UNC football flips 4-star class of 2026 recruit from SEC program
The Tar Heels earned a major football recruiting victory on Friday afternoon. The North Carolina Tar Heels, exactly a month away from the start of their highly-anticipated 2025 football season, continue to make positive impacts in their 2026 recruiting class. This time, UNC's latest addition involves stealing a talented recruit from a regional SEC program. On Friday afternoon, class of 2026 tight end Carson Sneed flipped his commitment from Tennessee to North Carolina. Sneed's flip now gives the Tar Heels 35 commitments in their next recruiting class, which ranks nationally and continues to grow. The 247Sports Composite rankings tab Sneed, a 4-star recruit, the 13th-ranked player from Tennessee, 18th-ranked tight end overall and 404th player nationally. Sneed is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Dayton, who transferred to North Carolina in April – from the Volunteers. UNC currently lacks a true number one tight end on its roster, but former Texas A&M transfer Jake Johnson is poised to be the top 2025 guy in Chapel Hill. Outside of Johnson, collegiate experience drops off, but Arkansas transfer Shamar Easter was amongst the 2023 recruiting class' top-ranked players. Currently a 2-way player at Donelson Christian Academy in Nashville, Sneed is coming off a junior season in which he caught 33 passes, adding 409 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, Sneed recorded 44 tackles, 10 TFLs, three sacks and an interception. With Bill Belichick now leading the Tar Heels, recruits want to play in Chapel Hill. Remember when North Carolina flipped a previous 4-star recruit from an SEC program (hint, he now plays for the New England Patriots)? Former Georgia RB Kenny McIntosh lands on IR with torn ACL
A former Georgia Bulldog running back has suffered a major injury. Seattle Seahawks running back Kenny McIntosh was feared to have suffered a torn ACL in camp on Saturday, according to Adam Schefter. It was confirmed, as McIntosh would need surgery on it on Tuesday. He was placed on injured reserve (IR) and is expected to miss the 2025 regular season, Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald confirmed McIntosh's serious injury to the press. 'It's obviously really unfortunate. We love Kenny,' Macdonald said. 'But it's an ACL. What he needs from us is our support, our prayers. It's going to be a tough road, but he's the man for the job. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, but he's going to need our help.' It's unfortunate for McIntosh, who was trying to compete with rookie Damien Martinez and second-year player George Holani to be the third running back behind Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. As a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, McIntosh didn't get much playing time in 2023, but in 2024, he was saw much more action, rushing for 172 yards on 31 carries. He also caught three passes for 22 yards. Before his NFL career, McIntosh was a critical part in Georgia's elite rushing attack from 2019-22. McIntosh totaled 1,582 yards and 16 touchdowns in his Georgia career. He led all Georgia running backs in yards (829) and touchdowns (10) in 2022, his senior season. It's yet another case of injuries hampering the NFL career of a Georgia running back. Former Georgia running back Nick Chubb suffered a foot injury in 2024, a year after suffering a torn ACL and MCL. The injuries left his NFL future in doubt, and even though he signed with the Houston Texans on June 16, his starting role is no longer guaranteed. The same can be said for Todd Gurley. Early on in his career, Gurley won the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. However, knee injuries leading up to the 2019 Super Bowl caused Gurley's usage to decline, and in 2022, he was done playing football. McIntosh will look to return from his injury in 2026. The Seahawks RB is set to have surgery on Aug. 12 in Dallas, Texas.

Pair of Oklahoma Sooners named to Butkus Award watch list
The Oklahoma Sooners have a defense that is ready to contend in the SEC. It's a group full of blue-chip players at every level of the defense. Although the Sooners will be replacing star linebacker Danny Stutsman, they've got a good group of linebackers that have been in Brent Venables ' program for several years now. On Wednesday, a pair of Sooners were named to the Butkus Award watch list: Kip Lewis and Sammy Omosigho. The Butkus Award is given to college football's top linebacker. Lewis was also named to the Nagurski Trophy watch list earlier this week. He's going into his fourth season with the Sooners and has become one of the best players on the defense over the last several years with his penchant for big plays. Lewis' speed and athleticism have made him a nightmare in coverage. In 2024, Lewis returned an interception for a touchdown in Oklahoma's wins over Auburn and Alabama. Lewis finished last season with 65 total tackles and four tackles for loss. Omosigho is every bit the athlete that Lewis is. The former four-star prospect is in a camp battle with fellow former four-star Kobie McKinzie. Omosigho saw 301 snaps last season and was fifth on the team with 39 total tackles. He also had five tackles for loss, a pass defensed, and a forced fumble in a rotational role for the Sooners. Oklahoma has taken home the Butkus Award four times. Brian Bosworth, the only two-time winner of the award, earned the honor back in 1985 and 1986. Rocky Calmus won the Butkus in 2001 and Teddy Lehman won it in 2003.
