique. The length is above average, which is fantastic for a 5'7" frame, but I still needed to size up because the smocking acts as a fantastic 'shapewear'. I have limited curves and would not recommend it for anyone with curves." And this buyer beams: "Suit is very comfy. Material is a bit thick - but I would not say it feels warm or heavy. Actually feels very expensive and well made. Very pleased with purchase." While a third shares the same sentiments, saying: " I love this suit! I got it in the purple and the colors are so vibrant, that is definitely my favorite part about it. The fit is really flattering, it holds you in without feeling compressive. It was a little difficult to get on but once it is on, it feels great. I have two kids and was able to confidently wear this with them without feeling like I had to keep pulling on my suit." And this thrilled customer gushes: " Talk about sucking you in! This material is thick and it was like wearing spanx. I am ok with a thick suit if it makes me look 10 lbs thinner. The strapless top isn't going anywhere. It's bright and beautiful. If you are on the fence just buy it!" If you prefer to shop alternatives, check out this Textured Bow Tie Swimsuit from & Other Stories for £57. Or, if you're looking for that tummy control feature, Pour Moi's Santa Monica Strapless Tummy Control Multi Way Swimsuit is a great choice for £49.
