Thrissur: Union MoS Suresh Gopi meets Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko in hospital
Malayalam actor Chacko was admitted to the hospital after he met with a road accident in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Chacko and his family were in a car accident, in which the actor lost his father.
South India International Movies Awards (SIIMA) took to X and extended condolences to Chacko and his family.
SIIMA wrote, 'Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was injured in a tragic car accident near Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. The accident claimed the life of his father, CP Chacko, who died on the spot. The family was en route to Bengaluru when their car collided with a stationary lorry. Shine, along with his mother, brother, and driver, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. SIIMA extends its heartfelt condolences to Shine Tom Chacko and his family during this time of grief.'
Chacko was recently arrested in a narcotics case and was later released on bail. Malayalam actors Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi appeared before excise officials in Alappuzha in April, as part of an ongoing investigation into the seizure of hybrid ganja worth approximately Rs 2 crore earlier that month.
The drugs were discovered in the possession of a woman, who allegedly told the excise authorities that she had consumed drugs alongside both Chacko and Bhasi. Based on her statement, the excise department issued notices to the actors, prompting their appearance for questioning.
Chacko has previously also faced allegations of drug use and misconduct. On April 22, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) issued a final warning to the actor, urging him to refrain from any further drug use or disruptive behaviour on film sets. (ANI)

'Kannappa' box office collections day 8: Film slows down; mints only Rs 30.55 cr
Vishnu Manchu's big-budget mythological drama 'Kannappa' kicked off with a strong opening, but the film's performance has slowed considerably in its second week. According to early estimates by the Sacnilk website, it earned around Rs 35 lakhs on its eighth day, pushing the total to Rs 30.55 crore across languages. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bright opening, but numbers fall steeply Released with much fanfare, 'Kannappa' opened to Rs 9.35 crore on Day 1, thanks in large part to its Telugu audience. The first weekend was encouraging, with the film raking in over Rs 23 crore by Sunday. Kannappa - Official Hindi Trailer Monday's collections dropped to Rs 2.3 crore, and the numbers continued to slide through the week. By Thursday, daily earnings hovered at Rs 1.35 crore. Audience turnout dips across languages The drop wasn't just in numbers, as it was visible in theatre occupancy too. In the Telugu-speaking regions, occupancy on Friday averaged just under 17%. In Hindi belts, the response was even more subdued, staying around 10%. Evening and night shows did see a slight bump, which is not enough to affect the day's overall take significantly. Crucial weekend ahead The film's second weekend will likely determine how long it can stay afloat. While the mythological theme had its appeal, and the star cast brought attention, the story now needs strong word-of-mouth to carry it forward. With newer films arriving and audience interest shifting, 'Kannappa' has its task cut out if it hopes to stay in the game. Our verdict ETimes gave the movie a rating of 3 stars out if 5 and our review reads, "Watch it if you enjoy sacred stories with strong visual storytelling and emotional payoff. Kannappa ends on a powerful note that resonates with devotees and admirers of culturally rooted cinema." The movie is overall getting mixed reviews from the audiences which may affect it's long run in theatres.

Lajpat Nagar double murder: No police verification done when accused was hired, say cops
Two days after a garment shop staffer allegedly killed his employer and her 14-year-old son at their Lajpat Nagar residence, enraged over being reprimanded on Tuesday morning for skipping work, police on Friday said the accused, Mukesh Paswan, did not go through the police verification process when he started his job. 'None of the four employees working at the victim's shop had undergone police verification when they were hired,' DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. Mukesh worked as a driver and a helper at the shop in Lajpat Nagar market. The police had found Ruchika Sewani (42) and her son Krish (14), a Class X student, dead when they broke open the main door of the house Wednesday night. Police had found Ruchika's body in the bedroom. As officers followed a trail of bloodstains, they found the boy's body inside the bathroom. There were injuries on their neck, which prima facie appeared to have been inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon. An officer said that during questioning, Mukesh claimed that Krish was alive when he left the scene of the crime and that he left him on the floor of his room. 'It is possible that the 14-year-old crawled to the bathroom of his room in a desperate attempt to save his life and tried to get water… but eventually succumbed to his injuries,' the officer added. The officer further said that Mukesh brought the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, from his own home. 'After killing Ruchika, he slit the throat of the boy in his own room to eliminate witnesses.' According to the police, Mukesh had taken an advance of Rs 45,000 from Ruchika and two mobile phones while going on leave. He, however, did not return to work on time. 'Ruchika had asked Mukesh to return the advance payment of Rs 45,000 and the two phones she gave him and leave the job if he couldn't get his act together,' said the officer. Mukesh, who lived at Amar Colony with his two brothers and father, had attempted to flee to his village in Bihar by boarding the Magadh Express from New Delhi railway station early Thursday. He was traced by the Uttar Pradesh Police, which boarded the train at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction and arrested him.
