How far did LSU baseball's RPI fall after loss to Ole Miss
LSU baseball exited the SEC Baseball Tournament with a semi-final loss to Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers' pitching continued to roll, but the lineup was dormant. LSU was shut out and limited to just two hits all day. LSU's offense had been prone to going quiet at times, but not to that level.
Following the loss, LSU still feels good about its chances of earning a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. But the Tigers' RPI took a hit. LSU now ranks No. 12 in the RPI, tumbling three spots from where it entered the day. Meanwhile, Ole Miss jumped six spots, from No. 16 to No. 10.
LSU fans shouldn't be concerned. RPI is meaningful, but it isn't everything. According to D1Baseball, LSU is projected to be the No. 5 overall seed.
With conference tournaments wrapping up on Sunday, LSU will have to wait to see the bracket. The NCAA will reveal the field of 64 around 11 a.m. CT on Monday.

Dabo Swinney's biggest questions as Clemson football opens preseason practice

CLEMSON — Clemson football will start the 2025 season in a month. The Tigers will open preseason July 31 before stating the season against LSU Aug. 30 (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC) at Memorial Stadium. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney returns a veteran and talented team, but he and his staff will have to address critical issues, including position battles, for the Tigers to repeat as ACC champions and return to the College Football Playoff. Here are some key questions that should be on the 17-year Tigers coach's checklist during the preseason. Can Tom Allen turn Clemson football defense around? New defensive coordinator Tom Allen has made it an emphasis to connect with coaches and players since being hired in January. He has instilled accountability, reviewing last year's film and spring practices with coaches and making players do up-downs if they make mistakes in practice. Now, Allen, who came from Penn State, will need his defense to put it together in preseason. He has said there is a different confidence level coming from his lone season with the Nittany Lions to Clemson. Penn State was No. 3 in scoring defense and No. 2 in total defense when he arrived; Clemson was 50th in scoring defense and 69th in total defense in 2024. Clemson's defense has the talent and experience to be better under Allen after the Tigers ranked 84th in run defense last season. Improving on making tackles, gap vision and edge integrity will be critical. Can Cade Klubnik elevate his performance in fourth season? Quarterback Cade Klubnik is appreciative Swinney stuck with him after his sophomore season and rewarded him with a monstrous 2024 season. He led Clemson to an ACC championship win and a CFP appearance, throwing for 3,639 yards (10th in FBS) with 36 touchdowns (third) — both career highs. Swinney said he and his staff can put more on Klubnik, including "package stuff and check-with-me type stuff" because of his intelligence. Still, Swinney added he wants the quarterback to do more of the same that helped him last season, like using his legs to run and extend plays and limiting turnovers. MORE: Is Clemson football's 2025 defensive line the 'Power Rangers' sequel? What Dabo Swinney says Klubnik has Heisman trophy aspirations and could be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. With all of his end-of-year starting wide receivers and four of his starting offensive linemen back, he could have another strong season to solidify his NFL standing and help Clemson compete for the national championship. How will Clemson divide receiver playing time? Those starting wide receivers are Antonio Williams, Bryant Wesco Jr. and T.J. Moore. Clemson also has Tyler Brown, Cole Turner and transfer Tristan Smith. Swinney believes all have NFL potential, but all can't be on the field at the same time on offense. The Tigers dealt with a similar issue last season with Williams, Wesco, Moore, Brown, Turner, Adam Randall and Troy Stellato. According to Pro Football Focus, Williams led receivers in snaps with 739 followed by Moore (539) and Wesco (497). The next closest were Stellato (314), Turner (297) and Randall (243). Clemson has touted its receivers will come in "waves of terror," but will it really be that way? Williams, Wesco and Moore are the presumptive starters if healthy, but how often will the Tigers insert Brown, Turner and Smith in games? How much of an impact will Clemson football transfers have? Clemson added three transfer players in the winter cycle: Smith, defensive end Will Heldt and linebacker Jeremiah Alexander. These additions are more than what they have taken in the previous six years of the portal's existence (two). Swinney faced criticism last season after Clemson was one of four FBS schools (Navy, Army, Air Force) to not add a transfer. He added three to fill roster needs, but will these transfers have an immediate impact? Heldt, the top addition, is projected to start at defensive end after recording five sacks in 2024, but can he live up to expectations opposite of star edge rusher T.J. Parker? Smith, an FCS transfer, shined in Clemson's spring game, but the Tigers are loaded at receiver. Then, there's Alexander, who is competing for No. 3 linebacker reps behind Wade Woodaz and Sammy Brown. Clemson football is overwhelming pick to repeat as ACC champion in preseason media poll

CLEMSON — Clemson football was picked to win the ACC in the preseason media poll, according to a release from the conference July 30. The Tigers received 3,083 points and secured 167 first-place votes. It was Clemson's eighth time in the last 10 years being picked to win the conference in the ACC preseason poll; the Tigers were not picked to win the league in 2017 and 2024. Miami (7), FSU (4), SMU (2), Georgia Tech (2) and Virginia Tech (1) also received first-place votes. Clemson was not favored to win the ACC last season but won the ACC championship for the eighth time in the last 10 years. The Tigers are a popular pick to repeat as ACC champions because they are returning various experienced and talented players, including quarterback Cade Klubnik, wide receiver Antonio Williams, defensive end T.J. Parker and defensive tackle Peter Woods. The last time Clemson was picked to win the conference was in 2023 when the Tigers finished 9-4 (their fewest wins since 2010). Clemson's 2025 schedule features home games against LSU, SMU and Florida State and road matchups against Louisville, North Carolina and South Carolina. The media poll was conducted by a vote from a media panel, including all credentialed media members at ACC kickoff. This is the second season of the ACC doing away with divisions with the inclusion of Stanford, SMU and Cal being in the conference. The preseason All-ACC team and Player of the Year will be released July 31. Clemson begins preseason practices July 31, too, before opening the 2025 season against LSU on Aug. 30 (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC) at Memorial Stadium. SUPERLATIVES: Predicting ACC football's best, most surprising and most disappointing teams in 2025 season Here's the predicted order of finish, as voted on by ACC media: 2025 ACC football preseason poll 1.
