Colleen and Wayne Rooney watch son Kai at SuperCupNI as Old Trafford legend delivers stark message for Man United fans

Manchester United fans who are anticipating a title challenge from Ruben Amorim's team this season are being 'naive' according to the club's all-time record goalscorer. Indeed Old Trafford great Wayne Rooney, who was in Coleraine with his wife Colleen to watch his son Kai play for the Red Devils against Rangers at the SuperCup NI, says that moving players out of the club is more important than what, if any, recruitment can be done ahead of the Premier League kick-off in just over two week's time. Rooney was a five-time title winner at the club, as well as being part of the Champions League winning team of 2008, but United are now going into a 13th season since their last League victory and Rooney isn't expecting that to change any time soon, although he is encouraged by some of the things that he has seen happen this summer. 'It has to be a long-term thing,' said the man who found the net 253 times in a United shirt. 'If you sit here expecting Manchester United to win the League next season then I think you'd be very naive. 'I think it's a process that they have to go through and try to get back challenging for the League.' Amorim has spent a combined £133m on the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as he tries to revive the fortunes of the club after finishing in a lowly 15th position last season – United's worst finish in the Premier League era. With defending Champions Liverpool spending big during the summer, local rivals Manchester City bolstering their squad for a renewed challenge and Chelsea too being aggressive in the transfer market once again the task for Amorim remains huge. 'They've had a very difficult season – a difficult few seasons actually,' said Rooney. 'I think we are starting to see signs that they are getting back to being on the right tack and I hope that's the case. 'It's a huge season ahead for the club. I think it's a huge few weeks before the start of the Premier League to see if they can get any more players in, what players they can get in and players out as well – probably more importantly. 'It's a big season, but I think we are seeing signs of them getting things in place, which I think is really important.'

Simon Cowell 'never been so angry' after treatment on Celebrity SAS show

X Factor star, Lucy Spraggan, has spilled the beans on Simon Cowell's brief cameo on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which returns to Channel 4 on Sunday Simon Cowell was fuming after his small stint on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins recently, according to the show's new recruit, Lucy Spraggan. ‌ The dad-of-one, 65, who walked the X Factor star, 34, down the aisle last year, is not part of the lineup, but pops up in the Channel 4 endurance show when he calls Lucy to try and help motivate her. ‌ The singer, who has been close friends with Simon following her harrowing experience on the X Factor in 2012, is reportedly hung up on by the DS (directing staff) when he tries to rally his pal, leaving the media mogul "so angry". ‌ Speaking to The Sun, Lucy said: "The DS [directing staff] hung up on him and he was like, 'I've never been so angry'." In the interview, the singer also said the 65-year-old considered appearing on the show himself, but she was worried he'd 'die'. She revealed: "He thought it was a great idea, me doing the show. He knows I love being outdoors. We do a lot of shooting air rifles and stuff together, so he knows this is my thing, testing my mental resilience. ‌ "It was just funny because he had said, 'Oh, maybe I'll try and have a go at it'. I was like, 'Simon, you would literally die!'. It was funny because it really contextualised how hard it was that I just straight away said to him, 'You would have no chance.' Lucy bestowed the biggest honour on the media mogul when he walked her down the aisle last year. The former X Factor boss also made a speech at her wedding to the "love of her life" Emilia Smith. ‌ And while many fans may be bamboozled at Lucy's close bond with Simon, she's spoken fondly about him and how she knows a "very wholesome version" of the multi-millionaire. Lucy - who is estranged from her biological dad - and Simon were able to build a strong bond over the last four years after he apologised for not supporting her following her harrowing sex attack in 2012 while she was filming The X Factor. At the time, Lucy was only 21 years old and was sexually attacked by a hotel porter named Soby John, who used his hotel key card to enter her room after she had passed out drunk after celebrating Rylan Clark's birthday. ‌ But it wasn't until the death of Caroline Flack in 2020, Lucy felt able to speak out about her ordeal. Her attacker was sentenced to 10 years and was deported back to India, after serving three years of his sentence. Lucy now has her sights set on winning Celebrity SAS in which she stars alongside Love Island 's Tasha Ghouri, The Traitors ' Harry Clark, S Club's Hannah Spearritt and former glamour model Rebecca Loos.

One in three Brits admit they lie at dinner parties - and it's not just about the cooking

A study of 2,000 adults found the most common things people lie about at dinner parties are their salary, how sporty they are and their knowledge of current affairs A third of Brits admit to fibbing about their personal lives often exaggerating their salaries, sporting ability, or knowledge of current affairs, particularly at dinner parties. A poll of 2,000 adults found that 38 per cent have embellished a story to friends or colleagues to make it more entertaining. Even childhood memories are subject to embellishment, with 13 per cent confessing to stretching the truth when chatting to their in-laws. ‌ But the white lies don't stop at small talk. The survey revealed that 14 per cent of people would be economical with the truth about how they prepared food when hosting guests. In fact, a quarter of hosts have served up air-fried dishes but claimed they were cooked another way. ‌ ‌ The research was commissioned by Bosch, who teamed up with The Traitors stars Harry Clark and Mollie Pearce to challenge myths about air-fried food following the launch of its new air fryer. The reality TV stars invited sceptical members of the public into a studio kitchen to sample two identical-looking dishes: one cooked traditionally, the other in an air fryer. Harry Clark said: "It's funny to see how many people will lie at the dinner table to make themselves look good." ‌ "But it's not just embellishing their tales to others, clearly, some people feel the need to be a little deceptive when it comes to how they're preparing their food," he added. "I've got a decent nose for spotting when something's not quite what it seems - and food's no exception. When we watched people try to guess which dish was cooked in the air fryer, it was hilarious as most of them got it wrong." ‌ A quarter of those surveyed admit they worry that if they exaggerate too much, others will discover the truth. Meanwhile, 28 per cent have been caught out in a lie, usually by their friends. When it comes to dinner parties, 19 per cent say they would lie and tell the host they enjoyed the meal, even if they didn't. Nearly half of Brits still prefer traditional cooking methods and are wary of using an air fryer. In contrast, 37 per cent have proudly served up an air-fried dish to dinner party guests. A Bosch spokesperson said: "When it comes to new cooking tech, people are divided - some are devoted fans of the air fryer, while others just don't trust it yet. "That's why we created Air Fryer or Air Liar - to prove you don't need to fake it."
