Dele Alli 'looking for a new club' after being banished from Como squad by Cesc Fabregas - amid claims former Tottenham star was 'considering retirement'

Dele Alli is reportedly searching for a new club after being left out of Como's preseason plans by manager Cesc Fabregas. This news comes after reports in Italy stated that the former England international was contemplating retirement at just 29 years old, following a turbulent half-decade in football. Dele is training away from Como's squad as they prepare for their preseason camp in Marbella, and now appears to be a surplus to requirements at the Serie A club, just months after joining from Everton. Nevertheless, Dele still wants to continue his playing career, while Como have told him he must do so elsewhere, according to The Telegraph. The former Tottenham star made just one appearance for the club, which last just nine minutes. After coming off the bench for his debut in March, he was sent off for a challenge on fellow English midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. It remains to be seen what level Dele continues his football career at, but a move to a Premier League club would certainly be an unlikely lifeline. Dele's exit from Como marks another sobering chapter in a career that once promised so much. He burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation at MK Dons before securing a move to Spurs in 2015, where he won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards. Aged 22, he starred for England at the 2018 World Cup, helping the Three Lions reach the semi-finals. However, following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, Dele struggled to win the trust of successive managers and was eventually shipped out to Everton in 2022. A loan move to Besiktas followed but was cut short due to injury and disciplinary issues. Dele has previously spoken about the mental toll his career has taken, bravely opening up in an emotional interview in 2023 about childhood trauma and his struggles with addiction. He explained that he had been molested at the age of six, started smoking and dealing drugs by eight, and had attempted to take his own life during his darkest moments. The midfielder revealed in early 2024 that he had been targeting a spot at the 2026 World Cup with England as he looks at an eventual return to international football. Dele previously starred as an England regular and played at Euro 2016 and the World Cup in Russia two years later, but hasn't featured since making his 37th international appearance six years ago. 'You know you can set reminders on your phone, I have a reminder at 11 o'clock every day that says, "World Cup 2026",' he said on Sky Sports in April last year. 'That's my aim for now. I think that people will be like, "he hasn't played in a year" but I don't care, I know my level. 'The only target I have is the World Cup right now. Obviously I'm injured and contracted to Everton and so my mind is just about taking it day by day and making sure my injury is healed and that I'm in the best possible condition after the summer. 'It's annoying because I'll be just fully training as the season ends so it means that I won't have to rush it.'

Woman jailed for leaving eight starving dogs to eat each other in hellhole flat

Stacey Harris, 39, was jailed for eight months and banned from ever owning dogs again after seven dogs died when they were starved and left in a filthy abandoned flat Seven dogs horrifically died after they were left in a filthy hellhole flat as a woman has been jailed over the shocking cruelty. ‌ Stacey Harris, 39, left eight dogs to die in disgusting conditions inside an abandoned flat in Dundee. The 39-year-old had starved the animals for at least two months and failed to provide food or seek treatment for painful eye and ear infections. Only one dog managed to survive the appalling conditions the suffering animals had been kept in. ‌ Harris appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday and was handed an eight month jail sentence and a lifetime ban from owning or keeping dogs. It comes after a dad died in a scalding hot bath as his family slam a hotel's management for 'ignoring warnings'. ‌ She was found guilty of seven charges - six of causing unnecessary suffering and one of failing to meet basic welfare needs, according to the Daily Record. A probe was launched by the SSPCA after a tip-off was made about suspected dog abandonment in October 2024. A Scottish SPCA inspector said "We received a complaint that a property had been abandoned and the dogs inside had not been attended to for over a week." ‌ When officers arrived at the property, they could see an emaciated Sharpei-type dog with visibly infected eyes. The flat was said to have an overwhelming smell of faeces and urine, with the entire property being was littered with dog excrement, rubbish, and debris. A tan and white American Bulldog - the sole survivor - was so malnourished it could not walk and had to be carried out. A vet later said the dog had recently given birth and was suffering from dehydration, skin, and ear infections that had gone untreated for weeks. She was also extremely underweight, with ribs, spine, and hip bones visible. ‌ The SSPCA have not seen any report of the pregnancy or about the puppies of the surviving bulldog. After walking upstairs, inspectors found the remains of a dead Sharpie dog stuck in a bedroom doorway. The second dead dog, a Sharpei cross, was found lying on the floor of the second bedroom surrounded by dog faeces, empty dog food bags and rubbish. The bodies of a 12-year-old chihuahua and year old Sharpei were never found and were presumed eaten. Three other one year and four months old Sharpei-type dogs, who were all emaciated, were removed from the property using specialist equipment. They were later euthanised on welfare grounds due to the severity of their untreated conditions. The bodies of the two dead Sharpei dogs were taken for postmortem which confirmed both had died from prolonged starvation. An inspector added: "This was an extremely distressing case where multiple animals suffered unnecessarily for a prolonged period which could have been easily avoided by contacting an animal welfare organisation for help if needed. "It is hard to comprehend how any individual cannot attend to their own pets knowing they were locked up in a property. As a result, the Scottish SPCA and the Inspector involved are very pleased with Harris's sentencing and hope it acts as a deterrent to others."

Chester end pre-season programme with loss to Carlisle

Mark Hughes' Cumbrians are preparing for life in the National League following relegation from League Two and they were able to secure success at the Deva Stadium courtesy of Elliot Embleton's penalty and Tom Leak's own goal. Blues' boss McIntyre told Chester FC TV: 'I always think the last pre-season friendly, as a spectacle, can leave a bit to be desired and probably said something similar when we went to Macclesfield last year, Marine the year before that, Hyde the year before that. 'I think everyone's ready for the start of the season, possibly, like in the stands as well, but for an hour, I was really pleased around what we got out of it as a workout, and then just a couple of decisions we make. 'So, we're going to take Peersy (Tom Peers) off, we're going to take Dec (Weeks) off, we're going to take James Jones off. 'You look like teams do in pre-season friendlies, really disjointed, but we got a lot out of it tactically against a really good team. A side that will be right up at the right end of the National League.' Chester have bolstered their ranks ahead of the big kick-off. Forward Fin Roberts has returned on a season-long loan from Crewe Alex and young defender Isaac Burgess has signed.
