Police believe store robberies in Anaheim and Santa Monica are related
The Santa Monica Police Department believes the crew may be involved in more robberies in Southern California.
Investigators said the clothing store robbery happened at The RealReal location near the 200 block of 26th Street on July 18. More than a dozen suspects smashed through the first store's front glass door before breaking into multiple display cases and stealing "high-end merchandise," according to Santa Monica PD.
Witness Ramondo Taylor recorded a video of the thieves carrying bags of clothing and other goods into four getaway vehicles. Santa Monica police said the license plates had been removed from the suspects' SUVs and cars.
"I knew they were up to no good," Taylor said. "I'm going wow, this is like a movie."
Detectives believe the suspects carried out a similar smash-and-grab robbery a day before the Santa Monica robbery.
On July 17, a group of thieves smashed into the Al-Amira Jewelry store in Anaheim while the owner was inside. The owner scared off the suspects by firing a single shot shortly after the break-in.
In both cases, no one was hurt.

Speed driver Chris Raschke dies attempting to set the land speed record during Utah racing event
A speed driver died while trying to break a record during the Bonneville Speed Week event in Utah on Sunday. Chris Raschke, 60, was driving at 283 miles per hour while trying to set a land speed record at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats. Unfortunately, he lost control of his vehicle two and a half miles into his run, which led to his passing, according to reports. Medical staff quickly acted on the scene before Raschke succumbed to his injuries. In a statement from the Southern California Timing Association, they revealed that the cause of the incident was still under investigation. "At approximately 3:03 p.m. Mountain Time today, driver Chris Raschke was attempting a speed record and lost control of his land speed vehicle at approximately the 2 1/2 mile," The SCTA stated. "Chris was treated by medical professionals at the scene. Unfortunately, Chris passed away from his injuries." Raschke was part of the Speed Demon team out of Ventura, California and drove the Speed Demon Streamliner — a long, narrow, aerodynamic vehicle made to run at high speeds. According to the team website, he began working in motorsports in the 1980s and has been with the Speed Demon team for 13 years. "At this time, we ask everyone to please respect Chris's family, friends, and the Speed Demon team. We are deeply devastated," the team said in a statement. Aside from the Speed Demon team, the American Hot Rod Foundation also mourned Raschke's death. "To those who knew him on the salt, he was someone who found the perfect balance of friendly and competitive. Never a usual combination and one that speaks to the quality of his character," the association stated. "We send our deepest sympathies to Chris's family and friends." The Southern California Timing Association reported that 18 records were set in a total of 261 runs on Sunday. Seven of the records were achieved by cars and 11 were by motorcycles. Speed Week race director Keith Pedersen said Raschke's death was a huge blow to the community. "It's much more of a camaraderie and community, and that builds a lot of friendships and trust," Pedersen told KUTV. "He's a big part of it, and he will be sorely missed." Speed Week will continue at the Bonneville Salt Flats through Friday, August 8.

Man struck, killed by pickup in Modesto on Yosemite Boulevard
A man has died after he was struck by a pickup truck in Modesto early Tuesday morning, authorities say. Modesto police say officers responded just before 5 a.m. near the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and Santa Barbara Avenue to investigate reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. At the scene, officers found an injured man lying in the road. Medics soon pronounced the man dead, police say. Investigators believe the man was struck by a pickup that was heading east on Yosemite Boulevard. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with detectives. The name of the man who died has not been released by authorities. The intersection was closed through the early morning hours but has since been reopened.

Chargers' Denzel Perryman released without charges after firearms arrest
Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman will not face criminal charges after law enforcement officials in California said they discovered five firearms in his car during a traffic stop. Perryman, 32, was arrested by Los Angeles Sheriff's deputies on Friday evening after several weapons were found in his possession, including two "assault-style rifles." "On August 1, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., South Los Angeles Station deputies conducted a traffic stop on Los Angeles Chargers football player Denzel Perryman, 32, for vehicle code violations," the sheriff's department said in a statement. "During the traffic stop, deputies discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman's vehicle, two of which were assault-style rifles." Initially, the NFL veteran was booked on felony charges and held without bail over the weekend, but by 1 p.m. on Monday, he was released. According to online jail records, he was listed as being detained only. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Perryman initially had a court date listed for Tuesday before he was released without any charges on Monday. Perryman was drafted by the Chargers in 2015 and played for the team until 2020. He is in his second stint with the team after signing a one-year contract in 2024 and re-signing with the Chargers again this offseason. He also had stints with the Houston Texans and the Las Vegas Raiders.
