Some of idled Dalian train coaches now operational —Marcos
'Nakabili tayo ng 48 na karwahe para sa tren. Mula ng 2014, hindi pa 'to – nakatengga lang ito, hindi po nagamit,' Marcos said during the launch of the 50% discount for train fares of senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
(We procured 48 coaches for this train line. Since 2014, they have remained idle.)
'Kaya ang ginawa natin ay binalikan natin itong mga ito at tiniyak natin na kung anuman ang kailangang gawin para magamit ang Dalian train na ito ay gawin na natin,' he added.
(What we did was we ensured that whatever needs to be done will be done so that the Dalian trains can be used.)
In 2023, it was reported that the 48 sets of Dalian trains procured by the Philippine government to expand the operations of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) remained unused due to unresolved incompatibility issues with the rail system.
The procurement of Dalian trains was done to increase the capacity of the said train line to 800,000 passengers per day.
This also seeks the decongestion of the rail system. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Philippine flag at Batasan gets a cleaning before SONA 2025
The giant flag in the session hall of the House of Representatives has been washed, ironed and re-hung ahead of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA). The flag—measuring 12 meters long and six meters wide—was taken down three days ago to be spot-cleaned, then washed in an industrial washing machine for 20 minutes by a cleaning firm that won the contract through a bidding process. After being washed, the flag was dried and ironed before being delivered to the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City on Thursday. Workers ironed the flag again before it was attached to a wooden pole operated by a machine and hoisted back up to loom over the session hall, where Marcos will deliver the SONA—the fourth in his presidency—on July 28.

Taiheiyo to finish P3.72-B Batangas distribution terminal in Q2 2026
Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI), the local subsidiary of Japanese cement giant Taiheiyo Cement Corp., is targeting to complete its P3.72-billion Luzon Distribution Terminal in Calaca, Batangas, by the second quarter of 2026. This development was disclosed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Thursday. The Trade Department, in a statement, said it welcomed TCPI's long-term investment in the country, 'which is poised to meet the growing demand for high-quality cement throughout Luzon.' The project is seen to raise the Japanese cement maker's production capacity to 4 million tons per year and generate 26,000 new direct and indirect jobs for the country. The new terminal will also facilitate the wider distribution of blended cement, an environmentally conscious product that helps reduce carbon emissions by using recycled materials like fly ash and slag. The Trade Department said TCPI's Luzon facility is a key component of Taiheiyo's P21 billion (JPY 54 billion) multi-phase investment program in the Philippines. Taiheiyo Cement Corp. is a leading cement company in Japan, holding a 40% domestic market share and employing approximately 13,000 people globally. TCPI, its Philippine unit headquartered in Cebu, is a 'strategic pillar' in the Japanese firm's expansion plans in Southeast Asia, providing employment to hundreds of Filipinos and serving as a critical production and logistics hub, according to the DTI. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
