MSCB scam: Enforcement Directorate charge sheet names NCP(SP) MLA Rohit Pawar as accused
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) named Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) [NCP(SP)] MLA Rohit Pawar as an accused in a charge sheet submitted recently in the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam. The charge sheet was moved before a special MPs MLA court in Mumbai, though details of it were not immediately available. The MSCB money-laundering case stems from an August 2019 FIR of the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) alleging fraudulent sale of SSKs (Sahakari Sakhar Kharkhana) by then officers and directors of MSCB at throwaway prices to their relatives/private persons without following due procedures. Money-laundering probe | NCP MLA Rohit Pawar appears before Enforcement Directorate Mr. Pawar, MLA of the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party(SP) from Karjat-Jamkhed Assembly seat in Ahilyanagar district, was questioned by the ED twice in the past in connection with the case. The agency has alleged that MSCB, in order to recover an outstanding loan of ₹80.56 crore of Kannad SSK Limited, took possession of all its assets on July 13, 2009 under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act. 'The MSCB then conducted an auction on August 30, 2012 of Kannad SSK by fixing a 'very low' reserve price based on a questionable valuation report,' the ED alleged. "Apart from Baramati Agro Limited, two other parties entered the bidding process. The bidder with the highest bid was technically disqualified on flimsy grounds, whereas the other bidder was already a close business associate of Baramati Agro Limited with no financial capacity or experience of running a sugar unit," it said. The Kannad SSK is "owned" by Baramati Agro Limited, which is a company of Rohit Pawar.

India's oldest water tribunal gets yet another extension after 39 years of unresolved dispute
Nearly four decades after it was constituted, the Ravi and Beas Waters Tribunal — India's oldest active inter-state water dispute tribunal — has been granted yet another one-year extension, effective from August 5. The extension was notified by the Union government and made public on Friday. Formed in April 1986 under the Inter-State River Water Disputes (ISRWD) Act, 1956, the tribunal was tasked with adjudicating water-sharing disputes over the Ravi and Beas rivers among Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Despite forwarding a report in 1987, the tribunal has yet to deliver a final resolution, as the concerned states sought clarifications on several issues, keeping the matter pending for over 39 years. 'The central government, after considering the exigencies of the work involved as pointed out by the tribunal, is of the opinion that it is necessary to extend the period for submission of the further report of the Ravi and Beas Waters Tribunal by one year,' read the official notification. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sharp Design, Smoother Drives. Toyota Glanza Learn More Undo The prolonged delay holds significance not only because of the sheer passage of time but also due to the pending Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute between Punjab and Haryana. The outcome of the tribunal's final report is expected to play a crucial role in resolving the decades-long SYL impasse, as the canal pertains directly to the sharing of Ravi-Beas waters. The Ravi and Beas tribunal is one of five such tribunals in India that continue to function far beyond their initial mandates. Others include: Live Events Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal (constituted in November 2010) for disputes among Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka; Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (constituted in April 2004), the second-oldest, involving Maharashtra, Karnataka and erstwhile Andhra Pradesh; Vansadhara Water Disputes Tribunal (February 2010) between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh; and Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal (March 2018) between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

CM Chandrababu Naidu turned capital project into real estate business: Congress
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President YS Sharmila Reddy on Friday accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of turning the Amaravati capital project into a 'real estate business' through the proposed second phase of land acquisition. She criticised the government's plan to acquire 40,000 more acres of land, questioning why the 33,000 acres acquired in 2015 remain undeveloped. Sharmila highlighted the lack of progress since PM Modi's foundation laying in 2015 in Amaravati, with only weeds to show for it. She questioned the need for a new 5,000-acre airport when Gannavaram airport lacks international flights, and operates only ATR aircraft. She argued that the Centre, under the AP Reorganisation Act, should fund the capital, not the State through private and World Bank loans. Sharmila demanded that Naidu leverage his political influence to get funds from Modi instead of 'slavish devotion'. She noted that 29,000 farmers who gave land, and 23,000 landless families await justice, while tenders worth Rs 53,000 crore raise concern of irregularities.
