YSRCP condemns PPP model in medical education, plans protest
Addressing a press conference here on Friday at the YSRCP district office in Kurnool, State student wing spokesperson Katike Gowtham alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is promoting the PPP policy to benefit private players at the expense of deserving students.
He warned that the policy would push medical education further out of reach for economically disadvantaged students, even if they possess the required merit.
In response, the YSRCP student wing announced a statewide protest and will submit a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada on July 7, demanding the rollback of the PPP policy.
Gowtham called upon student leaders and activists to participate in large numbers and stand united against what he described as an 'anti-student' agenda.
The student wing also criticized the recent police action against young medical professionals demanding their Permanent Registration (PR), labeling it as undemocratic and oppressive.
'Qualified medical graduates were subjected to humiliation and manhandled by the police simply for demanding their rights,' said Gowtham. Supporting the cause, Kurnool City student wing president Ansar stated that the government will be held accountable for the injustice meted out to students. Other leaders present at the event included B. Srikanth Reddy, Sridhar from Kodumur constituency, and Tirumalesh.

Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri railway line project: HC issues notice to Centre, H.P. govt. over fissures in houses
The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the Union Ministry of Railways, the State government, and others, seeking their response to a petition that has raised concerns over fissures in houses in some villages of Bilaspur district allegedly caused by ongoing tunnelling work for the Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri railway line project. In its direction on July 2, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia and Justice Ranjan Sharma has asked the respondents to file their reply within four weeks to the Public Interest Litigation plea filed by social activist Rajnish Sharma. A 63-km broad gauge railway line from Bhanupali near Anandpur Sahib in Rupnagar district of Punjab to Beri in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh is being constructed. The petition alleges that unscientific excavation and blasting for the railway project have caused significant damage to homes in Nog, Bamta, and Kallar panchayats in Bilaspur, endangering the lives and livelihoods of villagers, many of whom are from below poverty line (BPL) families. Villagers have reported big cracks in their homes due to the construction of the tunnel, which is located just 10 metres from some residences, the petition stated. The petitioner alleged that authorities have failed to rehabilitate or resettle affected families. He urged the court to direct authorities to immediately halt the tunnelling work, acquire the affected land, and rehabilitate villagers in accordance with Corporate Social Responsibility and Rehabilitation and Resettlement norms. Residents of Badhiyad village in Nog panchayat have been staging a 'chain hunger strike' near the tunnel's entrance since June 1 to raise their concerns. 'This village is right above the tunnel and has posed a serious threat to the houses of about 20-odd families. We are not against the railway line, which is for public benefit, but their homes and lives are at stake,' the petitioner said.

Pak unable to identify Masood Azhar, JeM chief may be present in Afghanistan': Bilawal
New Delhi, July 5 (UNI): Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has claimed that Islamabad is not aware about the whereabouts of UN-designated terrorist Masood Azhar as Pakistan is unable to identify Jaish-e-Mohammed chief. He further asserted that the country would be "happy to" arrest him if India provides information about terrorist's presence on Pakistani soil. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Bhutto, whose party is part of the ruling coalition in the country, said Hafiz Saeed is not a free man in Pakistan and Masood Azhar may be in Afghanistan. Masood Azhar is one of India's most-wanted terrorist, who played a prominent role in the 2001 Parliament attack, 26/11 Mumbai attacks, 2016 Pathankot attack and the 2019 Pulwama attack, among others. Masood Azhar was designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations in 2019 under 1267 UN Sanctions Committee. India has been demanding that Pakistan should hand over Azhar and Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed but Islamabad has been showing its ignorance despite evidence of them being active there. Azhar was released in exchange for the passengers of IC-814 after the Kandahar hijacking in 1999. To a question on a New York Times report stating that Saeed is free, Bhutto said, "That's not accurate. That's factually not correct that Hafiz Saeed is a free man. He is in the custody of the Pakistani state. As far as Masood Azhar is concerned, we have been unable to arrest him or identify him. Given his past within the Afghan jihad context, it is our belief that he is in Afghanistan." India