Abitkar attributes delay in loan waiver to Ladki Bahin scheme; no mention in BJP's poll manifesto, says Save

Kolhapur/Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Two ministers on Saturday made contradictory claims on the possibility of a farm loan waiver in Maharashtra as Mahayuti govt is reeling under pressure from politicians like Prahar Janshakti Party president Bachchu Kadu and Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana chief Raju Shetti.
Health minister Prakash Abitkar (Shiv Sena) said in Kolhapur that a delay in announcing a loan waiver was because of the financial constraints state is facing on account of Ladki Bahin scheme.
"Govt is not deliberately delaying the loan waiver; it is getting delayed," Abitkar, who is also Kolhapur's district guardian minister, said at a gathering of Mahayuti functionaries to discuss the allocation of district planning and development council funds.

t was Devendra Fadnavis who gave an assurance of a loan waiver during the assembly election campaign, Congress MLC Satej Patil said. "Then Ajit Pawar said he was not the one who made the promise. Therefore, we are doubtful about the intentions of govt. As per the assurance to Kadu, a committee to study his demand on farm loan waiver will be set up in 15 days. We demand that the panel be given a timeline to submit its report.
"
Animal husbandry and dairy development minister Atul Save, however, said BJP's poll manifesto never promised a loan waiver to farmers.
"You may check it for yourself. The promises made are being implemented in a phased manner based on priority," the BJP politician said at a press conference in Hingoli. He visited the district as part of an outreach campaign to mark 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led govt at Centre.
Reacting to the statement, the legislative council's leader of opposition, Ambadas Danve, said that the power has gone to the head of BJP and its leadership.
"The farmers will show them their place," he said.
Following Kadu's withdrawal from the hunger strike in Amravati district on Saturday, Shetti announced cancellation of his planned chakka jam (road blockade) across Maharashtra on June 15, which was intended to advocate for a loan waiver.

AIADMK's Anwhar Raajhaa expelled from party, joins DMK

Former AIADMK Minister A. Anwhar Raajhaa, a prominent face of the minorities, was expelled from the party again on Monday (July 21, 2025). He later joined the DMK in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai. In a statement, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami cited the former Minister's 'anti-party activity' as the reason for the disciplinary action. The strongman from Ramanathapuram, who has been critical of Mr. Palaniswami since the party revived poll ties with the BJP, said he was left with no option but to join the DMK to protect Tamil Nadu from various threats, including Hindi imposition and State autonomy, posed by the BJP-led government at the Centre. Addressing reporters in Chennai, Mr. Raajhaa said, 'The BJP's agenda is to destroy the AIADMK first and then fight against the DMK. Not even once has Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Mr. Palaniswami would be the Chief Minister candidate. He had only said that NDA would form the government in Tamil Nadu.' Controversies Mr. Raahjaa was first ousted from the AIADMK in December 2021 on the eve of the meeting of the party's executive. This followed an interview with The Hindu, in which he had said that V.K. Sasikala was no longer a liability. Earlier, he courted controversy after he allegedly spoke in a 'derogatory manner' against Mr. Palaniswami, for which he later apologised. During the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly elections, Mr. Raajhaa was not given a ticket to contest. In August 2023, he returned to the AIADMK. However, the party, which fielded candidates in 34 constituencies, including Ramanathapuram, during the 2024 Lok Sabha poll, did not nominate him again. The AIADMK's candidate P. Jeyaperumal had forfeited the deposit then. (With inputs from PTI)

Lok Sabha adjourned within first 20 minutes: Ruckus in Parliament on first day of Monsoon session; oppn MPs raise slogans

NEW DELHI: Despite calls for government-opposition coordination, the first sitting of the Lok Sabha in the Monsoon Session was adjourned just 20 minutes after it began, amid slogans by opposition MPs demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response to US President Donald Trump's claims of brokering a peace deal between India and Pakistan. Parliament began by paying tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the Air India AI-171 plane crash. However, opposition MPs soon began raising slogans of 'PM Modi jawab do' and demanded an immediate discussion on Operation Sindoor. Speaker Om Birla assured the House that he would allow discussion on the subject after Question Hour, but opposition MPs continued protesting from the well, leading to adjournment until 12 noon. 'You should give notice, and whatever the issue is, it will be discussed after the Question Hour. The House should function on the first day, and there should be a good discussion. I will give proper time and opportunity to every MP,' Birla said. 'The government wants to answer on every issue. The House should function. You have not come here to raise slogans. The House functions as per the rules and regulations. All the issues raised according to the rules will be discussed,' he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Redefine Your Future with a Top Online MBA SRM Online Enquire Now Undo This comes a day after Union minister Kiren Rijiju called for government-opposition coordination to ensure smooth functioning of the session and reiterated that the Centre 'will respond appropriately' if the opposition raises the issue of US President Donald Trump's claims on Operation Sindoor. Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed the media ahead of the session and said the Monsoon Session is an occasion for celebration as a 'Vijayotsav.' The Prime Minister also appreciated the role of all parties in reaching out to the world community and exposing Pakistan as a haven for terror sponsors. The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on Monday and will run till August 21. The session is expected to be stormy, with the opposition's INDIA bloc and the BJP-led government preparing to clash on several issues. The opposition has demanded discussions on the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and what it calls a 'drift' in foreign policy, insisting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should personally respond to these debates.
