'I was at Rod Stewart's Glasto set - there was something special you didn't see'

Daily Mirror14 hours ago

It was a family affair for Sir Rod Stewart as he returning to Glastonbury for the first time in over two decades.
The crowd was packed with fans of all ages - with youngsters watching him power through a 90 minute set with their parents. There was no generation not represented amongst the thousands out in force for his performance.
The Maggie May rocker, 80, pulled out all the stops as he headlined the Pyramid Stage for the Sunday Legends Slot - as the crowd lapped up his classics with special guests Ronnie Wood, Lulu and Mick Hucknull.
But the real stars of the show were Rod's family, who mingled with fans and supported the legendary singer ahead of his big day.

Just hours before Rod took to the stage, his wife Penny Lancaster put on quite the show herself as she mingled with his fans in the VIP bar.
The Loose Women star - and Rod's older sons, dressed in his trademark leopard print - looked every inch the proud family as they laughed and joked with people excited to see their loved one's big moment.
Taking selfies with hardcore fans braving the heat to don Rod wigs and leopard print leggings, Penny was in good spirits as she caught up with pals before watching her husband's show.
But Penny's work to ensure Rod's set went smoothly started way before today. Speaking to the Mirror ahead of the show, an insider revealed how Rod went to military-like lengths to ensure all went to plan.
Already super-fit from swimming lengths in his pool four times a week, the star has been on a period of vocal rest to ensure his raspy voice is firing on all cylinders.

Says our mole: 'It's been quite hard as Rod is a chatterbox, but he knows he needs to preserve what's his biggest weapon…his voice. Rehearsals have been taking part this week with his whole band at a secret location with Penny a constant presence.'
It seemed Rod wanted to give back to Penny while on the Pyramid Stage as he gave a touching nod to his supportive wife. Near the start of his show, he threw in the classic First Cut Is The Deepest.
The tune by Cat Stephens was initially recorded by Rod in 1976. And he superbly entertained the crowd with it was again. But for eagle-eyed fans, it appeared as though he gave a sweet nod towards his wife of 18 years, Penny.
While singing the line: "I still want you by my side," Rod pointed off stage and gave a wry smile.
Rod couldn't have asked for better PR from his wife. If she is any representation of how he treats his followers, they're a very lucky fan base. READ MORE: How to see Glastonbury acts live this year after festival comes to an end

Rod Stewart's Glastonbury performance from overheating to missing act

Sir Rod played at the Somerset festival on Sunday afternoon. Sir Rod Stewart performed at Glastonbury Festival yesterday afternoon and certainly put on a show during the Legends slot as he welcomed various different guests on stage. Mick Hucknall, Ronnie Wood and Lulu joined him for an exciting set which included some of his biggest songs such as Maggie May, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy and Sailing - whilst he also belted out other hits like Love Train. During his set, there was a poignantly staged homage to the late Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie. Christine, who passed away in November 2022, was honoured at Glastonbury with her image displayed on the big screen to the admiration of festival-goers. ‌ Fans were densely packed for Sir Rod's set, eagerly absorbing the 80 year old's energetic show, as staff handed out water to keep the audience hydrated amidst the blistering heat at the festival. ‌ Yet, even a star-studded live show like this wasn't exempt from complications. The Mirror takes a look at the intricacies of Rod Stewart's ninety-minute performance and elaborates on how he managed when the heat of Worthy Farm became a challenge... Overheating Due to the sweltering conditions, Rod had to make a temporary exit from the stage not once but twice throughout his extended set, needing to switch up his attire as the temperature soared. Originally wearing a jacket and long-sleeved white shirt, Sir Rod eventually emerged back on stage brandishing a striking pink suit, remarking to fans: "The girls are going to do a song for you while a change my shirt." His band then launched into a spirited cover of 'Lady Marmalade'. Rod's band stepped in to perform another song as he vanished without warning to change into a vibrant green suit for the second time. ‌ Missing guest Lulu, one of Rod's guests during the afternoon performance, had a slightly awkward entrance on stage. After Rod introduced Ronnie Wood and then Lulu, Ronnie promptly made his way on stage, but Lulu was nowhere in sight. Rod paused and announced 'oh Lulu is coming on in a bit' while Ronnie picked up his guitar and played for the massive Glastonbury audience. Lulu later made her appearance, performing Hot Legs with Rod in her dazzling white suit. ‌ Song blunder During one of his most renowned songs, Maggie May, Rod seemed to fumble his introduction. Despite appearing to start singing prematurely, it certainly didn't deter fans from joining in. The song prompted the largest singalong of the set from the enormous crowd, which was filled to capacity as Rod dominated the iconic Pyramid Stage for ninety minutes. ‌ Late finish Rod must have been having such a good time that he ended his set a few minutes late. Amidst the costume changes and celebrity guests, Rod concluded his performance about five minutes behind schedule. "We have got to get off the stage soon, we are done," he informed the audience before performing the hit track Sailing. He also expressed gratitude to all his celebrity guests for their contribution to his show, which was warmly received by fans. One thing's for sure, the 80-year-old rocker certainly knows how to put on a show. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Danny Jones shares first photo of wife Georgia since he kissed Maura Higgins

Danny Jones proved his marriage to Georgia Horsley is getting back on track as he shared the first photo of his wife since THAT Maura Higgins kiss Danny Jones has shared the first photo of his wife Georgia Horsley since his kiss with his I'm A Celeb co-star Maura Higgins came to light. The couple are working on rebuilding their nine-year marriage after McFly star Danny, 39, shares a drunken snog with 34-year-old Maura during a wild night out partying at this year's Brit Awards in February. ‌ Since then, he and Georgia, 38, have avoided sharing snaps of each other on social media - and Georgia briefly moved out of their family home to get some space, though she has since returned. ‌ But it looks like things are finally looking up for the couple after Georgia was seen in a pic Danny shared to Instagram on Sunday. The summer snap showed their seven-year-old son Cooper running around the garden next to a paddling pool. Georgia's arm was seen in the photo showing she was there too and they are clearly getting in some much needed family time. Danny shared the photo - taken by a pal - to his Instagram stories, which was captioned: 'A weekend well spent.' Putting on a united front, Georgia shared the same snap to her own Instagram stories. It comes two weeks after the former Miss England broke her own social media silence where Danny was concerned by paying tribute to her husband on Father's Day. Sharing a snap with her own dad first, Georgia shared a sweet snap of son Cooper hugging dad Danny. She cutely captioned the post: "For the Dads. Happy Father's Day." That marked the first time Danny has appeared on Georgia's grid since the Maura kiss scandal, which saw him issue a grovelling public apology to his wife. ‌ In a statement, Danny said: "Hello everyone, sorry it's taken me a while to post this but I've taken some time out to be with those closest to me. I want to deeply apologise to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much and we'll continue to deal with this privately." He added to fans: "I love you guys, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. See you all soon, Danny." After the Maura kiss came to light, Georgia temporarily moved out of their family home. And insiders claimed that the entire ordeal has been "embarrassing" for the mother-of-one, who tied the knot with Danny in 2014. Back in March, a source claimed that while "they may still be married, they are not together and she is still working out what she wants to do." But it's thought Georgia is now back living in the family home in West London and has returned to host her podcast, Mum's The Word! with pal Kelsey Parker. A source told the Mirror in April: "Georgia is returning to face the music after weeks away. She took some time for herself after the incident blew up, but now she's ready to talk." While Danny has always wanted to sort things out. "He has made it clear he will do anything to make it work. He loves Georgia and wants their marriage to get back on track," a source told The Sun.
