MapleStory Universe Expands Infinite IP Playground Vision with Developer Tools and Legacy IP Expansion
MapleStory Universe (MSU), the blockchain-powered expansion of Nexon's game IP, today announced a series of new developments that bring to life its Infinite IP Playground (IIPP) vision through Meta play. These include the roll out of new developer infrastructure, the first of its enhancement API, and the reveal of the next Nexon IP to onboard into the ecosystem.
MSU's Infinite IP Playground in Action
The IIPP vision has always been about expanding the boundaries of play, from locked-in gameplay loops to open-ended systems where players and builders can co-create experiences. With recent developments, users and the community alike can get a glimpse into what this future looks like: with a focus on infrastructure, builder momentum and cross-IP scalability.
'The Infinite IP Playground isn't just an idea, it's becoming an ecosystem,' said Sunyoung Hwang, CEO of NEXPACE. 'From game logic APIs to builder tools, from new IPs to open infrastructure, MSU is laying the groundwork for a gaming model where creativity, ownership, and community are core.'
Ecosystem Expansion: APIs, Builders and Infrastructure
As part of its infrastructure expansion, MSU has activated its first gameplay logic API focused on item enhancement, a familiar progression mechanic from MapleStory. Going live on 29 July, Smithy will be the first prototype of Meta play Services to complete and test the enhancement API in a live environment, laying the foundation for more flexible, community-driven possibilities.
Smithy also opens the door for future builders to create services using that same enhancement logic, from strategic tools to creating entirely new user experiences. This is the first step in a broader plan to open up other core gameplay pillars through APIs within the upcoming Builder Center, allowing builders to explore, expand and innovate beyond MapleStory's original boundaries.
Leveraging on Builder Ecosystem Momentum
Since opening its API access, more than 50 independent teams have started building within the MSU ecosystem, including dashboards, guild tools, prediction apps, and marketplace services. Some of these builders' work has already gone live, providing data-driven support and analysis to players. To further support this builder momentum, MSU is rolling out the following infrastructure upgrades:
Builder Center: A new portal for developers onboarding, API integration, and modular on/off-chain tools. (Q4 2025)
Permissionless Chain: A blockchain layer open to any builder to deploy smart contracts and dApps within the MSU ecosystem
Chainlink CCIP integration: Enabling secure cross-chain interactions to expand user experience by supporting seamless use of digital items across different chains
MSU has also confirmed the creation of an ecosystem fund to support early-stage projects aligned with the Infinite IP Playground vision. It will support initiatives across Meta play, SocialFi, AI-enhanced gameplay, and community tooling.
New IP will Join the Nexpace's Ecosystem
Building on the foundation laid by MapleStory Universe, another one of Nexon's iconic game franchises will be the next IP to integrate into the ecosystem, introducing new gameplay formats and creator possibilities.
While details will be shared progressively, this signals NEXPACE's commitment to supporting diverse Nexon IP experiences as a multi-IP platform, built not just for one title but for a future where legacy franchises evolve through community-driven innovation.
Looking ahead, these developments will be part of MSU's broader 2025 roadmap:
August: Launch of ecosystem support policies and additional API enhancements
September–November: Rollout of third-party Synergy Apps and services onboard
December: Launch of a new Builder Center, expansion of the API suite and MapleStory N Winter Update
'These updates mark a turning point for MapleStory Universe,' added Sunyoung Hwang, CEO of NEXPACE. 'We're not just adding tools or onboarding new IPs, we're building the foundations of a platform where players and builders can shape the future of web3 gaming worlds together.'

