Texas A&M Faces Setback as star Utility player enters the transfer portal
The transfer portal has struck the Texas A&M softball team once again. This time, however, it involves a major contributor expected to play a key leadership role.
On Friday afternoon, in a shocking announcement, starting utility player Amari Harper entered her name into the softball transfer portal. The junior was a key contributor all season, routinely delivering clutch hits and showing emerging power by knocking out crucial home runs.
While the Aggies have a deep roster and should be able to fill the void, Harper's departure is still a significant loss, especially if head coach Trisha Ford can't find a way to bring her back next season.
Every athlete has their reasons for entering the portal, and even though this move is surprising, players must do what they believe is best for their future. Entering the portal doesn't necessarily mean Harper is leaving, but in today's NIL landscape, anything is possible.

Former Iowa women's basketball player lands first coaching job

Following a four-year career mostly in a reserve role for the Iowa women's basketball program, former Hawkeyes forward/center AJ Ediger is now listed as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UW-Milwaukee) Panthers women's basketball squad. The 6-foot-2, native of Hudsonville, Michigan played a total of 68 games for the Hawkeyes from 2021 to 2025, where she averaged just 1.7 points on 57.6% from the floor and 65.5% from the free-throw line to go along with 1.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.1 steals in 3:49 of action per game. Ediger would also finish her Hawkeyes career with three blocks. While Ediger came in off the bench mainly when the results of games were essentially determined, the graduate assistant role in Milwaukee will provide her with valuable skills that she could use to advance herself in the field of coaching, if that is what she desires. Regardless of her future endeavors beyond this upcoming season, Ediger is another example of a former Hawkeye taking their love for the game of basketball to the next level. Matthew Berry's Overall Top 200 for 2025 fantasy football season

With proven mobility on the ground and an improved offensive line in place, Caleb Williams is firmly on the radar as a contender for Matthew Berry's 2025 'Ride or Die' pick. With NFL training camps now in full swing and preseason just around the corner, here are my Top 200 overall players for the 2025 fantasy football season. While these rankings are obviously adaptable, they are intended for 1 QB redraft leagues with full PPR scoring. This big board should also always be used in conjunction with my positional rankings, which you can find here (link). Early on in drafts it's easy to simply take the best player available, but as you get into the later rounds, you're going to need to balance your roster and prioritize individual positions. And remember, you know your league better than I do, so adjust as needed. My rankings tend to skew WR heavy, but if your league loves to draft RBs early, you need to account for that. It doesn't make sense to start your team with Nico Collins and Brian Thomas Jr. if you think the best player available for the next five rounds will also be a WR. You're better off taking Derrick Henry or De'Von Achane with at least one of those picks and scooping up the WR value later. Similarly, I tend to be very high on rookies – it's the easiest way to find upside late in drafts. But if you're in a league that is more cautious with rookies, understand that you can likely get Tre Harris and Jayden Higgins a lot later than I have them ranked. I'll continue to adjust these rankings throughout August as news comes out and depth charts change so make sure to check back for the latest updates. And as always, please let me know what you think of the rankings – what you agree with, what you don't – on social media where I am @MatthewBerryTMR on all platforms (X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky) except the Bleacher Nation Fantasy App where I am merely @MatthewBerry. I'm sure you have opinions on who is too high and who is too low, so hit me up! Matthew Berry's Top 200 Overall Rankings

Paul Finebaum shares what Oklahoma has to do to secure Brent Venables' future

The Oklahoma Sooners report for fall camp on Wednesday to further their preparations for the 2025 college football season. On paper, the Sooners look like an improved team, but there are certainly questions that will need to be answered during fall camp to solidify several spots. Even though the Sooners are an improved team, Oklahoma will face one of the more difficult schedules in the SEC. How Oklahoma manages the schedule in 2025 could determine a lot about the future of the OU Football program. On 'The Paul Finebaum Show,' SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum discussed what it would take for Brent Venables to feel comfortable coming out of the 2025 season. Finebaum believes Oklahoma has to start the season 5-0, going into the Red River Showdown with the Texas Longhorns. The SEC Network/ESPN college football analyst believes OU loses to Texas and will need to go 4-2 down the stretch for Venables to stick around Norman for 2026. 'If they can win all but maybe two of those games, I think that Brent Venables may have a great record and will likely be around for a while,' Finebaum said. 'Otherwise, I think you know the answer to the question.' A 9-3 season would put Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff discussion. But it would depend on who the three losses were to. If Oklahoma lost to Texas, Alabama, and LSU, they'd have a pretty strong case for inclusion in the College Football Playoff, even with three losses. If one of those losses were to Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, or South Carolina, though difficult matchups, the playoff committee may not be as forgiving. Venables' buy-out is $34.9 million following the 2025 season. Which likely means an 8-4 record or better in the 2025 season keeps him around for another year. If the Sooners go 7-5 or worse, the administration may be having some tough conversations.
