Jogulamba Gadwal police
on Thursday arrested eight people, including a newly-wed woman and her lover, in connection with the abduction and murder of 32-year-old land surveyor Ganta Tejeshwar on June 17.
According to police, the murder was masterminded by V Tirumala Rao, 35, a manager at
Can Fin Homes Ltd
in Kurnool, and his lover Sahasra, also known as Aishwarya, 23, who was Tejeshwar's wife. The duo enlisted a gang by offering cash and other incentives to carry out the crime.
All eight accused have been remanded to judicial custody, while police plan to seek further custody for crime scene reconstruction and recovery of evidence.
How did they carry out the murder
Tirumala Rao was in an illicit relationship with Aishwarya. After her family arranged her marriage to Tejeshwar in December 2024, Aishwarya and Tirumala Rao conspired to eliminate him. To execute the plan, Rao promised cash and quick bank deals to two men, Nagesh and Parashuramudu, who then roped in a third accomplice, Raju.

The trio approached Tejeshwar pretending to be land buyers and even planted a GPS tracker on his bike to monitor his movements. On June 17, they picked him up near Krishna Reddy Bungalow in a rented car and took him to a remote location near Erravalli, where they slit his throat and strangled him. His body was later dumped in a canal near Panyam Ghat Road in Nandyal, and his mobile phones were discarded in the Krishna river.
Tirumala Rao paid the gang Rs 3.5 lakh and helped coordinate the disposal of evidence. Although Aishwarya's mother Sujatha was aware of the plot, she did not participate. Rao's father, Tirupataiah, assisted him in evading arrest. Police have seized the rental car used in the crime, while two other vehicles are yet to be recovered.
The accused include: Tirumala Rao, Aishwarya, three contract killers - K Nagesh, 33, Ch Parashuramudu, 30, and Ch Raju, 25 - Tirumala Rao's father Tirupataiah, 64, a retired APSP cop, Aishwarya's mother Sujatha, 50, and A Mohan, 30, a mason from Jammiched village who tracked Tejeshwar's movements.
Gadwal SP T Srinivasa Rao said Tirumala Rao and the three killers were caught at the Pulluru inter-state toll plaza during a vehicle check around 5am on Thursday. Their confession led to the arrest of the others from Kurnool and Gadwal.

ED seizes incriminating docs in raids across 13 places in Delhi-NCR, Punjab under PMLA

New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized several incriminating documents, digital devices, and details of movable and immovable properties during searches conducted at 13 locations in Delhi, NCR and Punjab's Mohali in an ongoing investigation against Raheja Developers Ltd , its Directors, and others, the agency said on Tuesday. The raids were conducted on June 27 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The federal agency initiated an investigation on the basis of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) registered by Delhi's Economic Offences Wing under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, against Raheja Developers Ltd., its Managing Director Naveen Raheja, and others. 'The FIRs allege that substantial sums were fraudulently collected from investors and homebuyers by Raheja Developers Ltd on the promise of delivering residential flats in various group housing projects but failed to hand over the promised flats,' said the ED in a statement. Meanwhile, ED has attached immovable properties worth Rs 28.36 crore located at Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Amritsar and Greater Noida in a more than Rs 950 crore bank fraud case linking Sunstar Overseas Ltd, the agency said on Friday. ED's Gurugram Zonal Office attached the properties under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The federal agency initiated investigation based on the First Information Report (FIR) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chandigarh registered against Sunstar SOL, its ex-directors-- Rohit Aggarwal, Rakesh Aggarwal, Naresh Aggarwal, Sumit Aggarwal-- and others under various sections of Indian Penal Code, 1860 for 'committing fraud, criminal misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, cheating and causing wrongful loss of more than Rs 950 crore, to a consortium of nine lender banks lead by Karur Vyasya Bank. ED said its investigation revealed that ex-directors and promoters of SOL laundered the loan amounts availed by the firm through a web of related and controlled beneficially owned entities, a shell entity and a dummy entity. 'Investigation also revealed that ex-directors and promoters of SOL regained actual and indirect control by misusing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) proceedings of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT),' said the ED in a statement. Delhi Police seizes 15-year-old petrol, 10-year-old diesel vehicles from petrol pump under scrappage rules

