Balaclava-clad gang try to steal bike before being chased off by staff and customers
A restaurant supervisor has hit out after a balaclava-clad gang attempted to steal her bike while she was working.
Footage captured by a diner at Le Petit Beefbar on George Street in Edinburgh show a group of three thieves attempting to take the bike on Thursday.
Anna Mykhailova, 22, says the group used 'large rocks' in an attempt to smash off the lock before diners and colleagues at the restaurant 'teamed up' against the trio in broad daylight.
Anna said she was "relieved" her bike was not taken but says if the group hadn't acted fast "it could have been gone in minutes".
She told Edinburgh Live: "My colleagues told me not to freak out but when I found out what happened, my face completely changed - I thought it was a joke at first.
"There was three guys trying to steal my bike but a customer was screaming at them and trying to get them off
"Another bartender screamed at them too and told them to leave. Luckily, the bike lock did it's job because they had a rock with them and started smashing it but they couldn't get it off.
" The police were there within five minutes. The group was three males in balaclavas and all of them were on the same moped."

Anna said she paid a lot of money for the bike after saving up for over a year and it is her main commute to work.
She added: "It was a relief when everything was fine in the end but it could have been gone in two minutes.
"I had only had the bike for one year and I saved money for a while to get this specific one because I was involved in an accident last year.
"If I didn't have the bike, I don't know what I would do - I would be so devastated if it was taken."
Officers confirmed the incident was reported to them and said their enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.20pm on Thursday, June 19, we received a report of the attempted theft of a motorbike on George Street in Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing."

Man seriously injured in Galashiels assault as police hunt suspect
A 47-year-old man was rushed to Borders General Hospital for treatment after emergency services attended. A man has been left seriously injured following a violent assault in Galashiels with detectives appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to help track down the attacker. The 47-year-old victim was attacked around 5pm on Saturday, July 5, on Melrose Road near the roundabout for Melrose Gait. Emergency services attended and he was rushed to Borders General Hospital for treatment. Police have launched a probe to trace the suspect, who is described as being in his mid to late 30s, around 5ft 9in tall, of slim build, with short brown hair and a Scottish accent. CCTV captures three Edinburgh teen hoods 'attempting to steal' motorbike
Three hooded teens have been caught on CCTV "attempting to steal" a motorbike. CCTV has captured the moment a brazen youth gang 'attempt to steal' a motorbike on a residential Edinburgh street. Shortly after 7pm on Saturday July 5, Three hooded teens were filmed inspecting the bike under a cover on Fernieside Avenue. As they attempt to lift the cover off the bike, another male youth can be seen keeping an eye out while riding an e-scooter as the group attempt to get to the bike right outside the owners' home, reports Edinburgh Live. The youth on the e-scooter, wearing a balaclava, can be seen gesturing to someone further down the street before riding closer to the group as they all quickly disperse. According to Ross Munro, a member of the Stolen Motorbikes Edinburgh group, the youths were deterred by neighbours and the fact the bike was attached to 'heavy duty chains'. Ross and other members of the biker community have recently teamed up in a bid to help police tackle motorbike crime and theft. The group actively report any illegal use of bikes, thefts and attempted thefts, to police. They also regularly patrol areas around the city on the hunt for stolen bikes and 'stash spots' as well as helping to identify those actively involved in motorbike crime. Police Scotland have been contacted for further comment. Yesterday, in a separate incident, we reported that a Scots cafe has been targeted by a gang of youths for the third time in a week after nearby business owners warned they are 'under siege' from feral groups. Last weekend a firework was let off near customers at Sir Walter's Cafe in Princes Street in Edinburgh, exploding near women and young children. Just days later, two female youths were captured breaking open a shutter and raiding the cafe, reports Edinburgh Live. Paulius Bernotas, who owns the business in Princes Street Gardens, raised concerns over an increase in antisocial behaviour from large groups of youths in the area and called on police to carry out regular patrols to deter further offending. On Thursday July 3, several male youths appeared to approach the cafe shortly before midnight and attempted to prize open the same shutter before turning the camera away from them. According to Paulius, more damage was dealt to the unit, but nothing appears to have been taken. Two hooded male youths can be seen approaching the cafe and attempting to pull open the wooden shutter before two females join them. In the background, people can be seen walking along Princes Street, looking towards the group. A hand is then visible as the camera is moved away from them while they allegedly broke the doors open. After being approached about a rise in youth-related incidents within Princes Street Gardens, Sergeant Robert Richardson said officers are currently running a dedicated initiative which involves high-visibility patrols specifically targeting antisocial behaviour on Princes Street and the surrounding area. Paulius previously told how groups regularly make their way around Princes Street Gardens with speakers during the day and approach his cafe and seating area in the afternoon. Despite being asked to leave by staff, groups continue to 'look for a reaction' and vandalise his cafe.
