Registrations open for Foskor F21 marathon and ASA championships

PHALABORWA – Anticipation is building after registrations officially open for the much-awaited Foskor F21 Marathon in Phalaborwa, which has been elevated to a new level of prestige by incorporating the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Road Running Championships. This year's event, which will start at 13:30 on Saturday, July 26, promises to be tougher, faster, and more competitive than before. Molatelo Rankweteke of Foskor confirmed the enthusiasm surrounding the event, with many participants having already registered since entries were opened. 'This shows how ready athletes are to compete, especially now that winners of this marathon stand a chance to be selected by ASA to represent South Africa at the World Championships,' said Rankweteke. Registration for the marathon is currently open and costs R250. Participants requiring a temporary licence will need to pay an additional R50. Runners can register either online or in person at the Foskor Community Centre, but with entries limited to 1 500 participants, early registration is highly recommended. The event carries a total prize purse of R462 000, with both the men's and women's winners set to receive R50 000 each. Local running veteran, Doctor Malepe, is among those preparing to take on the challenge once again. 'Having first run the F21 Marathon back in 2004 and finishing 01:25:00 without formal training, Malepe has grown into a seasoned and strategic athlete. I had no experience back then, but I still made it. I thought I would finish in over two hours,' he recalled. Malepe said that he completed last year's marathon in 01:15:58 and is determined to do better this year. 'The upcoming F21 will be tough because it is a championship qualifier,' he said Entries for the event can be done on At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention.
