All-party delegation meets Bahrain's Deputy PM, emphasises India's commitment to combating terrorism

The all-party delegation, led by Baijayant Jay Panda, includes BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, BJP MP Phangnon Konyak, BJP MP Rekha Sharma, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi, BJP MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and former Indian diplomat Harsh Shringla.
Later, the delegation led by Baijayant Panda also held a meeting with Shura Council chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh. During the meeting, the delegation affirmed India's determination to combat terrorism and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Bahrain stated, 'His Excellency MP @BaijintJ Panda headed the parliamentary delegation to meet His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Bahrain @ShuraBahrain, where the delegation affirmed India's determination to combat terrorism and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.'

The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria.
The multi-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.
The seven group of delegations will visit Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Liberia, Congo, Sierra Leone, the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Russia, Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POJK).
The Indian Armed Forces responded effectively to subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. The two countries have reached an understanding to stop military action following a call made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. (ANI)

India, Trinidad and Tobago to boost ties in health, digitalisation, agriculture
New Delhi: India and Trinidad and Tobago agreed to ramp up collaboration in healthcare, digital infrastructure and agriculture as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Trnidadian counterpart Kamla Persad-Bissessar focused on development cooperation as an important pillar in bilateral relations. During their talks late on Friday, the two leaders called for greater cooperation on contemporary challenges such as climate change, disaster management and cyber-security. Modi appreciated Trinidad and Tobago's strong support and solidarity in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. The two leaders agreed to work together for solidarity among the countries of the Global South and to strengthen India-CARICOM partnership, the external affairs ministry said. Modi and Bissessar also decided to build an inclusive and forward-looking partnership in healthcare, information and communication technology, trade, agriculture, legal affairs, skill development and sports, according to a joint statement. 'The two leaders acknowledged the common threat posed by terrorism to peace and security. They reiterated their strong condemnation of and resolute opposition to terrorism. They declared that there could be no justification for terrorism, including cross-border terrorism,' the joint statement said. Both sides emphasised the need for reforms in the UN and Trinidad and Tobago said it will support India's bid for permanent membership of an expanded Security Council. It was also agreed that India will support Trinidad and Tobago's candidature for a non-permanent seat in Security Council for 2027-28, while Trinidad and Tobago will support India's candidature for 2028-29. The two countries signed six agreements, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Indian pharmacopoeia that will allow closer collaboration in pharmaceuticals and provide improved access for Indian products to markets in Trinidad and Tobago. An agreement on Indian grant assistance for quick impact projects will strengthen the development cooperation partnership. The two sides also signed an agreement for cultural exchanges for 2025-2028, and three MoUs for cooperation in sports, diplomatic training, and re-establishment of two Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) chairs in Hindi and Indian studies at the University of West Indies. As part of efforts to expand cooperation in the digital domain, the two sides will explore collaboration in implementing Indian digital public infrastructure solutions, including DigiLocker. Trinidad and Tobago, the first Caribbean country to adopt India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) digital payments platform, sought support in digitization of the state land registration system. The Indian side announced a gift of 2,000 laptops to support Trinidad and Tobago's flagship educational programme, a gift of agro-machinery worth $1 million to bolster food security, and the donation of 20 haemodialysis units and two sea ambulances. Modi also announced a prosthetic limb camp for 800 individuals will be organised in Trinidad and Tobago. Earlier, while addressing the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, Modi said India will work with its partners to give the Global South its 'rightful seat at the right table', create a fairer world order and ensure reforms of global bodies such as the UN. Modi, the first Indian premier to address a joint assembly of the Parliament of the Caribbean nation, described terrorism as the enemy of humanity and said India and Trinidad and Tobago must be united to deny terrorism any space. 'It is time for us to work together, to give the Global South its rightful seat at the right table. To ensure climate justice, so that the burden does not fall on those who have contributed the least to the climate crisis. We consider Trinidad and Tobago an important partner in this endeavour,' Modi said. India's development partnerships too are 'demand-driven, respectful and without conditions', Modi said, in an apparent attempt to differentiate India's role from that of China's Belt and Road Initiative. 'Our vision for such inclusive growth does not stop at our borders. We see our development also as a responsibility towards others. And our priority will always be the Global South,' Modi said. India is deepening its relations with Trinidad and Tobago and will encourage businesses to invest more in the Caribbean nation. 'We are also keen to collaborate on other digital innovations. ‘We came together to stay together': Uddhav Thackeray at first rally with Raj Thackeray in 19 years
At their first joint rally in nearly two decades, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said that he and his cousin Raj Thackeray had ' come together to stay together'. 'We have united to protect Marathi,' Uddhav Thackeray told supporters of his Shiv Sena faction and those of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena at the rally in Mumbai. 'I want to tell you all that us coming together is just a trailer. This is just the beginning.' Uddhav Thackeray expressed confidence that he, along with his cousin, would win the civic body elections in Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra. The civic body elections in Mumbai are expected to take place later this year, while the Assembly elections are scheduled in 2029. The two leaders had announced the joint rally on June 27 to protest against the state government's proposal to teach Hindi as the third language to students from Class 1 to Class 5 in Marathi and English medium schools. However, after the government withdrew the resolution, the two parties decided to hold a joint 'victory rally' on Saturday. In 2005, Raj Thackeray quit the undivided Shiv Sena and formed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena a year later. The Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena have been political rivals for the past two decades. On Saturday, the Uddhav Thackeray chief said that the state government would not be allowed to impose Hindi in Maharashtra, PTI reported. Raj Thackeray claimed that the proposed three-language formula was a 'precursor to its plan' to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra. 'The Maharashtra government rolled back the decision on the three-language formula due to the strong unity shown by Marathi people,' he added. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief also claimed that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had 'managed to do what Balasaheb Thackeray could not – bring myself and Uddhav together'. On June 29, the state government withdrew its resolution to teach Hindi as the third language to students from Class 1 to Class 5. Fadnavis also announced that a new committee had been formed to advise the state on implementing the National Education Policy's three-language formula. This came amid a state-wide row triggered by the Mahayuti government's June 17 order making Hindi a ' generally ' taught third language. The Mahayuti alliance comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction and the Nationalist Congress Party group led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The June 17 order had said that if 20 students per grade in a school wished to study any other Indian language, they can opt out of Hindi. However, he added: '…if someone shows useless drama, you must hit below their eardrums.' 'I tell you one more thing: if you beat someone, don't make a video of the incident,' he said. 'Let the person beaten up tell that he has been beaten up, you don't need to tell everyone that you have beaten someone.' This came after seven persons, believed to be members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, were booked earlier this week for assaulting a shopkeeper in Thane district's Mira Road for not speaking in Marathi. In a police complaint, Babulal Khimji Chaudhary stated that members of the party had come to his sweet shop at 10.30 am on June 29. When a worker in the shop spoke to them in Hindi, they got angry. They allegedly abused the worker for not speaking Marathi. 'Two of the men came to me and again said that I need to know Marathi if I have to work and then assaulted me after an argument,' Chaudhary added. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has been part of a campaign against the implementation of the three-language policy in state schools, alleging it was an attempt to impose Hindi in the Marathi-speaking state. On Saturday, suspected workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena vandalised an office in Mumbai allegedly belonging to an entrepreneur Sushil Kedia a day after he said on social media that he had lived in the city for 30 years without learning Marathi 'properly', The Times of India reported. On Friday, the entrepreneur had issued an apology on social media. Earlier this year, workers of the party had launched a campaign demanding that bank employees in the state speak to customers in Marathi. The campaign has reportedly now been suspended. In April, two women, one of whom was holding a baby, were assaulted in the city of Dombivli in Thane district, allegedly for saying ' excuse me ' instead of speaking in Marathi. Three Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members were booked on April 1 for allegedly slapping a watchman in Mumbai's Powai area for not speaking in Marathi. A similar incident occurred at another bank in the city, where an official was threatened for not speaking in Marathi. In December, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members had slapped a shopkeeper at Girgaon in South Mumbai after he allegedly asked a woman to speak to him in Marwadi instead of Marathi, the Deccan Herald reported.

