PhoneArena Poll Wars: Choose your favorite software

Phone Arena6 days ago
Debating about the best things in the smartphone world is part of PhoneArena's daily life. We know that's a big part of your life, too. So, we give you another chance to solve some of the debates by simply voting in our Poll Wards.
You have a week to choose your favorite software features and apps. Please, keep it civil in the comments, and share all your opinions and preferences.
Apple users are always bragging about how well their phones work, but you might prefer a more customizable option. On the other hand, how different can the different versions of Android really be?
AI is all the rage right now, and all new phones have some version of it. However, there are enough apps that aren't integrated into the OS but still do a great job competing with whatever the phone manufacturers offer their users. Some would even say they're better, but that's for you to choose with your vote.
Apple users in Europe are now able to choose alternative app stores, which doesn't mean they would want to. The same goes for Android users, who have always had many options for where to source their apps but might feel the PlayStore is more than enough.
Many US users consider iMessage the only reason to stay with their iPhone, while overseas, people chat on many other apps. However, we'd like to know which app is the most important and hopefully delete all the rest.
Music streaming is a sensitive topic for a lot of people. Some have strong opinions about specific features of the recommendation algorithm of their favorite service, while others despise the mixing of music with things like podcasts and videos. That's why choosing a music streaming service is often seen not as a way to play songs but as a representation of a personal philosophy. You must select very carefully. New Galaxy Watch 8 series leak reveals Samsung's most customizable faces yet

According to a recent APK teardown of the Galaxy Watch 7 Manager app, several unreleased watch face assets were uncovered, offering an early look at the designs Samsung is preparing for its next-generation smartwatches. While APK teardowns don't always guarantee final features, the visuals found in this instance closely match those from recently leaked Galaxy Watch 8 promotional renders, making it likely these designs are heading to production. The leak includes seven watch faces, each with a name and, in most cases, Samsung's own descriptive text. Here's the full list so far: Minimal Analog Minimal Digital Sporty Classic Heritage Classic Interactive Number Gradient Info Board Circle Info Board Leaked watch faces in this order: Minimal Analog, Minimal Digital, Sporty Classic, Heritage Classic, Interactive Number, Gradient Info Board, and Circle Info Board. | Images credit — Android Authority Each design presents a different use case or aesthetic. For example, the "Minimal Analog" and "Minimal Digital" watch faces stick to simple, uncluttered layouts. The "Sporty Classic" and "Heritage Classic" are likely aimed at users who prefer traditional styling, while the "Interactive Number" face adds a more playful touch. The two "Info Board" faces — one with a circular layout and the other with a gradient — appear to prioritize data at a glance. Samsung is expected to reveal the Galaxy Watch 8 series during its Unpacked keynote in New York next week. Past leaks have already hinted at updates to the hardware, including a redesigned squircle chassis for the Watch Ultra variant. Combined with these newly discovered watch faces, the Galaxy Watch lineup is shaping up to get both visual and functional upgrades. While it's always possible that not all features uncovered in software teardowns make it to final release, the presence of these faces in official app resources suggests a high likelihood they will be part of the Galaxy Watch 8 's software at launch. However, with less than a week to go, we won't have to wait long to confirm what's coming. And if this leak is any indication, Samsung is giving users more ways to make their smartwatch feel personal right from the start. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Nothing Phone (3) hands-on

