No place to sit for Ashwini Choubey at Bihar BJP meet & the Chandigarh dinner that's sending ripples
Senior BJP leader and former Buxar MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey is going through tough times. At the party's state working committee meeting in Patna last week, he walked up to the stage but left after he did not find a place to sit, it is learnt. The meeting, convened to chalk out a strategy for the Bihar polls, was opened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Akhilesh & Jayant no longer friends?
On 1 July, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav received birthday wishes from leaders across party lines, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, Apna Dal (Soneylal) chief Anupriya Patel, and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) president O.P. Rajbhar.
However, conspicuously absent from the list of names was Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary, once a close friend of Akhilesh.
The two fell out after Jayant, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha, walked out of INDIA bloc and joined hands with the BJP, for which he was rewarded with a berth in PM Modi's Council of Ministers.
Akhilesh, SP insiders say, feels betrayed by Jayant. The two have even stopped communicating with each other these past few months. The unease also extended to SP ally Pallavi Patel of Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) who wished Akhilesh a happy birthday, but did not receive a response on 'X'. In contrast, her sister and Union Minister Anupriya Patel, despite being an NDA ally, received an official 'thank you' from the SP handle.
Dinner party sets off speculation
A dinner hosted by Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh at his daughter Arti Rao's official residence in Chandigarh recently has set political circles abuzz in Haryana. The gathering was attended by 12 MLAs, including 11 from the BJP and one from the Congress. They were mostly from the Ahirwal region.
The Congress MLA was Manju Chaudhary from Nangal Chaudhry, who defeated former minister Abhe Singh Yadav, a close aide of former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in the 2024 Assembly elections. Chaudhary had publicly claimed Rao's support during her campaign, as she did in 2019, adding intrigue to her presence.
As the news of the dinner became public, some of these MLAs, including Sunil Sangwan, Mukesh Sharma, Krishan Kumar and Om Prakash Yadav, promptly paid a visit to CM Nayab Singh Saini's residence in Chandigarh. Rao later said his daughter had been allotted an official residence in Chandigarh and he invited people close to him for a dinner to mark the occasion. Rao, whose chief ministerial ambitions remains unfulfilled to this day, has been frequently taking jibes at Khattar, who is now a Union minister, and his successor Saini.

HM Shah to inaugurate BJP's new Kerala HQ today, review poll preparedness
New Delhi: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to embark on a packed one-day visit to Kerala on Saturday, where he will inaugurate the new BJP state headquarters located on K.G. Marar Road in Thiruvananthapuram at 10:30 A.M. and also review poll preparedness for the fast approaching Assembly polls. The ceremony will include the hoisting of the party flag, a tree plantation on the office premises, and the unveiling of a bust of K.G. Marar, the former state BJP President and a prominent figure in the party's Kerala unit. Following the inauguration, at 11:15 A.M., HM Shah will address the 'Viksit Keralam Sammelan,' a ward-level leadership meet of the BJP, at Putharikandam Maidan in Thiruvananthapuram. The event is expected to draw a massive crowd of around 36,000 grassroots leaders from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha districts. Leaders from other districts will join the event virtually, ensuring statewide participation. The gathering is being seen as a major mobilisation effort in preparation for the upcoming local polls. At 2:00 P.M., the Union Home Minister will chair a closed-door meeting with the BJP's state leadership to review election preparedness, organisational strategy, and booth-level planning. The meeting is expected to finalise ground-level action points to strengthen the party's position in the state, where it has been working steadily to expand its footprint. Later in the day, HM Shah will travel to Taliparamba in Kannur district, where he will offer prayers at the revered Rajarajeswara Temple at 4:30 P.M. before departing for New Delhi at 7 P.M. The visit comes at a time when political activities are intensifying in Kerala with the Assembly elections expected to be held next year. The next Kerala Legislative Assembly election is expected to be held in May 2026. This election will be held to elect 140 MLAs to the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. The current tenure of the Kerala government is from May 24, 2021, to May 23, 2026.

Atishi urges CM to pass law to protect old vehicles
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Atishi on Friday wrote to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta urging her to bring a law to protect 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles from being scrapped, warning that the proposed blanket ban would adversely impact at least 60 lakh vehicle owners in the city. In her letter, Atishi said, "Even though the plan that started on July 1 was rolled back after a public backlash, now another deadline of November 1 looms over residents. If implemented, this decision will affect around 20 lakh four-wheelers and 40 lakh two-wheelers in Delhi." She criticised the government's approach, saying that for Delhi's middle-class families, owning a car is an aspirational milestone. "Many people purchase second-hand vehicles or retain older cars for personal and family use. Removing 60 lakh vehicles in one go will severely impact their lives. Affording a new vehicle is not a viable option for most," the AAP leader said. The former CM also questioned the logic of using vehicle age as the sole criterion for scrapping. 'There might be cars that are just 3-4 years old but are polluting, and others that are 10-12 years old but well-maintained. A blanket ban is illogical and only benefits car manufacturers and scrappers,' she said. While acknowledging the need to address pollution, Atishi said that enforcing a blanket ban is not the solution and called for a legislative route instead. She urged the BJP-led Delhi government to convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha to debate and pass a bill protecting end-of-life vehicles.

'When I was offered, I was told maybe you have to attend Parliament for 60–70 days, and the rest of the time you can do your work — which I thought was reasonable. But it's very demanding.' Since taking office, Kangana has seen just one film release, Emergency. Even that was shot and ready for release before July 2024. She has not started work on any other project but is expected to star in her first Hollywood movie soon. Kangana also spoke about the challenges she faces in her 'difficult' constituency, Himachal Pradesh's Mandi. She said that often people come to her with problems she has no control over but she can't help but tell them that she would fix their issues. Kangana had also said, "We are the link between the state and the central government, instrumental in getting projects from the Centre to the state and raising issues and grievances of our constituencies with the Centre," and added, "I have neither any Cabinet nor bureaucracy and can only review the situation with deputy commissioners and give the feedback". Backlash for Kangana Already, Kangana is facing flak for her statements. Himachal Pradesh Minister Jagat Singh Negi on Thursday said that Kangana Ranaut, should immediately resign if she is not happy with her obligations as an MP. The revenue and horticulture minister's attack on Ranaut comes after she said during her visit to the disaster-affected areas of the Mandi district on Sunday: "The relief and restoration work has to be done by the state government, and as an MP, I can only apprise the prime minister and the home minister about the situation and seek liberal assistance." Fifteen people died, five sustained injuries and search operations are underway to trace 27 missing persons who were washed away in 10 cloudbursts, followed by flash floods and a landslide on the night of June 30-July 1 in different parts of the Mandi district.