Ashley Judd's We Don't Care Message Inspires Women
Actor and activist Ashley Judd shared a powerful message about being a woman of a certain age and why she supports the "I don't care" mindset. Ashley, who starred in some of my favorite movies from the '90s thrillers like Heat (1995), A Time to Kill (1996), and Double Jeopardy (1999), posted a playfully encouraging video in the Baltic Sea about how she's kicking people's opinions to the wayside. "When I'm in my swimsuit, sometimes I get a little chafing, right down there, so I put on constatrch," she said in a July 22 Instagram post. "And then there's like a white thing there, and if you see it, I don't care." Ashley cited the "We Don't Care" club, a trend that includes hundreds of thousands of women around the world in perimenopause and menopause sharing what they no longer care about, which was founded by influencer Melani Sanders. Melani is a 45-year-old mother of three and social media influencer who celebrates women of a certain age by sharing videos explaining what she no longer cares about and invites other women to join her. The She Said actor explained how her inner child is also part of the "Make Stuff Up" club. "And I have a jellyfish, it's the non-stinging kind, and I think the central nervous system is that part, and that may not be right, and I don't care," she added, picking up an actual jellyfish. "Because there's another club that my inner child belongs to and it's called the MSU club." "I'm also picking my crotch, and I don't care. The MSU club is the 'Make Stuff Up' club. And that's for inner children. As a post menopausal woman, I don't care if you don't like the MSU club for inner children," she continued. Ashley did playful "tricks" in the water and expressed the importance of embracing our child-like behavior and wonder. "Because when we were little, it was really fun, and we don't care what people think of us." In the caption alongside the video, Ashley urged people to join her in this empowering movement. "If you let yourself be free, how would your True Self & Inner Child spend your Carefree Timelessness?" she wrote. "How can you let go of what others expect, think, need, want? What do YOU feel, need, want, from yourself?" In a world inundated with negativity, violence, and judgment, Ashley provided a necessary reminder that we can "let go of caring about stupid, controlling norms" and to "bask in the the unselfconscious being-ness" of our true selves. Responding to Ashley's message, one fan wrote, "Women are healing ourselves—in all the ways we feel intuitively called. And we don't give AF what the world thinks about it. Keep on keepin' sister Ashley." "I❤️you Ashley! You are the best! Absolutely! So over worrying about all the gazes-the male gaze, the female gaze, the mother's/grandma's/judgemental auntie/HOA Karen/Chad, the total stranger gaze. The only gaze that matters is OURS!" another wrote. Someone else wrote, "Ohhh Ashley , I dream of having friends like you ! Society is so critical and judgemental , particularly toward aging and appearance. You are a joy to behold ❤️🥰👏 Please continue to share posts like this .Love you lots ❤️💯🥂." To learn more about the "We Don't Care" club, check out this insightful piece on Melani Sanders and the women of the trend. Now let's answer Ashley's question: "If you let yourself be free, how would your True Self & Inner Child spend your Carefree Timelessness?" Share your responses in the comments.

The First Descendant Breakthrough Demo Out Now On All Platforms
The First Descendent Today, the demo for the big new Breakthrough update went live for The First Descendant across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. NEXON will keep the demo live until August 6 and gives players a sneak peek at what's coming in the new update. You can pre-register for the upcoming content drop through August 7 (when the full update launches) to claim some exclusive rewards and bonuses. Players that finish the demo before the update is out will receive their own bonus rewards as well, including a Spoils Box and a Crystallization Catalyst, in addition to titles and paint styles if you participate in the First Look Demo Event of the new region, Axion Plains. The First Descendant—Breakthrough For those unaware, The First Descendant is one of the more prominent and reasonably popular free-to-play live service looter-shooters on the market from the past couple of years. You'll complete missions, team up with folks, shoot a bunch of bad guys, and collect a ton of gear and upgrade materials, then do it all again for dozens or hundreds of hours. The Breakthrough update sounds like it should be a pretty massive addition to the game, as it includes tons of content like the new Axion Plains field, the new hover bike vehicle, a Colossus Field raid event, a new Descendent, and even a Nier: Automata crossover. I haven't played The First Descendant actively in a long time myself, but I did give it a go for a few weeks when it first launched and the gameplay loop is really strong. I just typically prefer my games with swords and magic rather than sci-fi guns and bullets. Typically. I did really like what I played, though, and probably would have stuck around longer if I'd had a few friends to check it out with. But when you're a 30-something married guy with kids who rarely plays games just for fun anymore, that's often a hard hill to climb. If you're eagerly anticipating the big new content drop coming soon for The First Descendant, this demo is an awesome way to satiate that appetite ever-so-slightly over the next few weeks. For more details check out the game's official Discord or official website.
