CM seeks Central funds to develop sports infra in TG
During a meeting with the Union Minister at the latter's official residence in Delhi on Monday, Revanth Reddy explained to him the requirement of funds for the development of sports infrastructure, training of athletes, selection of sports experts and other programmes under Khelo India.
The CM said that Rs 100 crore would be needed to develop sport infrastructure, mainly the construction of synthetic athletic track and multipurpose indoor stadium in Bhuvanagiri, swimming pool in Rayagiri, synthetic athletic track in Palamuru University, Mahbubnagar, multipurpose hall in Satavahana University, Karimnagar.
He also said that funds are needed for archery range and synthetic hockey field in Hakimpet, Hyderabad; squash court, natural football field development and synthetic track in LB Stadium; renovation of hockey ground in Gachibowli and synthetic athletic track in Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda.
Revanth Reddy also informed the Union Minister that the state government was already making every effort to improve sports facilities and requested adequate cooperation from the Centre. He appealed to the Union Minister to organize at least two events in the Olympics to be held in the country in 2036 in Telangana and provide fare concession in train travel to the sports persons who participated in national level games in the past.

India targets $300 bn bioeconomy by 2030
New Delhi: The government is committed to realising a $300 billion bioeconomy by 2030, reiterated Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh on World Bioproduct Day on Monday. Calling for a wider public understanding and inclusive participation in India's biotechnology mission, Singh stated that every Indian was a stakeholder in the country's bioeconomy. The biotechnology ecosystem in the country 'has grown from just around 50 startups a decade ago to nearly 11,000 today -- a leap made possible by policy backing and institutional partnerships,' said Singh, while speaking at an event, organised by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and its agencies BIRAC and iBRIC+. Referring to the recently launched BioE3 Policy, Singh noted that it laid the groundwork for India to lead in sustainable biomanufacturing by aligning bioeconomy goals with environmental sustainability, economic growth, and equity. The BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) Policy aims to position India as a global leader in bio-based innovations. 'Bioproducts aren't limited to laboratories anymore. They're about livelihoods -- from biodegradable packaging to eco-friendly personal care, from rural employment to green jobs,' he said. He emphasised that the future industrial revolution will be driven by bioeconomy, and India, he believes, has taken the lead. Further, acknowledging the challenges faced by young scholars in biotech, the Minister pointed out the mismatch between parental expectations and individual aptitude in career choices. He termed the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 a 'game-changer' that would allow students to pursue disciplines of interest with flexibility. 'We are seeing a new generation with real aptitude and capacity to learn,' he said. Singh also urged for stronger social media outreach, using success stories, local languages, and relatable formats to communicate biotech's relevance to common citizens. 'If we want to attract young talent, we must link biotechnology to profitability and livelihood, not just academics,' he said. Meanwhile, Secretary, DBT and Chairman of BIRAC, Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale outlined steps being taken to operationalise the BioE3 Policy in the country. These include 'support for pilot manufacturing, region-specific innovation missions, and strengthening the pipeline from research to market,' Gokhale said.

BJP MLA writes to Amit Shah seeking temporary ban on meat, liquor shops
New Delhi: Delhi BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting him to temporarily shut all liquor and meat shops on the routes of Kanwar Yatra, scheduled to begin later this month. Marwah, one of the three Sikh MLAs of the BJP in Delhi, stated in his letter that a temporary ban on liquor and meat shops will ensure the piety of the Kanwar Yatra and prevent any possible untoward incident. During the Hindu calendar's holy month of 'Sawan', devotees undertake Kanwar Yatra on foot, carrying water from holy rivers to offer it to Lord Shiva at various temples. This year, the Kanwar Yatra will begin on July 11. Marwah, a member of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, said the Sri Guru Singh Sabha is a religious body that honours all religions. 'We appeal that meat and liquor shops on the designated routes of the Kanwar Yatra are temporarily shut down so that its sanctity is maintained and there are no untoward incidents,' the MLA wrote to Shah. He sought time for a meeting between the office bearers of Sri Guru Singh Sabha and Shah, so that they could submit a memorandum to Shah. Marwah also said that the members of Sri Guru Singh Sabha will approach the owners of meat and liquor shops, urging them to respect the religious sentiments of the devotees. Drinking water, medicines and resting camps will also be arranged by the Gurudwaras for the kanwariyas, he said.
