3 dead after 2 fatal collisions in southeastern Manitoba
Early Monday morning, a 22-year-old Steinbach man died after a head-on collision in the rural municipality of Hanover.
At about 12:00 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the area of Highway 12, about one kilometre south of Highway 303, Steinbach RCMP said in a Monday news release.
When police arrived, they found one vehicle blocking both lanes of Highway 12. The driver inside, a 22-year-old man from Steinbach, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said the other vehicle was on its side in the ditch. That driver, a 20-year-old man from the rural municipality of De Salaberry, was taken to the hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable.
According to the release, Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate the crash with help from the RCMP's criminal collision investigation team.
Crash kills woman, 39, and girl, 11
A woman and a young girl are dead after their minivan collided with a truck and swerved into a creek on Friday in the community of St. Labre, located about 100 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
On Friday around 12:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on St. Labre Road, Sprague RCMP said in a news release on Monday.
Police said paramedics and firefighters were already on scene when they arrived at the scene. A damaged truck was on the southbound lane, while a minivan was on its side in a creek near the road.
Police said the minivan's driver, a 39-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old girl, who was one of the van's passengers, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-year-old girl, who was also in the van, was taken to hospital with minor injuries
The 72-year-old man who was driving the truck was assessed by paramedics, but didn't need to go to hospital, police said.
Police said the initial investigation found that the minivan was approaching from the north, and veered into the southbound lane as the driver took a curve in the road and crashed into the truck.
Sprague RCMP said officials continue to investigate alongside a forensic collision reconstructionist.
