Days after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan and Turkiye are now aiming to enhance bilateral trade volume to USD 5 billion and have agreed to boost their cooperation in a range of sectors, including defence, trade, energy and infrastructure.
It is pertinent to mention that, during Operation Sindoor, Turkiye had sided with Pakistan and provided with drones and other ammunitions.
This was agreed during talks between Turkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defence Minister Yasar Guler with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
'Pakistan would like to benefit from Turkiye's expertise and experiences in this (defence) field,' Dar said, adding that both countries will further strengthen their cooperation to promote peace and stability in the entire region.
'We are actively engaged in different activities, including capacity building and counterterrorism,' Dar said, describing Turkiye as a 'trusted friend' and a 'reliable brother'.
The Turkish Foreign Minister called cooperation in the field of defence industry a 'strategic step' and said it will be further strengthened in the coming days.
He said that both countries will continue to support each other in countering terrorism.
'We are pursuing the establishment of a Special Economic Zone dedicated to Turkish entrepreneurs at Karachi,' Dar said while addressing a joint press conference alongside Fidan.
He also mentioned other engagements, including the revival of the Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad train, saying, 'Our delegations are meeting in the coming weeks to finalise the roadmap for revival.'
Dar said Pakistan has already allocated land for the construction of Turkiye's Maarif School in Muzaffarabad. 'A Maarif Foundation delegation is visiting Muzaffarabad today and visiting the site for evaluation,' he said.
Fidan noted that both countries have expanded their relations in the fields of economy, energy, defence, industry, education and culture, adding that they are aiming to increase their commercial relations to USD 5 billion.
Referring to the recent Pakistan-India conflict, Fidan was 'appreciative of Pakistan's wisdom-oriented attitude', state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
The Turkish delegation also called on Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at the Air Headquarters.
According to a statement by the army, the meeting encompassed discussions on evolving regional security dynamics, progress of ongoing defence cooperation and prospects for future collaboration in emerging domains of warfare.
'Highlighting the long-standing fraternal ties between Turkiye and Pakistan, Guler conveyed Turkiye's earnest desire to bolster bilateral defence relations through deeper industry-to-industry collaboration,' the army said.
He lauded the air force's 'exceptional performance' under the 'insightful leadership' of the Air Chief in the recent conflict with India, it added.
Meanwhile, during his talks with Fidan and Guler, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan was committed to transforming its ties with Turkiye into a 'strategic partnership'.
The prime minister also invited Turkish companies to expand their investment footprint in Pakistan and to share their expertise in the country's structural reforms, economic growth and development and stressed the need for concerted efforts by both sides to enhance bilateral trade to attain the mutually agreed target of $5 billion.
Sharif expressed hope that the bilateral relations between the two countries would attain further momentum, leading to bolstering of cooperation in multifaceted areas.
Last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Sharif met on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.

Four Chinese nationals have been arrested in Tanagra, Greece, for photographing Rafale fighter jets and filming Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) facilities. Every year, same problem: Who is to blame for sinking Delhi-NCR after heavy rain?
A heavy spell of rain since last evening has left large parts of Delhi and NCR, especially North Delhi and many areas of Gurugram, severely waterlogged. The water inundation brought traffic to a standstill, flooded residential colonies, and once again exposed the recurring monsoon preparedness crisis in the national tall claims and early planning, Delhi appears to have been caught off guard yet again. Delhi's drainage and sewage management is handled by at least half a dozen different agencies - including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and the Irrigation and Flood Control is responsible for different zones and types of drains, yet overlapping jurisdictions and lack of coordination often lead to chaos. The MCD, for instance, is responsible for sanitation across nearly 96 per cent of Delhi's area and about 98 per cent of its population. Apart from managing solid waste, the MCD is also tasked with cleaning drains along roads narrower than 60 feet - mostly inside residential a dedicated allocation of Rs 36 crore this year, separate from the routine sanitation budget, the civic body admitted it had cleaned only 75 per cent of the drains under its jurisdiction by the time the monsoon drains along major roads such as Ring Road, ITO, and Minto Road - areas notorious for chronic waterlogging - fall under the domain of the PWD. These key arterial routes were among the worst affected in the last 24 hours. The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and PWD Minister Pravesh Verma, had earlier launched a campaign to ensure waterlogging would be avoided this year. Yet, water stood ankle-deep on several stretches under PWD's 1,259 km of road the Delhi Jal Board, responsible for the city's sewer system, faces its own set of challenges. A total of Rs 450 crore was allocated in the city's annual budget to upgrade the crumbling sewer infrastructure, which in many places is decades old and not equipped to handle the current population where drains are cleaned, overflowing or clogged sewers lead to street-level flooding. A comprehensive masterplan was drawn up back in 2014 to address these systemic issues, but 11 years later, most of it remains on Irrigation and Flood Control Department oversees major stormwater drains that discharge directly into the Yamuna - including the Najafgarh, Shahdara, Kushak, and Barapullah drains. Every year, a flood control order is issued before the monsoon and inter-agency meetings are held to monitor Yamuna's water level and clean these major channels.
