Thieves scaled fence, busted window before ransacking Brad Pitt's L.A. home, sources say

Yahoo2 days ago

LOS ANGELES — Police are investigating a reported burglary at 'F1' actor Brad Pitt's home, two law enforcement sources familiar with the incident told NBC News on Thursday.
Pitt was not home at the time, the sources said.
A Los Angeles police spokesperson confirmed a break-in at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the Los Feliz neighborhood but did not identify who lived there or who owned the home.
Thieves ransacked the home and took an unknown amount of miscellaneous property, officials said. The value of the items was not immediately disclosed.
Police were looking for three people who climbed over a front fence and broke in through the home's front window, the sources said.
It's the latest in a wave of burglaries in recent years that have targeted high-end neighborhoods across Los Angeles and Southern California, where VIPs and celebrities have been victimized.
On Valentine's Day, the Los Angeles home of actor Nicole Kidman and musician Keith Urban was burglarized.
A week before that, the Southern California home of Los Angeles Football Club star forward Olivier Giroud, member of the French National Team that won the 2018 World Cup, was burglarized. In that case, thieves made off with what a source described as 'a significant amount' of jewelry and other items.
Authorities have not said whether any of the crimes are connected to South American burglary crews that have been targeting high-end homes from coast to coast and have been fixtures in the Los Angeles area for more than a decade.

Trump Ignores Funeral Service for Victims of MAGA Madman

President Donald Trump skipped the funeral of slain Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. Among the hundreds in attendance at the service were former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, who paid their respects to the couple slain in what authorities say was a plot targeting Democrats. A eulogy at the Catholic service was given by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, whose eyes were red from crying. 'Maybe this is a moment when each of us can examine the way we work together, the way we talk about each other, the way we fight for the things we care about,' Walz said. 'A moment when each of us can recommit to engaging in politics and life the way Mark and Melissa did: fiercely, enthusiastically, heartily, but without ever losing sight of our common humanity.' The president, however, was not there. Trump didn't issue a statement about the funeral, either. And The White House did not immediately return a request for comment on his absence. The man suspected of killing the Hortmans is Vance Boelter, 57, who was arrested two days after the June 14 attacks, in which state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot and injured. Boelter's car contained a list of potential targets, including his victims, Walz, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Sen. Tina Smith—as well as abortion providers and advocates. A friend of Boelter's described him as a 'strong' supporter of Trump's. Although Trump did not mention the funeral service on social media, he did post several times on Saturday, touting low gas prices and his 'big, beautiful' bill. According to Fox News, Trump spent the morning golfing with Republican senators Eric Schmitt, Lindsey Graham, and Rand Paul and CIA director John Ratcliffe. 'WHY ARE THE DEMOCRATS ALWAYS ROOTING AGAINST AMERICA???,' Trump wrote in one post, hours before Hortman and her husband were laid to rest. In the immediate wake of the shootings, Trump chose not to call Walz and offer support. 'I could call him and say, 'Hi, how you doing?'' Trump said. 'The guy doesn't have a clue. He's a mess. So, you know, I could be nice and call him, but why waste time?' Melissa Hortman, 55, was the top Democrat in Minnesota's House of Representatives. She had previously served as the speaker. The two were shot dead at their home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The couple is survived by their two adult children: daughter Sophie, 28, and son Colin, 30, who wept as Saturday's service began, according to The New York Times. During his eulogy, Walz did not linger on the manner of the couple's death, instead focusing on their lives. He mentioned their love for gardening, playing billiards, and making sourdough, according to the Times. The day before the funeral, Melissa and Mark Hortman—and their beloved dog, Gilbert—lay in state at the Minnesota State Capitol, as thousands of people, including Biden, paid them tribute. Again, Trump was nowhere to be seen.

Multiple businesses burglarized during street takeovers in Bellflower and Lakewood

Several businesses in the Bellflower and Lakewood areas were burglarized on Saturday near the locations of two different street takeovers, deputies said. The first sideshow was reported a little before 2 a.m. near Artesia Boulevard and Woodruff Avenue in Bellflower, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. At the same time, an AM/PM in the 1200 block of Artesia was burglarized, deputies said. Surveillance footage from the convenience store shows the moments that some of the participants in the nearby takeover begin to run through the front doors, jumping over the cashier's counter and ransacking shelves. At one point, one of the suspects can be seen throwing something at the employee inside as he tries to fend them off from entering the store. The group then moved to a beauty store nearby, shattering the windows at the business' entry. A short time later, at around 2:15 a.m. in Lakewood, deputies said there was a second street takeover in the 2700 block of Del Amo Boulevard. Investigators did not have information on any burglarized businesses near the second takeover, but CBS News Los Angeles obtained video from inside a phone store showing a group of suspects ripping display phones off their hooks. "I just want the people that did this to be caught," said the store's owner, who says that there were about 15 people inside of the store during the burglary. No arrests have yet been made, according to LASD, who said it's unclear if the separate incidents are connected to the same group of suspects.

Jim Harbaugh Added To Disturbing Lawsuit Against Ex-Michigan Coach

Jim Harbaugh Added To Disturbing Lawsuit Against Ex-Michigan Coach originally appeared on The Spun. Despite moving on to the NFL to coach the LA Chargers, Jim Harbaugh continues to find himself ensnared in the fallout from his nine-year run at Michigan. Advertisement After the the school's highly publicized sign-stealing scandal involving former Wolverines staffer Connor Stalions, the 2023 national champion has now been tangled up in an even more disturbing case involving ex-UM assistant Matt Weiss. According to the Associated Press, Harbaugh and Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel have been added to a class-action lawsuit targeting Weiss; who was indicted for hacking into the accounts of thousands of college athletes in search of intimate photos and other scandalous information. The complaint alleges that Harbaugh and others in the Wolverines' athletic department knew of Weiss' behavior and still allowed him to work on the staff. "The university's delay in taking meaningful protective action until after a high-stakes game sends a clear message: Student welfare was secondary," attorney Parker Stinar said. Advertisement "Had Harbaugh implemented basic oversight of his staff, plaintiffs and the class would have been protected against predators such as Weiss," the amended lawsuit stated. "Instead, Weiss was a highly compensated asset that was promoted by and within the football program, from which position he was able to, and did, target female student athletes." (Photo by)Back in March, Harbaugh said he was "shocked," "completely shocked," and "disturbed" by the allegations made against his former coach. Where things could get even more sticky however is if Jim's brother John ends up getting tied up in this as well— as Weiss also served with the Baltimore Ravens from 2009-2020.
