How footy great Braith Anasta has made a FORTUNE out of massive sport media shake-up

Daily Mail7 hours ago

NRL great Braith Anasta has emerged as one of Aussie sport media's biggest success stories after securing a high-profile contract extension with Fox Sports' new owners.
Anasta - and his fellow Fox Sports host Matty Johns - have recently signed upgraded deals that will see them through to the end of the 2028 NRL season as streaming giant DAZN makes moves after buying Foxtel.
The global streaming giant's recent purchase marked a huge shake-up in Australian sports media, with the company expected to soon begin negotiations for a broadcast deal with the NRL.
Anasta, who retired from rugby league in 2014, has transitioned seamlessly to working in the media and has become a household name among footy fans.
In 2022, he took over as the host of NRL 360 and ratings have been on the up ever since.
'We didn't realise Braith was going to be this good,' Fox Sports boss Steve Crawley told News Corp.
Anasta has been an NRL 360 host since 2022 and ratings have been on the up
'He's done a remarkable job, and I have a suspicion he's going to continue to get better.'
Anasta's deal is said to be lucrative, but the exact figures remain undisclosed.
'When you put hosts in, sometimes they think they've got to present like the people before them,' Crawley said.
'With Braith, he's got a new way of presenting sport that is very much a 2025 contemporary way.
'They've got to be themselves. His work ethic is unbelievable, and he's world-class.
'We're delighted to have him for another three years.'
Anasta took to social media over the weekend to confirm that he was extending his contract and thank those who have helped him along the way.
'Dream big kiddos, block out the noise, surround yourself with good people and work your f**king ass's off,' he posted.
'Always striving to be the best I can possibly be.
'Thank you to my family, friends, work colleagues and everyone who has and is supporting me along this incredible journey. There is no way in the world I'd be here without every single one of you.'
Beyond his role as a Fox Footy pundit, Anasta also runs the sports management company Searoo, which represents NRL stars including Cameron Munster and Lachlan Ilias.

Carrie Bickmore reveals heartbreaking reason she appeared on The Project after having a miscarriage

Carrie Bickmore has opened up about the devastating moment she suffered a miscarriage and why she appeared on The Project straight afterwards. The TV host, who fronted the now-axed current affairs show for 13 years, invited former co-hosts Waleed Aly, Pete Helliar and Dave Hughes on Hit Network's Carrie and Tommy to discuss some of the show's most memorable moments over the years. During the roundtable discussion, the 44-year-old revealed that she suffered a miscarriage the day Lisa Wilkinson first appeared as a co-host on The Project in 2018. Despite receiving medical advice to skip the episode to get a dilation and curettage, the media personality insisted on filming, concerned what the public might think if she missed Lisa's first stint. 'I sat in front of a doctor - who said I needed to get a D&C - and I remember the words, "I can't because Lisa Wilkinson is making her first appearance on The Project tonight"' she recalled. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. During the roundtable discussion, Carrie revealed that she suffered a miscarriage the day Lisa Wilkinson (left) first appeared as a co-host on The Project in 2018 She went on to say that the repercussions of missing the show felt more overwhelming than the consequences of not getting medical help due to the public's perception of her relationship with Lisa. She said: 'I sat on-air that night knowing I had a baby that had passed away inside of me, as I pretended to be laughing and having a great time… that was the power of the outside world.' Carrie later on confessed that she had the 'most fabulous professional relationship' with the former Today host, but the female duo were constantly depicted as rivals by the media. 'How embarrassing and how ridiculous. I'm mortified that was the sort of decision (I was making) but that's the power of pitting women against each other.' On Friday, an emotional Carrie struggled to hold back tears as she returned to The Project desk for the show's final episode. Carrie joined the current affairs program when it first launched in July 2009, then known as The 7PM Project. Carrie became emotional when discussing the impact the show had on both her career and personal life, particularly the boost it gave her Beanies for Brain Cancer charity. 'I wanted to raise a million dollars and I wouldn't have raised 25 million if it wasn't for you guys at home,' she said tearfully. Carrie joined the current affairs program when it first launched in July 2009, then known as The 7PM Project She then addressed the cast and crew directly, adding that if it wasn't for The Project her fundraising efforts would not have been nearly as successful. 'To this entire we started I just wanted to raise awareness and now we have a brain cancer centre with people on clinical trials,' an emotional Carrie added. Then it was time to close the show, with Waleed offering Carrie his heartfelt thanks for returning to her old stomping ground. 'Thank you for your friendship,' Carrie replied, hinting that most of the tears were shed in the lead-up to the final episode. 'We caught up yesterday and it was so emotional being there - Pete [Helliar], you and everyone backstage,' she said, with tears beginning to well in her eyes. 'I've literally got friends for life from this show,' she added. 'It had such an impact on me personally and professionally. The final episode was essentially a best-of compilation, highlighting some of the most memorable moments over its 16-year history. A raft of celebrities, including Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Robert Irwin, Jessica Mauboy and Kathy Lette, also chimed in to offer their fond farewells.

