Kuwait Army adds Bayraktar TB2 drone to arsenal

KUWAIT CITY, July 17: Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Sabah said Thursday that the launching of Bayraktar TB2 drone is a manifestation of the commitment of the wise political leadership to support plans for the continuous development and modernization of defense systems, to raise combat readiness and achieve the highest level of security and stability in the country. The General Staff of Kuwaiti Army made the statement during the Bayraktar TB2 drone launching ceremony at Salem Al-Sabah Air Base, under his sponsorship and in his presence. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army Major General Pilot Sabah Jaber Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah, Air Force Commander Brigadier General Pilot Mohammad Al-Hamdan, Salem Al-Sabah Air Base Commander Brigadier General Pilot Mohammad Al-Rasheed and several Air Force officers warmly welcomed the minister.
Defense Minister also pointed out that the launching of drones into service is a qualitative leap in developing the capabilities of the Army; particularly in the areas of surveillance, reconnaissance and information gathering. He stressed the importance of investing in training national technical and operational personnel to ensure maximum benefit from the modern systems. He affirmed that the Army is the nation's impregnable shield and safety valve in facing various challenges. He asserted this step is in line with the commitment of the ministry to use the latest global innovations and technologies to improve the defense systems, and provide modern capabilities that contribute to protecting national borders and airspace. He expressed his pride in the national competencies that worked on the project and contributed to bringing the drone into service, praising the cooperation and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the Army and the Air Force. The inauguration ceremony began with a technical briefing on the operational and technical capabilities of Bayraktar TB2 drone; including its accurate surveillance and reconnaissance capacities, and its ability to carry out air support missions and tactical operations.
After the ceremony, a live demonstration of the Bayraktar TB2 drone was presented, showcasing its technical and combat abilities; followed by the minister's tour of the facilities, during which he assessed the level of readiness of the drone and operating amenities. He also met with a number of officers and technicians supervising the project. (KUNA)

Regional and environmental cooperation First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah briefed the Cabinet on the outcomes of his official visits to Lebanon and Syria. During these visits, he met with senior officials to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the field of security. In line with Kuwait's commitment to combating climate change, Minister of Oil Dr. Tareq Al-Roumi, along with senior officials from the Environment Public Authority, presented a long-term national roadmap aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. The strategy focuses on adopting innovative, integrated solutions to drive sustainable economic growth and enhance national resilience to climate change impacts. Economic outlook and fiscal performance Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investments Noura Al-Fassam delivered a detailed briefing on preparations for Kuwait's upcoming economic evaluation and assessment. She also presented the State's final financial statement for fiscal year 2024-2025, which recorded a deficit of KD 1.056 billion. The Cabinet acknowledged the urgency of addressing financial waste and boosting non-oil revenues, calling for collective action across all government entities. It reviewed and approved draft laws related to final financial statements for the fiscal year, which will be referred to His Highness the Amir for endorsement. Citizenship review Lastly, the Cabinet approved the report submitted by the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship, concerning cases involving the loss and withdrawal of nationality. The decisions were made in accordance with the provisions of Law No 15 of 1959 regulating Kuwaiti nationality. — KUNA

Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah and other officials discuss a proposal submitted by Libya to amend the third paragraph of Article (45) of the statute of the Charter Committee. - KUNA CAIRO: Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah reaffirmed Kuwait's firm commitment to international conventions and agreements related to human rights, particularly the Arab Charter on Human Rights. Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday, Sheikha Jawaher underscored Kuwait's belief in the importance of regional cooperation in promoting and safeguarding human rights. Her remarks came on the sidelines of the meeting of States Parties to the Arab Charter on Human Rights, held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. The meeting focused on a Libyan proposal to amend paragraph three of Article 45 of the Charter's statute, concerning the mechanism for electing members of the Arab Charter Committee. Sheikha Jawaher expressed hope that member states would reach consensus on the proposed amendment, noting that the committee currently comprises 18 members, and there is a shared aspiration to expand representation to include all 22 Arab League member states. She emphasized that any changes should be guided by a unified vision that reflects the collective will of the state's parties. Highlighting the committee's pivotal role, Sheikha Jawaher said it plays a vital function in monitoring state's compliance with their human rights obligations and in enhancing respect for human rights throughout the Arab world. Commenting on Kuwait's engagement with the Arab Charter mechanisms, she said the country remains committed to Arab solidarity and collective advancement. Kuwait has submitted its second national report to the Arab Charter Committee, which is scheduled for review in the last quarter of this year. The country has received the committee's list of issues and is currently working on its responses in preparation for the official session. On the sidelines of the meeting, Sheikha Jawaher met with Dr Mohammad Al-Shehhi, the newly elected Chair of the Arab Charter Committee, to congratulate him on his election to the post. The meeting also served to coordinate an upcoming official visit to Kuwait, during which the committee will meet with government and civil society stakeholders ahead of the national report's discussion. Sheikha Jawaher also led Kuwait's delegation to the 56th session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights, which convened at the Arab League headquarters with participation from all member states. — KUNA
