NEC Nijmegen string-puller set for difficult contract decision
Initially, Director Carlos Aalbers was hoping for a quick agreement with Proper at the beginning of July. 'We're in talks and we'll see what comes of it,' the NEC man responded to the Gelderlander cameras. He acknowledged that a contract extension isn't an easy decision.

'Sooner or later, of course, someone wants to make a move, and you have to take that into account. I think NEC are a fantastic club, and that will always be the case, but as a player, you only have a certain time in your career, and at some point you have to make sure you make a move,' Proper continues about his considerations.
'NEC have a vested interest in that, too. They want to keep me to make money off me. That's their right. And if I may describe my ideal situation, that's naturally what you'd prefer.'
Proper admits it's a real dilemma. 'You can ask anyone with a contract in its final year. These are things you think about, and that's really difficult, that decision. I can't say much about that. These are things I have to discuss with Carlos and see if we can find a solution.'
Proper remains quiet about interest from other clubs. 'I'm not making any statements about that either,' he laughs. The midfielder suffered a concussion at the end of last season, causing him to miss the European Championship with the Dutch U21s. He has since recovered.

Quinshon Judkins is the last unsigned draft pick
With Bengals' first-round draft pick Shemar Stewart finally under contract, only one 2025 selection remains unsigned. Browns running back Quinshon Judkins, the fourth pick in round two, is not under contract. And it's not about whether he'll receive a fully-guaranteed contract. The player taken before him did, and the four taken after him did. This is about the possibility, if not the likelihood, that Judkins will land on paid leave as soon as he signs and shows up, due to a recent arrest for misdemeanor domestic battery. His better move will be to resolve the case, negotiate an unpaid suspension, and then sign his contract. This assumes the Browns still want him. They say they're doing their due diligence. Which, in theory, could prompt them to do something like relinquish their rights to him. It's unclear whether they would do that. He's accused of punching his girlfriend in the mouth/chin with a closed fist. And he's the third Browns player in the past year to face domestic violence issues, joining defensive tackle Mike Hall and linebacker Devin Bush. Someone will inevitably give Judkins a second chance; his talent guarantees that. The question is whether it will come with the Browns. And, if it does, how many games he'll miss before he's cleared to play.

Bengals rookie DE Shemar Stewart finally signs rookie contract
On Friday, after a lengthy holdout, the Cincinnati Bengals and rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart were able to come to a compromise on contract language and money. This means the last of the 2025 NFL draft class is finally signed and can report to training camp and get to work. The divide between Stewart and the Bengals was related to language Cincinnati wanted in the contract that would allow them to void future guarantees, and to get that, they bumped up Stewart's guaranteed money by around $500,000. The full four-year contract is fully guaranteed at $18.97 million, with $10.4 million of that coming as a signing bonus. Stewart returned to Texas A&M during his holdout and was actually working out with his old college team. We wondered if Stewart might consider just returning to college for 2025, but the way the NFL works, his rights would still belong to the Bengals upon his return, so it's good the two sides were able to come to an agreement. The Bengals selected Stewart No. 17 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, and make no mistake, the pick was a risk, even before this contract snafu. Stewart was drafted based on potential, not production and he's got plenty of catching up to do. This article originally appeared on Draft Wire: Bengals rookie DE Shemar Stewart signs rookie contract
