KL cop killed while tailing street racer during Ops Samseng Jalanan along Jalan Tun Razak
KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — A traffic police officer was killed in an accident while on duty during an anti-street racing operation in Kuala Lumpur early this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said Lance Corporal Muhammad Amirul Aiman Muhammad Othman, 24, died in the incident at about 4.40am.
'He was involved in an accident while carrying out Phase Two of Ops Samseng Jalanan, which started at midnight,' he told Utusan Malaysia.
'At the time, he and another officer were following a motorcyclist who had been performing illegal stunts. They were tailing the rider, not in pursuit.
'As they approached the slip road from Jalan Tun Razak to Jalan Kuching, the officer lost control — likely due to the wet road conditions — and crashed.'
Zamzuri said the officer fell to the left side of the road, and the second officer, who was about 10 seconds behind, also lost control and fell.
Amirul was believed to have died at the scene, while the other officer sustained minor injuries.
He had served with JSPT Kuala Lumpur since completing his training about four years ago and had been assigned to the Intelligence and Operations Division for the past year.
He is survived by his wife and three children, and will be laid to rest in his hometown in Terengganu today.

KUALA LUMPUR : Telegram failed to comply with many of the requests made by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to remove harmful content on the platform, says communications minister Fahmi Fadzil. Among all social media platforms, he said, Telegram has the lowest rate of compliance – less than 50% – to MCMC's requests to remove content. 'I have ordered MCMC to call Telegram for a meeting next week to discuss the issue,' he told reporters following an event at Pantai Dalam this morning. On June 19, MCMC filed a civil suit against Telegram and two of its channels for allegedly spreading harmful content that could erode trust in public institutions and threaten social order. MCMC said the two channels – 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' – were found to have published content that violated provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA). 'This marks the first such action taken against a social media platform provider, particularly since Telegram holds an application service provider (class) licence. 'The move follows Telegram's serious failure to address content that has been repeatedly reported to it, despite multiple negotiation and cooperation efforts by MCMC,' it said. Fahmi said that as of June 24, MCMC had flagged 1,188,528 pieces of harmful content across various social media platforms. However, only 173,642 of those requests were complied with. 'Of this number, 51% of the content removed were online gambling ads, while 24% were online scams. 'We will take strict action to ensure Malaysians do not become victims of cybercrime,' he said. He said MCMC can only make requests, but the platforms themselves have to do what is necessary to ensure the content cannot be accessed in the country.

Too early to tell: Perak forensics narrow probe into Hutan Melintang fire that gutted 23 homes, shops, and house of worship
BAGAN DATUK, June 28 — The Perak Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the village chief's office have conducted an immediate census to provide aid to the victims of the Hutan Melintang fire. District Disaster Management Committee chairman Nazrul Fazami Mohamad said that relevant departments and agencies have been mobilised to conduct a quick census of the affected victims. 'JKM and the village chief's office have begun the census to complete the documentation procedures in a timely manner. 'We have also requested all victims to lodge police reports so that state-level disaster aid can be channelled through the Bagan Datuk District and Land Office,' he said when visiting the victims and the incident site today. In the 4.30 am incident, 23 properties in Bagan Pasir Laut near here were razed. This included 19 Class B and C houses, each approximately 92.9 square metres in size, a non-Muslim house of worship, two eateries, and a sundry shop. No casualties were reported. Nazrul Fazami said that no relief centre (PPS) has been opened, as all victims are reportedly staying with their relatives nearby. 'A meeting with representatives of the residents found that all victims currently have temporary shelter, so there is no need to open a PPS at this time. 'However, further discussions will be held from time to time to assess the need to open a PPS should the situation arise,' he said. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said it was still too early to determine the cause of the fire. He said JBPM's forensic team is still investigating to determine the actual cause of the incident. 'Based on initial information from witnesses at the scene, the fire is believed to have originated in one of the houses at the back row of the affected premises. 'As a result, the scope of the investigation has been narrowed, and focus will be placed on that house to identify the exact cause of the fire,' he said. — Bernama

This follows earlier action in the United Kingdom and Malaysia involving several high-profile assets tied to the former finance minister and his proxies, New Straits Times reported this evening. Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper listed the five countries as the United States, Singapore, Japan, Italy and the Crown Dependency of Jersey, an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy, France. The assets in question were allegedly not declared to the MACC during its investigation. 'Other nations where assets are allegedly being held will also face similar action,' one unnamed source was quoted as saying.
