IndiGo to build maintenance, repair & operation infra at Bangalore in partnership with BIAL
'We have had a very successful, long-term relationship with IndiGo, and this collaboration further strengthens our association with the airline,' said Hari Marar, MD & CEO, Bangalore International Airport (BIAL).
'This is a strong validation of the growth potential of BLR Airport and the City of Bengaluru as a premier aviation hub. The partnership reinforces our commitment to developing world-class aviation infrastructure and enhancing BLR Airport's role as India's premier aerospace and MRO hub,' he added.Additionally, the partnership will also assist each other in various areas, including network expansion, infrastructure development, and joint marketing initiatives. IndiGo anticipates that the airline will surpass 600 aircraft in its fleet by 2030. It has joined hands 'with Norse Atlantic Airways for the dry lease of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, deliveries of which will be completed by early 2026, anticipating the arrival of the A350 in 2027.'IndiGo has earlier announced the commencement of long-haul operations with non-stop, direct flights connecting Mumbai with Manchester and Amsterdam starting July 2025.
Furthermore, the release also said that, 'as IndiGo's fleet of damp-leased B787S expands later this year, the airline is planning to expand its long-haul network to London and Copenhagen.'There are plans by the airline to add four new domestic destinations to its network, which will increase connectivity from 91 to 95 destinations. IndiGo is all set to become the first airline to start operations at the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Noida International Airport in Jewar.At a press briefing, the CEO of Indigo highlighted that Indigo's loyalty program has already signed up 3 million members in just six months.'The financial year 2025 has been a pivotal year in our journey as we took significant steps in our evolution into a truly global airline. This includes the introduction of IndiGoStretch, our tailor-made business offering, and BlueChip, our loyalty program, besides sizeable network expansion in the domestic as well as international market,' Pieter Elbers said. Indian Army makes big defence deal, will buy 212 tank transporter trailers that will enhance military operational capability
(Image: ANI) New Delhi: The Indian Army on Friday, 1 August, signed an agreement of Rs 223.95 crore with Axiscades Aerospace and Technologies Private Limited. Under this, 212 state-of-the-art 50-tonne tank transporter trailers will be purchased. This deal is an important step towards increasing the operational mobility capability of the army and supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. This agreement was signed under the Indian-IDDM category. This agreement gives priority to indigenous design, development and manufacturing. This will strengthen self-reliance in the defence sector. These trailers are equipped with hydraulic/pneumatic ramps and steerable and liftable axles. These will make it easier to transport tanks and armoured vehicles to difficult areas. These trailers will add to the operational strength of the army and greatly enhance the logistics and operational capabilities of the army, and will act as a force multiplier. This deal will boost the indigenous defence manufacturing sector and will also create permanent employment opportunities. This is a sign of strong preparation for future challenges. Earlier, the Indian Army conducted the high-tech Divya Drishti exercise in Sikkim on 28 July. The exercise, conducted in the high-altitude areas of East Sikkim, tested new technologies designed to improve battlefield awareness, real-time surveillance and quick decision-making. The soldiers of the Tri Shakti Corps used a combination of ground-based systems and aerial platforms, including UAVs and drones, to execute real scenarios. Its special feature was the use of AI sensors. These sensors were connected to advanced communication systems. This arrangement ensured smooth and secure data flow between the command centres and helped in increasing situational awareness as well as making accurate decisions, i.e. a strong sensor-to-shooter link was created.

Air India privatisation a disaster, says Manish Tewari
Congress leader Manish Tewari called the government's decision to privatise Air India and transfer its ownership to the Tata Group a 'disaster' over complaints about cancellations and delays, and described the airline as a 'management mess'. 'The Government of India should take Air India back from the Tata Group. They have run the airline into the ground,' he wrote in a post on X on Friday (August 1, 2025), calling the privatisation exercise a 'disaster'. He lamented the cancellations and delays by Air India 'at the drop of a hat', and claimed that these were happening without any explanations being offered by the airline. In a reference to appointees from Tata Group companies at the airline, he remarked that 'pilots and crew tell me that people who grow tea in Tata Tea, make steel in Tata Steel, make cars in Tata Motors are running Air India' and labelled the airline as a complete management mess. Tata Group took over Air India in January 2022 after it won the bid invited by the government for selling its 100% stake in the erstwhile national carrier. The airline has been at the centre of public and regulatory scrutiny since the June 12 crash in Ahmedabad that killed 260 people, the deadliest crash in the country in three decades, and the first involving a Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
