Robert De Niro shares his ultimate parenting tip

Perth Now05-06-2025
Robert De Niro will always "support" his children, even if he disagrees with their choices.
The 81-year-old actor - who has Drena, 57, Raphael, 48, 29-year-old twins Julian and Airyn, Elliot, 27, and Helen Grace, 13, from previous relationships and two-year-old Gia with partner Tiffany Chen - believes the most important thing a parent can do for their kids is to always back their decisions.
He told 'Entertainment Tonight': 'The main thing is to support your kids. As long as they're not hurting themselves, doing anything destructive or anything like that, you have to support them - period.
'Even if you don't go with it—you have to support them. And they have to know that you support them. Always.'
The 'Goodfellas' star hailed his youngest child as "just pure joy".
He added: 'She's two now. It's always wonderful."
The 'Meet the Fockers' actor previously told of how he "somehow makes it work" when it comes to juggling his career with raising a toddler.
He told E! News: "Yeah, she's great! She came on the 'Zero Day' set a few times, I shot that last year. You make it work, somehow. Sometimes I have her on the set with my girlfriend. I'm lucky, I have a camper."
However, Robert admitted he doesn't change the youngster's diapers.
Asked if he does, he recently told The Sunday Times magazine: "No, no, but I used to!"
But the veteran actor enjoys spending early mornings with his little girl.
He said: "I'm an early riser. I spend my mornings watching [YouTuber for toddlers] Ms. Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle."
Robert "tries his best" to be a good dad and to meet his children' s different needs.
He said: "Oh God, they would all have a different answer. Family is so complex.
"I try my best, that's all. I hope they'll be happy."
The 'Killers of the Flower Moon' star previously revealed that he loves it when his brood is all together and enjoys going on family vacations with them.
He told People: 'The fact that they'd all be together is everything to me."
Asked what his favourite thing to do with his children is, he replied: 'Just being together, taking trips to warm places."

Huge blow for Channel 10 as 10 News+ attracts less viewers than The Project

Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. Network 10 received yet another disappointing blow after it's replacement for The Project scored less viewers in its timeslot than the axed show regularly attracted. 10 News+ had received an intense marketing blitz over the last two weeks as the network made its bid to win over new viewers with their promise of putting 'the truth first'. Sadly for Network 10, that promise wasn't enough to win over viewers, with a mere 291,000 tuning in on Monday evening. To put those numbers into perspective, 7News attracted 1.5 million viewers, with 9News close behind with 1.45 million. 10 News+ failed to attract many viewers on Monday night. Picture: 10 X SUBSCRIBER ONLY What really rubs salt in the wound is that the final episode of The Project scored almost 500,000 viewers on Friday evening. After shedding almost half its audience, it remains to be seen whether the network's gamble of cancelling The Project was the right decision. Viewers delivered their verdict on social media on Monday evening, with many labelling 10 News+ a 'Temu ACA'. 'You replaced the project with a Temu ACA not seeing @theprojecttv is incredibly depressing. 10news+ sucks!' remarked one viewer. The show attracted less viewers than The Project. Picture: 10. Another complained about the format of the new show, tweeting: 'Please no more long investigation reports it's 6pm! Much too heavy, much too serious, American looking set and awkward presentation.' 'This is proper @Channel7 style commercial JUNK. It's like watching a cross between Fox News and Anchorman. Why the silly news voices!? questioned another disgruntled viewer. One however, praised the show's lead story on convicted drug smuggler Debbie Voulgaris, who gave an exclusive interview from a Taiwan prison. 'Loving 10 news +, strong launch story. Is this the new Schapelle Corby story we all need to know about. 10 news should be very proud,' they wrote. Another added: 'That was a decent first show'. The news show's interview with the Prime Minister also sparked some viewer backlash, with journalists Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace being called out for their interviewing techniques, which saw the PM interrupted multiple times. 'Some ridiculous questions and hectoring tone from both hosts in this very disappointing interview with the PM,' ranted one. 'You replaced #theprojecttv for this tabloid junk? I'm turning this off!' complained another. 'This is trash, so dry and bland. Time for the project 2.0 and a game show in a prime time slot up against Home and Away. Good luck!' tweeted a third unimpressed viewer. While a fourth added: 'Oh dear. I thought I would give 10 News Plus a go. I feel like we have regressed 20 years!' Nikki Garcia doesn't want to date following Artem Chigvintsev divorce