Nothing has a new flagship phone - say hello to the Nothing Phone (3). The freshly announced Phone (3) arrives nearly two years after the Phone (2), and there are plenty of differentiating factors between the two. Let's start with the back, since it's always been a key area on Nothing devices. Phone (3) brings a polarizing look, to say the least. Nothing went with a three-column grid look with an off-centered periscope zoom camera sticking out on the top-right corner. It's different from what we've seen on past devices from the brand and it certainly stands out from the crowd of competitors. Nothing Phone (3) and its Glyph Matrix The big addition this year is the Glyph Matrix. The signature Nothing Phone glyph interface is now shrunk to a monochrome display made up of 489 LEDs. It does more than just notifications as you can assign custom images, animations and app-specific messages. There's even a pair of games - Spin the Bottle, Rock Paper Scissors and Magic 8 Ball. Nothing is releasing its developer SDK today so we'll see even more clever ideas here. There's a dedicated Glyph Button – a capacitive circle located beneath the Glyph Matrix. It gives off a vibration and allows you to scroll through the different modes and features. Moving on, Nothing upgraded the cameras, bringing four 50MP shooters. The back houses a 1/1.3" main sensor with OIS alongside a 3x periscope zoom module and a 114˚ ultrawide lens. You also get a 50MP selfie cam. The front is dominated by a 6.67-inch AMOLED – same size as the Phone (2) but with slimmer bezels. It's advertised to reach 4,500 nits of peak local brightness and features FHD+ resolution, along with an adaptive 30-120Hz refresh rate. The hardware feels familiar to past Nothing phones. The frame is made from aluminum, the back features Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, while the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. Also noteworthy is the upgraded IP68 ingress protection, which is a first for any Nothing phone. Nothing Phone (3) A few quick words on the software. We're running Nothing OS 3.5 based on Android 15. It's as smooth and minimalistic-looking as ever, and Nothing confirmed we'll see Nothing OS 4 later this quarter. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and 5,150 mAh silicon carbon battery are worthy upgrades over the Phone (2) and should deliver ample performance and hopefully better endurance. As usual, we'll bring you a detailed review with all of our tests once we have our review unit back at HQ.

Amazon Prime members can already save a record $35 on the 2024 Echo Spot with Alexa

Is the 2024-released Echo Spot the absolute best smart speaker one can buy in the US right now? Probably almost definitely not, but if you can't afford the gargantuan Echo Show 15 or Echo Show 21 or even the mid-range (and mid-sized) Echo Show 8, this might be the Alexa-enabled device to get ahead of next week's Amazon Prime Day 2025 festival. Of course, you could also consider the dirt-cheap Echo Pop or Echo Dot, but the Echo Spot is clearly the more versatile and functional product, with not just a 1.73-inch front-firing speaker on deck promising to deliver "big vibrant sound", but also a 2.83-inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels for showing stuff like the time of day, key weather information, and song titles at a glance. 2024 Release, Smart Alarm Clock with 1.73-Inch Front-Firing Speaker, 2.83-Inch Touchscreen with 320 x 240 Pixel Resolution and Half-Circle Tinted Cover Glass, 1GB RAM, 8GB Storage, Alexa Assistance, Three Color Options, Amazon Prime Membership Required Buy at Amazon This is basically the Echo Show 5's even smaller (and cheaper) brother, normally costing $79.99 and currently setting you back 35 bucks less than that in your choice of three colorways: black, glacier white, or ocean blue. If this discount happens to feel familiar, that might be because it's the exact same one that Amazon offered when the second-gen Echo Spot first saw daylight last year... and again around Black Friday 2024. But that was the last time we saw this bad boy sold at a whopping 44 percent markdown, which makes this early Prime Day 2025 promotion pretty special. Almost as special as the Fire Max 11 and Fire HD 10 Prime-exclusive deals I told you about earlier today. Yes, you need an Amazon Prime membership to claim this cool new Echo Spot offer as well, and yes, I do expect the $35 price cut to remain valid between July 8 and July 11. The chances of seeing the deal improved anytime soon, however, are virtually nonexistent, so you might as well pull the trigger today if you happen to be in the market for a nice little alarm clock for your bedroom with such smart functionality as setting timers, checking the weather and traffic information, and streaming music using only your voice. The 2024 Echo Spot, remember, is a totally different product from its 2017 predecessor, so you may or may not have to wait another seven years for a sequel. What I can say with almost complete certainty is that a third-gen model will not come out this year, which is yet another reason to consider a purchase at a killer $35 discount right now.
