An Unexpected Move by Meta Changes the Rules of Artificial Intelligence
Mark Zuckerberg, the company's founder and CEO, announced the launch in a video on Instagram, noting that over one billion users are already interacting with the 'Meta AI' system across the company's various apps. The new release comes in the form of a standalone app, offering users a personalized and direct experience.
Zuckerberg explained that the app is designed to serve as a personal assistant for each user, relying primarily on voice interaction and tailoring responses to individual interests. Initially, the app uses minimal contextual information, but over time—and with user consent—it will be able to learn more about users' habits and social circles through Meta's connected apps. The AI is based on the open-source generative model 'LLaMA,' which has garnered significant attention from developers and has been downloaded over a billion times, making it one of the most widely used models in its category.
The app features a design aligned with Meta's social nature, allowing users to share AI-generated posts and view them in a personalized feed. It's powered by a newer version of the model known as 'LLaMA 4,' which brings more personalized and flexible interactions. Users can also choose to save shared information to avoid repeating it in future conversations. Additionally, the app offers the ability to search within Facebook and Instagram content—provided prior permission is granted.
This app serves as an alternative to the 'Meta View' app used with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, enabling seamless interaction across glasses, mobile, and desktop platforms through a unified interface.
The launch comes at a time when major tech companies are racing to release intelligent assistants aimed directly at users, with OpenAI still leading the market through the ongoing development of ChatGPT and its continuous integration of advanced features.

Morocco's National AI Conference highlights urgent need for training
Training public and private sector actors in artificial intelligence (AI) tools is essential to fully harness the potential of these emerging technologies, ministers said on Tuesday in Salé during the opening plenary of the National AI Conference. As AI becomes a key driver of competitiveness, training has become a critical requirement for turning this opportunity into a catalyst for sustainable and inclusive growth, the speakers emphasized. Mohamed Saad Berrada, Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, underscored the importance of mastering AI tools to improve educational system management and tackle pressing challenges, particularly in processing data related to students and teachers. He cited AI's potential to personalize curricula, support continuous teacher training, enhance language learning, and help reduce absenteeism and dropout rates. Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, stressed that AI is a transformative force for the job market. In light of this shift, he said the government's role is to integrate AI within a tailored legal and regulatory framework that unlocks the full potential of society. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, highlighted the vital link between energy and AI: «Without energy, there are no servers, no data centers, and no AI», she said. Benali noted that Morocco plans to double its capacity for producing non-conventional energy in under five years—a leap equivalent to the progress made over the past three decades. Chakib Alj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), pointed to the urgent need to effectively implement Morocco's national AI strategy. He emphasized the private sector's need for skilled engineers and digital talent, praising the 1337 coding school as a successful model for training tech-savvy youth—a model, he suggested, that should be scaled up to meet evolving market demands.

Meta Launches New Feature on WhatsApp
In a new move to enhance user experience, Meta has announced the launch of a smart feature on WhatsApp that allows users to summarize unread messages and receive suggested written replies—all without compromising chat privacy or encryption. According to TechCrunch, the feature is powered by artificial intelligence and is designed for individual users only. It remains invisible to others in the conversation and is activated through a small icon within the app, without sending any disruptive notifications. The new functionality builds on technologies Meta developed in April and works locally on the user's device, meaning the company does not access message content or the generated summaries. Meta stated in its blog: 'We use local, on-device processing to ensure your summaries and replies stay on your phone only.' Previously, WhatsApp's AI was limited to answering general questions within chats without interacting with the conversation content. Now, it can securely interpret context to provide smart suggestions and summaries. The feature is currently available in English in the United States, but is expected to roll out to more languages and regions in the future. Users can enable or disable the feature through the app settings: Settings → Chats → Private Processing, to choose the AI functions that suit their preferences.
