Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has rejected political cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming 17th Sabah State Election. PBS Acting President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the decision was made after the majority of the party's Supreme Council (AMT) members disagreed with collaborating with BN in the coming state election. Joachim said PBS also reiterated its stance to remain loyal to the ruling coalition, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), for the coming polls. 'Our position is clear. PBS will continue working within the GRS coalition and remains committed to this political cooperation ahead of the state election. 'PBS also reaffirms its commitment to strengthening ties and collaboration with GRS component party Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah), led by Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan,' he said in a statement, Thursday. The current five-year term of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly will expire on Nov 11. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? At least six wounded in large-scale Russian air attack on Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities say

REUTERS/Alina Smutko TPX IMAGES OF THE DAY KYIV (Reuters) -Russia used hundreds of drones, cruise and ballistic missiles to attack western, southern and central Ukraine overnight, damaging homes and infrastructure and injuring at least six people, local authorities said on Sunday. Ukraine lost its third F-16 fighter jet since the start of the war while repelling the attack, the military said. The sounds of explosions were heard in Lviv, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Cherkasy regions, regional governors said. The Ukrainian military said some 500 different types of aerial weapons were used during the attack, including drones, ballistic and cruise missiles. "To repel the massive attack, all available means of the defence forces that can operate on enemy air assets were deployed," the military said. The pilot of the Ukrainian F-16 jet did everything he could and flew the jet away from a settlement but did not have time to eject, the Ukrainian Air Force said. "The pilot used all of his onboard weapons and shot down seven air targets. While shooting down the last one, his aircraft was damaged and began to lose altitude," the Air Force said on the Telegram messenger. The military said Russia had launched 477 drones and 60 missiles of various types to Ukraine overnight while Ukrainian forces destroyed 211 drones and 38 missiles. It said 225 drones were lost - in reference to the Ukrainian military using electronic warfare to redirect them - or they were drone simulators that did not carry warheads. It said air strikes were recorded in six locations. INFRASTRUCTURE, HOMES Six people, including one child, were injured in the central Cherkasy region, the governor Ihor Taburets said on the Telegram messenger. Three multi-storey buildings and a college were damaged in the attack, he said. Industrial facilities were hit in the southern Ukrainian Mykolaiv and central Dnipropetrovsk regions, officials say. Local authorities published photos of multi-storey houses with charred walls and broken windows and rescuers evacuating residents. The governor of the Lviv region in the west of the country said the attack targeted critical infrastructure. However, he did not report on the aftermath. Kampung Iban Merotai land approval not election gimmick

Published on: Sunday, June 29, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 29, 2025 Text Size: TAWAU: The declaration of reserve land for Kampung Iban Merotai is not a political promise, but a long-overdue move approved even before the upcoming state election, said Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah. Speaking at the Gawai Day celebration in the village yesterday, the Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President stressed that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, had delivered on a 50-year wait within just three months. 'This isn't an empty promise. After 50 years, the villagers finally received legal land approval. This is a legacy they can pass on for generations,' Liew said. He urged villagers to support the government in the coming polls and dismissed claims that the land approval was an election ploy. 'The land now belongs to the people of Kampung Iban, permanently. Don't be swayed by political slander,' he added, promising to upgrade the village hall into a multipurpose centre if given the mandate. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? PBS honours 13 loyal members in Kota Belud

Published on: Sunday, June 29, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 29, 2025 Text Size: KOTA BELUD: Thirteen long-time Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) members, loyal since 1985, were honoured at a brief ceremony during the launch of the Tambulion polling district machinery in Kampung Sorob. The members, identified by the local committee, received certificates and T-shirts presented by PBS Kadamaian Chief Demis Rumanti. Among them were Michael Tinggiu, Cowboy Mialah, and Raisah Latip. PBS Deputy Chief for Kadamaian, Walter Kandayon, said the recognition was to honour members who remained steadfast through political turbulence. 'They are the party's most valuable asset. Loyal, unwavering, and not motivated by rewards,' he said, noting loyalty as a foundation of PBS's strength since 1985. Michael Tinggiu said they remained loyal because PBS is multiracial and consistently defends Sabah's rights. 'We stayed even after PBS fell in 1994 due to betrayal by some assemblymen,' he said. The event aimed to inspire younger members and called for more formal recognition programs in future. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
