Truecaller call recording on iPhones to stop from September 30: Here's how to save them now

Indian Express5 hours ago
Truecaller, the popular caller ID and spam blocking app, has announced that the call recording feature on iPhones will be discontinued starting September 30. In a statement to TechCrunch, Truecaller's head of iOS, Nakul Kabra, said that the company took the decision to do away with call recording on iOS as it wants to focus more on other features like Live Caller ID and automatic spam call blocking.
Introduced in June 2023, Truecaller's call recording feature was initially available to paying subscribers on iPhone, but later expanded to the Android version of the app. Since Apple does not allow third-party apps to record calls natively, the company had to resort to using a recording line which merges with calls. According to Kabra, the method not only increased the complexity but also led to a sharp rise in costs.
On X, several Truecaller users shared a notification which said, 'We are discontinuing the Call Recording feature on Truecaller for iPhone.' The pop-up message also asked users who often use the functionality to download their recordings, as everything will be deleted after September 30.
To save your call recordings on iPhone, launch Truecaller on your phone and head over to the Record tab. Now, tap on the Settings icon, click on the option named Storage Preference and change it to iCloud storage.
If the option is disabled, you will need to manually enable it by going to Settings > Your name > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > Turn on Truecaller. In case you want to download specific recordings, head over to the Record tab and swipe left on the recordings you want to save. Now, tap on the Share or Export option, and the app will ask you where you want to save the recording.
Truecaller's decision to discontinue the call recording feature on iPhone comes at a time when Apple has introduced its very own native call recording feature.

Redditor Flies To Vietnam From India, Buys MacBook, Enjoys Vacation, Saves Rs 36,500

A Reddit user is being lauded for their smart financial planning, which helped them not only enjoy an 11-day trip to Vietnam but also purchase a MacBook at a lower price than in India. For years, Apple users in India have had to splurge extra money to buy MacBooks or iPhones due to a mixture of factors like high import fees, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the premium pricing strategy. In the now viral post titled "I flew to Vietnam from India just to buy a MacBook", the user revealed that they had the idea to conduct this experiment, in the hope that they would be able to save some cash. "If you're planning to buy a MacBook or iPhone worth Rs 2 lakh+ in India trust me, it's worth making a short trip to Vietnam. You'll get the device cheaper and squeeze in a mini vacation," wrote the OP in the r/macoffer subreddit. The OP stated they booked the cheapest round-trip flight ticket and headed to Hanoi, where they worked remotely and also enjoyed touring the capital city. The user said they visited over 15 stores in nearby areas to buy the MacBook, whilst offering advice on what to look for when buying the laptop. "Always ask: "Do you provide VAT refund documents for the airport?" Some stores won't. They even helped me carefully open the MacBook to inspect it and resealed it for airport VAT refund smart move!" As per the OP, the MacBook was available for Rs 1.85 lakh in India with card offers but after receiving a VAT refund at the Vietnam airport, the same device cost them only Rs 1.48 lakh -- meaning a saving of Rs 36,500. "Net Savings on MacBook alone: Rs 36,500, So basically, add Rs 5K and you got yourself a brand-new MacBook and a vacation in Vietnam," wrote the user. "Final total I spent: MacBook + 11-day trip total: Rs 2,08,117 (before refund). After tax refund: Rs 1,97,000 approx. So if I deduct the cost of the MacBook alone, my 11-night Vietnam trip was just Rs 48K and that too while working!" See the viral post here: I flew to Vietnam from India just to buy a MacBook by u/Shuict in macoffer 'That's crazy' As the post went viral, garnering thousands of upvotes, the social media users appreciated the pointers provided by the OP, with many planning to embark upon similar trips. "Insightful. This is the kind of posts I am using Reddit for. Planning to buy the upcoming iphone, with a trip to Dubai or Vietnam," said one user while another added: "Dude that's crazy. To the very details you provide, it sounds doable." A third commented: "I have done the same thing around 2 Months ago Went to Vietnam bought MacBook Pro M4, Apple TV & iPhone 16PM." A fourth said: "You could have gotten it even cheaper with a student ID. Just ask some of your relatives for a student ID and you get around 20k off, plus cheaper Apple Care and free AirPods."

Smartphone Revenues Surpass Record Rs 8.7 Lakh Crore In April-June Globally

New Delhi: The smartphone revenues worldwide grew 10 per cent (year-on-year) in the April-June quarter (Q2 2025) to exceed $100 billion (more than Rs 8.7 lakh crore) -- the highest level in a second calendar quarter to date, according to a new report. In contrast, global shipments saw a meagre 3 per cent (on-year) rise during the quarter, according to Counterpoint Research's latest Market Monitor service. Meanwhile, the global average selling price (ASP) also hit a second-quarter peak, rising 7 per cent YoY in Q2 to approach $350. The market witnessed both volume and value growth despite ongoing macroeconomic headwinds in several key regions. Amid the easing out of US tariffs, OEMs benefitted from robust demand for premium devices, especially in developed markets, said senior analyst Shilpi Jain. Premiumisation has accelerated beyond earlier projections, propelled by expanded access to financing options, enhanced trade-in initiatives, and heightened promotional activities – all of which are effectively lowering the barrier to entry for higher-end devices. According to Research Director Jeff Fieldhack, Apple strengthened its lead in revenues driven by strong performance of the 16 series across geographies, benefitting from the broader premiumisation trend. 'Shipments in the US were front-loaded in the quarter due to tariff uncertainties. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16e drove sales in Japan, making it one of the fastest growing regions for Apple. Emerging markets like Middle East Africa, and India continue to show strong growth,' he mentioned. Samsung retained its leadership position in terms of global smartphone shipments in Q2 2025, while its revenue grew 4 per cent YoY. The brand's growth was largely driven by strong demand for its refreshed mid-tier A-series devices across regions, while the Galaxy S25 series, along with the newly added S25 Edge, drove volumes in the premium segment. 'Looking ahead, we expect the premiumisation trend to continue, with revenue growth outpacing volume growth in 2025. Additionally, growing interest in GenAI smartphones and foldable form factors will likely offer significant growth opportunities for the smartphone market,' the report mentioned.
