LSU football projected to miss on top tight end recruiting target, losing to SEC power

USA Todaya day ago
LSU football is projected to miss on a top tight end recruiting target, according to Rivals' Chad Simmons. In a prediction dropped earlier this week, Simmins has four-star tight end Brayden Fogle committing to Georgia over LSU and Penn State.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Fogle is the No. 10-ranked tight end in the 2026 recruiting class. 247Sports is the highest on Fogle, slotting the Ohio prospect as the No. 132-ranked recruit in the country.
Fogle is one of the top tight ends left on the board, and if Georgia continues to trend as the favorite, it leaves LSU with recruiting questions at the tight end position. LSU only signed one player at the position last year and would likely need to turn its attention towards flip candidates.
Fogle is slated to announce his commitment on July 4.
Ahead of Fogle's announcement, LSU's 2026 class ranks No. 5 nationally, per Rivals.
Even if LSU misses on Fogle, the Tigers are sitting pretty in the pass-catching department. LSU's 2026 wide receiver crop is the best in the country, headlined by five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys.

Michigan football boosts 2026 class with 4-star WR Travis Johnson from Virginia

Michigan football recruiting is red hot, and the Wolverines have shown little sign of slowing down -- only in the way that the class is filling up. The maize and blue already have two wide receivers committed in Dallas (Tx.) Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile and Mansfield (Tx.) four-star Zion Robinson. But the Wolverines are looking to add at least one more, if not two. While top target Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star Calvin Russell will make his decision on Saturday evening, another that Michigan football has been after for some time decides on Independence Day in Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wideout Travis Johnson. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Johnson has offers from the likes of Penn State, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, and others. But on Friday, he committed to the Wolverines. Scouting report and highlights Here's the scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins: Well-rounded wide receiver with the size, speed and focus to emerge as a trusted option at the Power Four level. Height and bounce suggest that he's destined to play on the outside, but is sudden and quick enough to win from an interior alignment with his slick route running. Attacks cushion with good surge off the line and can reach a top gear before changing course with full-tilt cuts. Might not be a true power forward at the catch point, but can play above shoulder pads with his timing and body control. Will shed a tackle or two with the ball in his hands and has surprising agility in tight quarters for someone of his stature. Missed time as a junior due to injury, but still finished the season with over 1,000 receiving yards before turning heads at the OT7 Finals summer before senior year. Rather narrow in the shoulders for a pass catcher that's verified at over 6-foot-3, but projects as a potential impact player on Saturdays that will work for his quarterbacks. Mature game could have him in the lineup sooner rather than later. And here are his junior highlights: The currently committed class Here is what the 2026 class looks like now that Johnson is in the fold: All rankings by the 247Sports Composite With Johnson in the fold, Michigan football moves back up to No. 7 from No. 9, surpassing Clemson and Miami, while being behind USC, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Alabama in the 247Sports team rankings.

Every LSU baseball player who entered the portal in summer transfer window

The baseball transfer portal window is closed. Players already in the portal will continue to search for new homes but don't expect many more names to enter the portal until the next window in August. Coming off a College World Series and national championship, LSU didn't take many hits. In total, nine LSU baseball players entered the transfer portal, but LSU held on to the core. That's what you expect a program of LSU's caliber to do. It's rare to see a player leave LSU unless they're turning pro or searching for playing time. LSU has one of the nation's most talented rosters and it's hard to find work for everyone. That's a guy like Sam Dutton, who was buried on LSU's bullpen depth chart, and ended up as Auburn's ace. Paxton Kling struggled to crack the lineup at LSU but was a key piece of Penn State's 2025 squad. Here's a look at the nine LSU baseball players who entered the transfer portal. Ashton Larson Larson was the most recent Tiger to enter the portal. In two seasons with the Tigers, Larson hit .289 with a .439 slugging. Larson appeared in 87 games, notching five homers and scoring 32 runs. Kade Woods Woods began his career at Alabama in 2023 before transferring to LSU for the 2024 season. Now, he's back in the portal for a second time. Woods pitched just one inning in 2025, allowing two hits and four earned runs. Chandler Dorsey Dorsey spent one season at LSU after spending the first two years of his career at South Florida. Like Woods, he's in the portal for a second time. Dorsey pitched five innings in 2025, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Blaise Preister Blaise Presitet was a JUCO transfer who joined LSU ahead of the 2025 season, but he spent just one year in Baton Rouge before entering the portal. Preister played in seven games without notching a hit. Ryan Costello Costello joined LSU as a highly touted freshman in the class of 2024, but didn't crack the lineup in Baton Rouge. In 13 plate appearances, Costello walked four times with an RBI. He did not record a hit. David Hogg Hogg was another highly-regarded freshman who didn't see much time in Baton Rouge. After one year with the Tigers, he transferred to Kansas. Dylan Thompson Thompson was a redshirt freshman in 2025. He signed with LSU in 2023, ranked as the No. 11 overall recruit in Louisiana. Thompson didn't carve out a role in Baton Rouge, only tossing one-third of an inning. Mic Paul Paul entered the transfer portal but opted to remain with LSU through the College World Series title. In two seasons with LSU, Paul hit .176 with five walks. He appeared in 37 games and scored 11 runs. Mikey Ryan Ryan signed with LSU in 2024 as the No. 113-ranked recruit, but only appeared in 16 games with five plate appearances.