Nikki Garcia isn't interested in dating following her split from Artem Chigvintsev. The 41-year-old WWE star and the Dancing With the Stars professional divorced after two years of marriage last year but she isn't in a rush to find love again as she focuses on caring for her son Matteo, four, and her career in the ring and on TV. Speaking to her twin sister Brie Garcia on their The Nikki and Brie Show podcast, Nikki said: "At his age right now, I get so much love that I realise this is all the love I need and want right now." The Total Divas star explained that she has been on "a few" dates since her divorce but is refusing to "waste time and energy" looking for a new man. Nikki explained: "I was like, 'I'm not even going to waste time and energy.' I'm just too tired." She added: "I have Teo and I do career, Teo and career, so that's where I'm at." Nikki and Artem split last year after a row that saw the police called to their home and claims that she was seen as the "villain" in the divorce as she questioned the double standards of how men and women are portrayed by the media. In a preview from her appearance on Kristin Cavallari's Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour obtained by E! News, she said: "I think they make me, like, more of a villain than I am." Kristin - whose own marriage to Jay Cutler ended in 2022 - added: "Of course, you're a woman." Both Nikki and Brie believe that their jobs as professional wrestlers means that the pair are considered to be tougher than they actually are. Nikki said: "I feel like when you're badass women and you kick a** in a ring, people just assume you're not empathetic. "It's like we could go kick so much a** and, yeah, I'll pick a guy out in the crowd. I'll body slam you right now. I can do it... 'I'll pay for your hospital bill." Brie agreed: "Because we're pro wrestlers and all these things, we can come off so hard and tough." Nikki added: "I think that's the biggest misconception." The star also suggested that her WWE persona was used against her during her legal battle with Artem. Nikki said: "People bring up like, 'Well I don't know, 2017, your character in the ring.... I'm like, 'That's not real. I was playing a villain.' I was playing a character and they all think I'm that person. I mean, I heard it in court through the divorce. Because I was a strong woman, a pro wrestler."

Lena Dunham 'in the process' of expanding family

Lena Dunham is "in the process" of "expanding" her family. The Girls creator - who married musician Luis Felber in 2021 - previously revealed she had undergone a hysterectomy after years of struggling with endometriosis and although she can't carry her own children as a result, she revealed she and her husband are planning to have kids, but didn't explain how. She told The Sunday Times' Style magazine: 'It was a grief but it was also a relief. I thought I would have the opportunity to experience my fertility and my cycle waning and it never was. Instead it was a very quick, sharp cut-off… "I will say we're in the process of expanding our family in new ways. 'I want to safely meet our children and then figure out how to talk about it.' Lena and Luis married after just seven months together and the 39-year-old actress-and-writer admitted she is relieved she didn't meet him earlier in her life. She said: 'Whenever I look at old photos of Lou, I just think he would have ruined my life in my twenties. "We would have spent an afternoon together and it would have been the best time of my life and I never would have heard from him again. And then he would have popped up six months later being like, 'I'm back from tour.' ' When they first met, Lena thought Luis was the weirdest person she'd ever met but they quickly fell hard for one another. She said: 'It wasn't possible to resist it. It just felt like: this is what's happening. This is what it is.' The couple are very happy together but argue over Lena's obsession with reality TV shows. She said: 'Lou thinks it's an expression of the apocalypse, and I'm like, 'It is a medium for women and queer people to express themselves and allows previously unseen people and communities to show their talent.' "If I came up with some of that as a comedy writer, I would retire. I love it all.' The pair share their "ropey house" in north London with two dogs and five cats. Lena said: "There are so many animals in the bed. I can't believe I've found someone who is as with it as I am.' The Too Much creator rose to fame when she created and starred in Girls, and looking back at the show, she thinks it is a clear reflection of her own life at the time. She said: 'That was clearly a reflection of how I saw my twenties. 'It's interesting — when I am reminded of the seasons [of Girls], I can see what I was thinking, what place I was in, when I was falling in love, when I was in pain. It's all in there. "I also felt in my twenties there was something embarrassing about writing things that were saccharine or sincere or happy. I was much more interested in irony and satire and harshness and surprising and sometimes scandalising people. " I felt like I needed to reflect the toughest aspects of life back to people so that they would feel less alone. And now I think maybe you can reflect the sweeter parts of life to people so they can feel hopeful.'
