Efforts may fail but not prayers, says DKS on his CM ambition

Joined by family on Ashada Friday, widely considered auspicious, Shivakumar offered puja to the deity and underlined his faith in divine intervention. "I prayed to the Goddess for what I want," he told reporters, but refused to discuss his long-rumoured chief ministerial ambitions.
"I don't want to discuss anything now. I have not come here to speak about politics. I want good for the state. Mallikarjun Kharge is Congress president; he has given us a message and advice.
Abiding by his words, let's all work together," Shivakumar said, stressing the importance of party unity.

Shivakumar's remarks follow Siddaramaiah's declaration earlier this week that he will serve a full five-year term as CM — remarks which Shivakumar endorsed —effectively shelving any mid-term rotation plan.
Asked if he had relinquished his dream of becoming CM, Shivakumar reiterated his reliance on prayer: "Even if attempts fail, prayers to the goddess never fail."

Echoing this tone of solidarity, agriculture minister N Cheluvarayaswamy, who also performed puja at the hilltop temple, said, "No weapon against the unity of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will succeed. They cannot be divided by any conspiracy and their unity will remain for five years."
Cheluvarayaswamy briefly turned to Centre-state relations, urging Union minister HD Kumaraswamy to partner with cabinet colleague Pralhad Joshi to secure outstanding tax dues for Karnataka.
"MPs have access to a Rs 5 crore annual fund — far exceeding Kumaraswamy's recently announced Rs 30 lakh grant for an auto stand," he said, while appealing for bigger central assistance.
Earlier this week, Shivakumar's brother and former Bangalore Rural MP, DK Suresh said there is still "hope" his brother would become CM. He said that while the CM's post is not vacant now, "hope still exists and will remain tomorrow too" that Shivakumar would be CM.

Will look into import protection for Kashmir apple growers: Piyush Goyal
Union Commerce and Industries minister Piyush Goyal said Sunday that the central government will look into demands of Kashmiri apple growers for greater protection against imports. Goyal was addressing a trade conclave organised by the Federation of Trade and Industry of India (FTII) in Srinagar. The conclave was also attended by J&K Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana and chairman of National Trade Welfare Board Sunil Singh. Goyal said he will 'talk to the agriculture ministry' on the demands of the apple growers. He said that the stakeholders of the apple industry have requested for protection of the apple fruit from the imports. 'The industry has requested for more protection on this fruit, which at present attracts a minimum import price (MIP) Rs 50 per Kg and 50 per cent import duty,' Goyal said. He said that after factoring in all the costs, the consumers pay Rs 125 to Rs 150 per kilogram. He said there is a need to balance the interests of the growers and consumers. While the apple produce from Kashmir and Himachal is supplied to different parts of the country, India still imports around six lakh tonnes of apple to meet shortages. On a suggestion from the union territory's handicrafts industry to reduce the GST from 12 percent to 5 percent, Goyal said he would take up the issue. 'I will see how to bring it in the 5 per cent bracket,' he said. 'But we will try to find a solution'. On the Pahalgam terror attack, Goyal said that the people of Kashmir had given 'a befitting reply to the terrorists'.

MPCC vice-president slams Biren, accuses him of ‘misleading people'
1 2 Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee ( MPCC ) vice-president Hareshwar Goswami has termed the statement of former chief minister N Biren Singh regarding his hope of bringing a popular govt in Manipur soon as 'misleading the people'. Making a scathing attack on Singh, the MPCC vice-president accused him of repeatedly misleading the people and distorting facts for political gain. Goswami made the remarks during a press conference on Sunday while defending the Congress against allegations made by BJP leaders regarding the imposition of Emergency in 1975. Referring to Singh's recent comment that a "popular govt will soon return to Manipur," Goswami criticised the statement as hypocritical and disconnected from the prevailing crisis in the state. Goswami said the current chaos is the result of the BJP-led administration's failure to ensure peace, governance and unity. He also defended the national Emergency declared by the then Congress Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977, calling it a constitutional decision taken under Article 352 of the Indian Constitution. The MPCC vice-president also reminded that this was the third national Emergency after the one imposed in 1962 during the India-China war and the first internal emergency declared in 1975 due to grave threats to national security, internal stability and economic crisis. Goswami argued that the emergency was declared under constitutional provisions with due process and was justified in the context of the times, unlike the present situation where, according to him, the Centre has failed to respond adequately to one of the worst humanitarian crises in Manipur's recent history. Without sparing the central BJP leadership, Goswami also accused PM Narendra Modi of lacking empathy and compassion. "While Manipur bleeds, the Prime Minister finds time to travel around the world," he said. Further, Goswami accused the Union home minister Amit Shah of lying to the public, regarding the promises of peace and reconciliation in Manipur. "Amit Shah came to Manipur and left with a promise that peace will return within 15 days. It's been more than 2 years now. Where is his promise?" he questioned. Goswami asked the people to see through the alleged falsehoods of the BJP and urged collective efforts to restore democracy, unity, and a government that genuinely represents the people's will.