Footy cult hero reveals he is set to undergo surgery after suffering freak accident at home

Essendon legend Gary Moorcroft has revealed that he is set to undergo surgery after he fell while carrying out some renovations at home and painfully fractured his cheekbone. The 49-year-old, who hung up his boots back in 2003, took to social media to publish a picture of his head scans, which showed a large crack below his left eye socket. The footy star had fallen through some flooring at his home and landed face-first on a timber joist. 'Well it's definitely been an eventful few days!' he wrote, adding a picture of him lying in bed with a black eye. 'Had a fall doing some renovations at home. 'Fell through the flooring insulation and went cheekbone first into the timber joist. Moorcroft explained he'll now need surgery to have metal plates and screws inserted into his cheek. He also published a picture of his scans 'Unfortunately, I came off second best. Three fractures and a depressed cheekbone. 'Surgery booked to have three plates and screws put in. 'Thank you to Belinda and my two perfect kids and their partners for looking after me.' Moorcroft is renowned for winning the AFL's Mark of the Year back in 2001, taking an outstanding flying speccy during the Bomber's Round 14 victory against the Western Bulldogs. The catch is regarded by many as one of the best grabs the game has ever seen, with Moorcroft rising high above Doggies forward Brad Johnson to pluck the footy out of the air. He'd go on to make 95 appearances for the Bombers, returning 102 goals, before he was delisted by the club in 2002. Moorcroft would join up with Melbourne the following season, but his year was cut short, after he sustained a horror knee injury. After nine years playing in footy's top-flight, he'd go on to join up with several local footy clubs, including Bendigo Bombers and Silvan FC in the Yarra Valley Mountain Football League. Moorcroft continued playing well into his 40s, notably joining up with South Morang for the 2023 season.

Beauty & The Geek star's shock transformation from reality TV glam to shaven-headed suspect in boyfriend's decapitation

A FORMER reality TV star charged with the murder of her partner was acting strangely in the weeks beforehand, locals say. Bizarre videos of Tamika Chesser, known from Beauty and the Geek, have surfaced - as cops search for the missing head of Julian Story, allegedly decapitated by her on June 17 in southern Australia. 5 5 5 Police allege Tamika, 34, murdered and dismembered Julian, 39, on the bathroom floor of his home in Port Lincoln. She then allegedly disposed of the victim's head, carrying it in a bag and dumping it in an unknown location. Tamika was arrested at the scene and charged with murder two days later. Police and emergency services are scouring cliffs and waters off the Eyre Peninsula for the missing head, Daily Mail Australia reports. Bizarre CCTV released by police - along with videos filmed by locals - shows Tamika acting strangely in the weeks leading up to the murder. Footage obtained by Channel 7 shows her at a Port Lincoln hotel wearing a long dark wig and a hat before ripping it off and screaming. Two locals told Daily Mail Australia they'd only ever seen Tamika with a shaved head since she arrived in town months ago. In another video, she is seen doing gymnastics on bars outside a coffee shop. In a third video, Tamika is seen wearing a wedding veil and standing bare-chested at the Port Lincoln War Memorial. Police earlier circulated CCTV footage and photographs of a woman, which they claim is Tamika Chesser, strolling through Port Lincoln hours after the alleged murder. Beauty & The Geek star, 34, pictured 'topless in wedding veil' in strange stunt days before arrest over partner's murder Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke told reporters last week: 'While I won't provide any further detail about that at this time, I can tragically say that we have not recovered the head of Julian Story. 'I can only imagine, and I want you to imagine, the grief this news is causing Julian's family. 'Recovering Julian's head to return it to his family so they can have a peaceful outcome, have a funeral and lay him to rest is a really important aspect for us.' Supt Fielke added: 'I'm appealing to local residents to review CCTV or dash cam footage which they may have, which may assist the investigation.' 5 Court documents earlier revealed officers found Tamika sitting in the back garden of the property 'in a catatonic and unresponsive state' before her arrest. She was also charged with disposing of human remains to pervert the course of justice and assaulting a police officer, The Telegraph reports. Police have so far not been able to find a motive, with Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott admitting there were still 'a lot of unanswered questions' in what he described as a complex crime scene. A suppression order protecting Tamika's identity and banning publication of the alleged circumstances of Julian's death was lifted on Friday. The ex-reality star, who appeared via video link, has been denied bail and remains under a mental health detention order ahead of a committal hearing set for December. Tamika's sister, Kiya-May, claimed her family is devastated by reports she'd been charged with murder. She told Daily Mail Australia: 'Please report how my sister is in a mental psychosis... This is not her... She would never do these things.' She added her sister had suffered 'a life of trauma and abuse, and now this – it has fried her brain'. Meanwhile, Julian's grieving family has thanked police, emergency workers and the community for their support during what they called an 'unimaginable loss'. 'Your care has brought comfort amid the chaos,' they said.