New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Tuesday seized two end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), a 15-year-old petrol bike and a 10-year-old diesel bike, from a petrol pump in the city, as part of its ongoing enforcement of scrappage rules for outdated vehicles. Traffic officials confirmed that both motorcycles were found operating in violation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines, which prohibit the use of petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years in the national capital. While speaking to ANI, Ashok Kumar, Traffic Inspector, said, 'Two motorcycles have been seized from here. As per guidelines, we will hand over to the registered vehicle scrapper. After that, the owner of the vehicle will be given the scrap value as per norms.' Meanwhile, a separate development, petrol pumps across the national capital posted notices warning against fueling End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) were seen pasted on display boards. The warning stated that 'fuel will not be dispensed to end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) - 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles from July 1, 2025.' Along with these notices, CCTV cameras and speakers were also installed at several fuel stations to monitor compliance and inform customers. On June 24, Delhi's fuel ban on diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years from July 1st, 2025, is likely to deliver Rs 4.5 Lakh Crore of gain to auto companies, auto importers, and government tax collections, according to a recent report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). 'If 1.8 million old vehicles are replaced by new cars with an average price of Rs 15 lakhs each, the total turnover for the auto industry would amount to Rs 2.7 lakh crore,' GTRI said. The report further adds that, with this replacement of old vehicles with the new ones, the central government will be able to collect approximately Rs 1,35,000 crore from GST and compensation cess, while the Delhi government would gain around Rs 42,187 crore from road tax and diesel surcharges. GTRI also outlines that, 'Real values will be at least 50 per cent higher as this data ignores the revenue to be collected on account of the replacement of 4.4 million two-wheelers.' On the flip side, this rule of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years will no longer be allowed to refuel at any petrol pump across the capital, will impose harsh costs on small businesses, informal sector workers, and middle-class families who still rely on older vehicles for mobility and livelihoods. Choksi opposes ED's fugitive offender plea, claims constructive custody in Belgium

New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Diamond merchant Mehul Choksi who is key accused in the Rs 13,500 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case, has approached the Special Court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Mumbai, seeking the dismissal of the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) application to declare him a fugitive economic offender (FEO). Through his counsel, Advocate Vijay Aggarwal, Choksi has argued that the legal basis for declaring him a fugitive is fundamentally flawed. He is currently lodged in a Belgian prison following his arrest recently, which was carried out on the basis of a non-bailable warrant issued by an Indian court and under an official extradition request made by the Indian government. Aggarwal contended that Choksi is, therefore, in the 'constructive custody' of Indian authorities. 'How can someone be considered a fugitive when he has been arrested at the behest of India and is in custody due to Indian proceedings?' Aggarwal told ANI. He further explained that under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, a person must meet two conditions: one is leaving India to avoid prosecution, and the second, refusing to return to face legal proceedings. 'In my client's case, neither criterion is fulfilled,' Aggarwal stated. 'He left India for medical treatment in New York with due police clearance from Mumbai, and at that time, no case had been filed against him. So the allegation that he fled to evade prosecution is baseless.' As for his alleged refusal to return, Aggarwal pointed to a Dominican court order from 2021, issued after an alleged abduction attempt on Choksi. The order barred him from leaving Antigua, and significantly, it was passed in the presence of the CBI, effectively making it a restriction imposed with the knowledge of the Indian government. Aggarwal stated that the FEO plea has been pending in the Mumbai court for years without resolution. 'Now that my client has been arrested in Belgium, at India's request, and remains in custody in Antwerp prison in relation to Indian charges, he is effectively under Indian jurisdiction,' he argued. 'Judicial precedents recognise such custody as valid under Indian law. Hence, there's no ground to continue the FEO proceedings.' Simultaneously, Choksi is also fighting legal proceedings in Belgium. In a recent petition filed before the Belgian Court of Appeal--prepared by Advocate Aggarwal and submitted by his local legal team--Choksi has alleged that his arrest violated Belgian legal procedures and fundamental rights. The plea claims that Belgian authorities failed to follow due process, infringing on Choksi's basic legal protections and violating principles of natural justice. He has sought immediate release, citing these procedural lapses. This petition follows the recent rejection of Choksi's bail by a three-judge bench of the Belgian Court of Appeal, which conducted proceedings in Dutch. The court has yet to schedule the next hearing in the matter. (ANI)
