Dassault Systèmes and Patrick Jouin Unveil 'Ta.Tamu,' Their Latest Collaboration Redefining Traditional Design

Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: FR0014003TT8, DSY.PA) and the French designer Patrick Jouin today unveiled 'Ta.Tamu,' a lightweight, 3D-printed and functional chair, co-created using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud. Ta.Tamu serves as a proof of concept for emerging, generative design processes that combine AI-powered virtual twins and the frugal use of materials to drive the generative economy.

Dassault Systèmes and the French designer Patrick Jouin unveiled 'Ta.Tamu,' co-created using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud.
Ta.Tamu is the result of a four-year dialogue between Patrick Jouin's intuitive design approach and Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Designers and engineers redefined how a chair could be conceived — challenging traditional design methods, pushing formal and structural limits, and inventing new ways to minimize matter.
Developed through enhanced ideation and concept development, and a life cycle assessment integrated early in the process, Ta.Tamu's pioneering aesthetics were inspired by biomimicry and the structural logic of the human body, such as bone density and joint articulation. The light yet robust lattice structure weighs just 8.6 pounds (3.9 kg), can support 220 pounds (100 kg), and can be 3D printed in a flat, folded position without needing assembly.

With the help of new collaborative technologies of Dassault Systèmes, we are now able to come up with new ideas and make them possible, creating more efficiently while producing less waste, right from the design process,' said Jouin.
Collaborating around an AI-powered virtual twin, design teams modeled and simulated the behavior of complex assembled components, using topological optimization to refine every joint, unfolding articulation, and zone of pressure and support. At each stage, the design evolved in real time through close interaction with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, with changes updated and visible in the virtual twin. Teams modified the chair's geometry while balancing its aesthetics, resulting in an optimal design where gesture, function, and structure converge in a chair that weighs 75% less than it would have weighed at full density.

Through objects such as One Shot, Bloom, and the monolithic bench at the Palais de Tokyo, Patrick Jouin has revealed the ability of these tools to generate intuitive, lightweight, and sometimes otherwise unattainable forms. There's no shortage of futuristic gear in sci-fi anime, but nothing has ever topped the cool factor of Kaneda's motorcycle in Akira. That sleek red motorcycle racing through the neon-soaked streets of Neo-Tokyo is a cultural symbol. Whether it's the unforgettable 'Akira slide' or the way it's been lovingly copied in games, films, and animation for decades, fans have been dreaming of riding their own version for years. That dream just got a small jolt of electricity. At Reload Land in Berlin, Ichiban Motorcycle, a Japanese company with a clear obsession for style and speed unveiled a bold prototype inspired by Akira. While this machine doesn't match Kaneda's bike beat for beat, it pulls from the same futuristic aesthetic. Sleek. Minimal. Fast. And very red. It's not a screen-accurate replica, but it feels like the kind of ride Kaneda would roll up on in 2025. 'Our First Prototype Debuted at Reload Land,' the company shared in a press release. 'The First Step of Something Big. Last weekend, something incredible happened. At Reload Land in Berlin — Europe's premier showcase for electric bikes — we unveiled our very first prototype to the public: Ichiban Prototype 01. It's bold. It's electric. The bike reportedly hits 0 to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds, and there's even a feature called Godzilla Mode that boosts the torque for those anime-worthy takeoffs. It's wild. Fans have been trying to recreate Kaneda's ride for decades. Some go the DIY route with foam and paint, others have built powered versions that get kinda close. But there's always been a challenge with the original bike's design, mainly that it sits so low to the ground and wraps the rider between the wheels. It's not exactly street legal or comfortable. Ichiban's prototype sidesteps that with a practical but stylish frame built for the real world. More than three decades after Akira hit the screen, its influence shows no signs of slowing down. Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 anime classic still hits hard with its cyberpunk visuals, government conspiracies, and of course—Kaneda's unstoppable bike. Now, thanks to a little innovation and a lot of love from Ichiban, we're one step closer to tearing through the streets like it's Neo-Tokyo.