Nirav Modi's brother Nehal arrested in US on India's extradition request
The younger brother of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi has been arrested in the United States based on extradition requests submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), officials said on Saturday. Nehal Modi, 46, was taken into custody on Friday, US authorities informed Indian officials, according to a report by news agency PTI. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 17, where he is expected to seek bail, a move that US prosecutors will oppose, PTI reported. The extradition request pertains to two charges: one count of money laundering under Section 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, and one count of criminal conspiracy under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The case stems from the massive ₹13,000 crore fraud at Punjab National Bank, one of the biggest in India's banking history. The fraud was allegedly orchestrated by Nirav Modi, Nehal Modi, and their uncle Mehul Choksi. Born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium, Nehal Modi is fluent in English, Gujarati, and Hindi. According to officials cited by PTI, he is wanted in India for laundering proceeds of crime on behalf of Nirav Modi, who is currently lodged in a London prison and fighting extradition to India. Authorities said Nehal Modi helped conceal and transfer large sums of illicit funds through a network of shell companies and offshore transactions. He has been named in a charge sheet filed by the ED and has been accused of destroying evidence and 'knowingly and intentionally' facilitating Nirav Modi's illegal activities, PTI reported. The ED also alleged that following the exposure of the PNB fraud, Nehal and Nirav's top aide Mihir R Bhansali 'took 50 kg gold and substantial cash from Dubai' and instructed dummy directors not to reveal his name to authorities, officials told PTI.
