Abhishek Bachchan recalls ‘huge fight' with ‘adamant' Aditya Chopra during Dhoom 2: ‘He said no'

Indian Express4 days ago

Actors and filmmakers have often spoken about creative differences with each other. In a recent interaction, Abhishek Bachchan recalled a disagreement he had with filmmaker-producer Aditya Chopra on Dhoom 2, over the song 'Dil Laga Na', which he was pushed into doing. He felt was completely out of character for his role as ACP Jai Dixit — a no-nonsense, serious cop throughout the film.
During an interaction with ETimes, Abhishek admitted that he 'had a huge fight with Aditya Chopra' over the decision to make him dance in the song. He explained that in the scene, his character allows Hrithik Roshan's character, a thief, to enjoy the night because he plans to arrest him the next day. The song 'Dil Laga Na' then begins, and the entire cast breaks into dance. Abhishek felt that since his character was a 'tough-as-nails cop with a no-nonsense attitude,' it didn't make sense for him to suddenly start dancing.
Abhishek shared that he would have preferred to simply sit at the bar where his character and Hrithik's character had their conversation and silently gauge Hrithik's attitude. Abhishek recalled that Aditya Chopra refused his suggestion, saying, 'Adi was adamant. We had a huge fight on it. He said no, the audience wants to see all the cast dance.'
Despite their difference of opinion, Abhishek acknowledged that such creative disagreements are common between filmmakers and actors, and everything was resolved in the end — especially since the film turned out to be a massive success. 'At the end of the day, the film did really well, so you also have to accept that maybe you don't know everything.'
He further admitted that since Dhoom 2 was a commercial film, audiences weren't expected to approach it with deep analysis. 'Dhoom is also not just this character-driven piece. It's a popcorn film. So, I think the justification was there. Don't use your brain too much,' he said.

Abhishek Bachchan Breaks Silence On His Marriage And Separation Rumours With Aishwarya Rai

New Delhi: Abhishek Bachchan has been in the spotlight for his marriage with Aishwarya Rai. For the past year, speculation around their relationship has made headlines, with several reports hinting at trouble in paradise. While they have chosen to remain tight-lipped about the separation rumours, Abhishek recently spoke about how such misinformation took a toll on him and his family. In an interview with Etimes, the actor said, "Previously, things that were said about me didn't affect me. Today, I have a family, and it's very upsetting. Even if I clarify something, people will turn it around. Because negative news sells. You're not me. You don't live my life. You're not answerable to the people that I'm answerable to." He added, "People who put out such negativity have to live with their conscience. They need to deal with their conscience and answer to their maker. See, it's not just me. I don't get affected. I know what the rigmarole of this place is. There are families involved. I'll give you a very good example of this whole new fad of trolling." Abhishek Bachchan further shared an anecdote about a particularly hurtful comment left by a troll on one of his social media posts. His friend Sikandar Kher was so outraged that he responded by publicly posting his address and challenging the troll to say it to his face. The actor said, "It's so convenient to sit anonymously behind a computer screen and write the nastiest things. You do realise you're hurting somebody. No matter how thick-skinned they are, it affects them. How would you like it if somebody did that to you?" Challenging online haters to face him in person, Abhishek added, 'If you're going to say it on the internet, I dare you to come say it to me on my face. That person clearly will never have the guts to come and tell me this on my face. If someone comes and tells me things on my face, then I will feel they have conviction. I will respect that." Workwise, Abhishek Bachchan will next be seen in Kaalidhar Laapata. Directed by Madhumita, the film also features Daivik Bhagela and Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles. It will premiere on ZEE5 on July 4.

Abhishek Bachchan remembers getting locked in projector room with Kareena Kapoor during 'Refugee' premiere ; Prayed at every temple

Twenty-five years since his cinematic debut, Abhishek Bachchan took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reflecting on the release of 'Refugee', the film that launched both him and Kareena Kapoor into Bollywood. Sharing heartfelt and amusing anecdotes from that time, Abhishek revealed that he and Kareena were once locked inside a projector room at Gaiety Galaxy because fans discovered they were in the theatre. Rain, Blessings, and First-Night Jitters Speaking to SCREEN, Abhishek remembered how the premiere night of Refugee felt surreal. 'It rained on the day of the premiere, and everyone panicked. But I saw it as a blessing,' he said, recalling the anxiety of watching his film with industry veterans at Liberty Cinema. He had been filming Shararat in Manali and reached Mumbai just a day before the premiere. 'I stopped at every temple on the way for blessings,' he shared with a smile. Meeting filmmakers like Yash Chopra on the red carpet and feeling the warmth of his extended industry 'family' helped ease his nerves. After the premiere, a celebratory dinner stretched into the early hours. 'I sat at Marine Drive at dawn with Sikandar (Kher) just soaking it all in,' Abhishek recounted. Projector Room Hideout With Bebo Abhishek's favorite memory, however, came two days after the premiere when bad weather cancelled his flight back to Manali. 'I got excited and called up Bebo (Kareena),' he said. 'We decided to visit theatres showing the film.' Their visit to Gaiety and Chandan Cinema stirred unexpected fan frenzy. 'We had to be locked inside the projector room because people realised we were there,' he said and added that he still get goosebumps when he thinks about the incident. Reflections After 25 Years Reflecting on his growth as an actor, Abhishek said, 'I think my features have remained the same, but I hope I've evolved as an artist.' He emphasized the need for actors to adapt with changing audience tastes, adding, 'Improvement is a journey. I've tried to do it with each passing year.' 'Refugee' may have had a modest box office run, but for Abhishek, it marked the unforgettable beginning of a lifelong passion. Release Timeline and Production Update Actress Sanvikaa, who plays Rinki, recently confirmed to OTT Play that Panchayat Season 5 is in development. The shoot is expected to commence later this year or in early 2026, depending on how quickly the writing phase wraps up. Beloved Cast Returns to Phulera The original ensemble that brought life to Phulera is expected to return. Jitendra Kumar will reprise his role as Abhishek Tripathi, along with Neena Gupta (Manju Devi), Raghubir Yadav (Pradhan Ji), Faisal Malik (Prahlad Pandey), Chandan Roy (Vikas), Tripti Sah (Khushboo), and Sanvikaa (Rinki). What to Expect in Season 5 Season 4 ended on a political cliffhanger. Fans are hopeful for a return to the simpler joys of village life. Key arcs may include Abhishek's dilemma over his CAT results—will he leave for Delhi or stay for Rinki and Phulera? Pradhan Ji might reclaim his political stature, while the romantic arcs involving Abhishek-Rinki and Vikas-Khushboo could take centre stage. As excitement builds, Panchayat Season 5 promises not just laughter and nostalgia, but also heartfelt explorations of love, community, and purpose in India's rural heartland. 'Panchayat 4' - our verdict We gave the latest season a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5 and our ETimes review read, "Season four centers on the rivalry between the factions of Pradhan Ji and Bhushan. Tensions rise with the approaching elections. Abhishek is assaulted by Chandu's men; Bhushan informs on Vikas, leading to the raid. In a bid to shift loyalties, Pradhan Ji invites Binod for dinner. The season plays out like a series of loosely linked village episodes rather than a tightly woven plot."
