Stormers bullied by physical Glasgow, says Dobson
In the aftermath of a devastating loss at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday, a perplexed Dobson said he did not know how his team would be able to fix their inability to dominate the gain line.
The victory kept Glasgow's hopes of lifting back-to-back URC titles alive after they beat the Bulls 21-16 in the 2024 final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
'We were bullied physically, everything went wrong, and they put us under pressure,' Dobson said.
'To get so well beaten is disappointing and it was probably our worst game of the season. Things such as the line-outs and technical stuff we can fix and we also lost the technical battle and we can work on that.

'That bravery to keep pushing the boundary – that was class.' Nomlomo expressed particular pride in his team's first-half performance, which saw them lead 38-16 at the break. 'We were clinical,' he stated. 'That's where everything started. I think when you're up against the blue machine and it's going like that, it is a bit difficult to play against. Province were incredibly gutsy, but their discipline didn't help them at all and probably killed the game for them.' The home team suffered three first-half sin-bins, with captain Zain Davids and locks Gary Porter and Alex Groves all receiving yellow cards for breakdown infringements. At one point, Western Province struggled to scrummage due to a lack of locks on the field. Emirates ended its 10-year sponsorship of the Johannesburg-based franchise at the end of June, having informed the Lions late last year that the agreement would not be renewed. 'We are negotiating with a few large overseas companies,' Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli told Rapport. 'What makes things a bit more difficult now is the European holiday period. 'Like last year, Fidelity ADT is the main sponsor of our Currie Cup team. We've also added one or two smaller sponsors to the mix. But we are still in talks with potential major sponsors – international companies – which unfortunately takes more time.' Pieter Burger, managing director of Ellis Park, had previously told Rapport that the Lions were in contact with about six prospective sponsors regarding the naming rights for both the stadium and the team. Star-studded Bulls see off brave Western Province in Currie Cup clash
Bulls Currie Cup coach Phiwe Nomlomo will be happy with their start to the season following their win over Western Province. The Bulls put in a workmanlike performance to beat a brave Western Province team 48-23 in a Currie Cup match in Cape Town on Saturday evening. Bulls coach Phiwe Nomlomo's side came into the match as heavy favourites after selecting a very strong team filled with a lot of quality and experience. While most of their United Rugby Championship players are resting or with the Springboks, they still managed to field seasoned pros such as Marvin Orie, Boeta Chamberlain and Sintu Manjezi. Province, on the other hand, fielded seven debutants in their run-on team, including a few Blitzboks, who have been roped in to bolster their squad in the absence of their Stormers and Springbok players. And it was clear from the first minute that Province were going to be under the pump, especially at set-piece time. The Bulls scored five of their six tries in the first half, dominating the collisions and getting penalties as Province tried to stop the bleeding.