had, several times, requested that Pakistan extradite the 2008 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed for trial in India but Saeed was arrested in July 2019 by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), following 23 first information reports registered against him and his close associates. He was given a combined sentence of 33 years imprisonment in April 2022 by an anti-terrorism court in two cases of terror financing. Saeed has been listed as one of India's most wanted terrorists and carries a USD10 million bounty placed by the US for his alleged involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The attacks, orchestrated on November 26, 2008, over the course of four days, killed as many as 166 people and injured 300. This statement of Bhutto comes after Operation Sindoor was conducted on the night of May 6-7, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. One of the targeted locations was the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) stronghold in Bahawalpur. The operation was a retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 people. The operation involved missile strikes on terror infrastructure, including recruitment and indoctrination centers, as well as launchpads. The strikes were aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and preventing future attacks. Bilawal Bhutto also stated, "If and when the Indian government shares information with us that he is on Pakistani soil, we would be more than happy to arrest him. The fact is, the Indian government is not...". When asked why Pakistan should wait or expect that India should share information involving Azhar, the PPP chief said, "When you have a CT (counterterrorism) cooperation with any country, we provide groups of our concern, they provide groups of their concern. That's how we managed to thwart attacks here in London, thwart attacks in New York, thwart attacks in Pakistan." "As far as Masood Azhar is concerned, if he is in Afghanistan, the West has now handed over to a group that once upon a time they called terrorists, and now they call the people in charge of Afghanistan... It's not possible for Pakistan to go and do what all of NATO was unable to do within Afghanistan. Apprise DMs of guidelines, directions to prepare gang chart : HC to U.P. chief secy
: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has directed the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary to apprise all the district magistrates of the guidelines and directions issued by the high court and the Supreme Court regarding the preparation of a gang chart for the invocation of the Gangsters Act. The court ordered, 'However, in the present case the authority concerned is at liberty to initiate fresh proceedings under the U.P. Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (For representation only) With this direction, the court allowed a petition, quashing the impugned FIR registered under Sections 2(b)(i) and 3 of the U.P. Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, against two petitioners. A vacation division bench of Justice Alok Mathur and Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal passed the order on June 27 on a petition filed by Shabbir Husain and another person seeking directives to quash the FIR lodged against them at Bhira police station in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The court directed, 'A perusal of the gang chart also shows that the District Magistrate, Lakhimpur Kheri has approved the gang chart on 21.03.2025. This fact shows that a training programme conducted by the State Government has no effect on the District Magistrate, Lakhimpur Kheri and even she ignored the guidelines of the State Government dated 02.12.2024 and approved the gang chart in utter violation of the direction issued by the High Court Allahabad as well as Supreme Court. Therefore, Chief Secretary, Govt. of U.P. is directed to look into this issue and shall apprise all the District Magistrates about the guidelines and directions issued by the High Court and Supreme Court regarding preparation of gang chart for invocation of Gangsters Act and if required, a fresh training programme be initiated for the competent authorities under the Gangsters Act.' The court said, 'In the present case, from the perusal of the gang chart, it is clear that while approving the gang chart, the District Magistrate simply mentioned 'discussed with Superintendent of Police and Committee and proposal approved'. 'This is absolutely non-application of mind and also not in consonance with the U.P. Gangster Rules as well as clear violation of judgements of this Court in Sunni Mishra @ Sanjayan Kumar Mishra (supra) and Abdul Lateef @ Mustak Khan (supra) as well as the judgements of Supreme Court in the case of Vinod Bihari Lal (supra) and Lal Mohammad (supra).' The court ordered, 'However, in the present case the authority concerned is at liberty to initiate fresh proceedings under the U.P. Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986 after preparing the gang chart in accordance with the law as mentioned above.' Accordingly, the high court allowed the petition quashing the impugned FIR lodged against the petitioners along with the gang chart.
