"The surrendered cadres belong to different formations of east Bastar division, Partapur area committee and west Bastar division of the Maoists. Of them, Sudru Hemla (33), a member of Bhairamgarh area committee, and Kamli Modiam alias Urmila (36), Partapur area committee member, carried rewards of Rs 5 lakh each on their heads," he said.

With this surrender, 203 Naxalites have so far laid down arms the district, while 90 have been killed and 213 arrested, he said. All the surrendered Naxalites were provided assistance of Rs 50,000 each and will be further rehabilitated as per the government's policy, he said.
In 2024, a total of 792 Naxalites surrendered in Bastar region, comprising seven districts, including Bijapur, as per police.

Gangster Salman, illegal arms supplier arrested in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Two criminals, gangster Salman Khan and his aide Rakesh Kumar, have been arrested in Rajasthan, and a huge cache of illegal arms has been seized from their possession, police said on Wednesday. In a major crackdown on organised crime and the illegal arms trade, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Pratapgarh Police, carried out a successful operation, resulting in the seizure of 14 illegal foreign and indigenous weapons, 1,860 cartridges, and 10 magazines. The arrest and arms seizure exposed a widespread network of illegal arms in the region. Acting on a tip-off, a special team, comprising ASI Shankar Dayal Sharma, Head Constables Suresh Kumar and Kamal Singh, and Constables Naresh Kumar, Ratiram, and Suresh Kumar (driver), was dispatched to Banswara, Pratapgarh, and Chittorgarh. The first breakthrough came on June 28 when Chhoti Sadari Police arrested Rakesh Kumar (48), a resident of Jhalawar, from the Chhoti Sadari–Neemuch road with a pistol in his possession. Rakesh was a crucial link in the arms smuggling chain, and his arrest opened up a new trail. During interrogation, Rakesh disclosed information about another major player in the crime world, Salman Khan (38), a resident of Nagda, Ujjain. Salman, already lodged in Banswara Jail for an extortion case, was taken on a production warrant by the AGTF, and his interrogation revealed startling facts. According to police, Salman's father, Sher Khan Pathan, was a cop. However, Pathan, who also indulged in criminal activities, was killed in a police encounter. Despite having 90 bighas of ancestral land, Salman chose a criminal life and indulged in land grabbing and violence under the guise of property dealing. To escape legal pressure, Salman fled to Dubai using a fake passport. Before leaving, he mortgaged his cache of illegal arms to his associate Mohammad Nawaz from Ratlam for Rs 30 lakh, intending to reclaim it after release. Based on Salman's revelations, the police recovered a significant stockpile of illegal weapons and ammunition from the Chhoti Sadari area. The cache included a 12-bore pump-action gun, a .22 bore rifle, three .22 bore revolvers, one .32 bore automatic Mauser, and eight .32 bore pistols. Additionally, ten empty magazines, two magazine fillers, and a large quantity of cartridges of various bores were also seized. Salman already has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including assault, criminal intimidation, theft, attempt to murder, extortion, Arms Act, and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act violations. Further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the network.

Projects under 15th Finance Commission should be completed on time: Ajit Pawar
Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday directed officials of various departments to ensure a timely and high-quality completion of all projects initiated under the 15th Finance Commission. At the review meeting, Pawar said, 'The state is receiving full support from the central government for these projects. All plans have been designed considering the requirements of the next century. Departments must coordinate closely and ensure that every rupee from the Finance Commission is utilised before the end of the current financial year, and not a single rupee is returned.' He held an extensive review of major projects including creation of artificial coral reefs using the decommissioned INS Guldar near Sindhudurg, along with world-class scuba diving, submarine tourism, and an underwater museum, construction of Unity Mall near the international airport at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, development of the Ram-Kal-Path in Nashik, construction of hostels for working women in Thane, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, and Solapur, conservation of cultural heritage, development of Rewas Redi coastal highway, housing schemes for police personal and projects undertaken by Urban Development, Rural Development, Disaster Management, Public Health. Deputy CM Pawar assured the state government's full support in removing any hurdles but emphasised that all projects must be completed within the timeline and meet high-quality standards. Senior officials from the departments of Finance, Planning, Urban Development, Tourism, Public Health, Forest, and Public Works attended the meeting. Earlier on Monday, Ajit Pawar presented supplementary demands worth Rs 57,509.71 crore for the financial year 2025-26 on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Legislature. This came amid reported constraints over the availability of adequate funds due to the ballooning fiscal and revenue deficits and mounting public debt. Of the Rs 57,509.71 crore, the allocation of Rs 19,183.85 crore has been made for committed expenditure and the balance is to provide funds for various government programmes and also towards the state government's contribution in the implementation of Central government schemes. Deputy CM Pawar, during the budget session held in March this year, had tabled the supplementary demands worth Rs 6,480.20 crore.

Bihar: Massive fire at Patna's Saguna Mor, blaze engulfs upscale restaurant
Patna: A massive fire broke out on Wednesday at Caelium, an upscale restaurant located on the fourth floor of Ashiana Mahendra Enclave Complex in Patna's Saguna Mor area in Bihar, triggering panic in the locality. An official said that the fire started in the restaurant's kitchen and quickly spread across the premises. Fire brigade teams have been rushed to the spot and launched an operation to control the blaze, while restaurant staff also attempted to douse the fire. Sources indicated that some people were trapped inside the restaurant, prompting rescue efforts by authorities and staff. The firefighters managed to evacuate the customers and restaurant staff with the help of local people. A large crowd gathered around the complex as smoke billowed from the building, leading to chaos in the area. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but initial suspicion points towards a possible short circuit. The official said that police have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause. Tensions have also flared at the site as the restaurant owner and staff accused the police of delayed action in extinguishing the fire, leading to a heated scuffle between police personnel, restaurant employees, and bouncers on the road outside the building. A video of a scuffle also surfaced on social media, where some employees and bouncers were allegedly involved in manhandling the police personnel on the road. However, the situation was brought under control after significant effort. The firefighters have used more than 12 fire tenders and a hydraulic machine to reach the fourth floor to douse the flames. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to establish the cause and assess the extent of damage. No immediate information on casualties or injuries has been confirmed. "We will check whether the restaurant owner has maintained the fire norms or not. We are also verifying the fire license,' said an officer of the fire department. Meanwhile, the restaurant owner claimed that assets of more than Rs 30 lakh were gutted in this mishap.
