IPL 2025: Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar dominate powerplay bowling charts following fiery spells against PBKS in Q1
Bhuvneshwar, Hazlewood along with Yash Dayal and Suyash Sharma made a lightwork of a strong PBKS line-up, bundling them out for 101 runs in a clash that gives the winner a direct spot in the final.
Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar have the best economy rate in the powerplay (overs one to six) this season, with 7.20 and 8.00 respectively. Hazlewood has nine wickets in the powerplay and a dot ball percentage of 55.8, while Bhuvneshwar has eight scalps in this phase, with a dot ball percentage of 50.0.
Hazlewood is the top wicket-taker for RCB and overall third-highest, with 21 scalps in 11 innings at an average of 15.80 and best figures of 4/33. His economy rate is 8.33.
On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar has 15 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 29.66, with an economy rate of 9.27 and best figures of 3/33. He is the third-highest wicket-taker for RCB and overall 13th.
The score of 101 by PBKS is the joint-third lowest total in an IPL playoff match. The lowest total in a playoff match is by Deccan Chargers against RCB, who scored just 82 in 2010 during the third-place playoff match, followed by 87 scored by Delhi Capitals (DC) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the semifinal of the 2008 edition.
LSG also scored 101 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2023 eliminator.
14.1 overs is the least overs batted by any team in the IPL playoffs. The previous least was 16.1 overs by Delhi Capitals against RR in IPL 2008.PBKS was reduced to 48/4 in the powerplay itself, with Bhuvneshwar, Hazlewood and Yash firing all cylinders. Marcus Stoinis (26 in 17 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Azmatullah Omarzai (18 in 12 balls, with a four and six) pushed PBKS to 101 in 14.1 overs.

The knee injury had troubled Avesh during the 2024-25 domestic season, and he was forced to miss Madhya Pradesh's last Ranji Trophy league match. The injury also forced Avesh to miss the initial stage of IPL 2025. He finished with 13 wickets in 13 matches. Avesh's last India appearance was in December last year in an ODI in Paarl against South Africa. Meet Anshul Kamboj - Haryana pacer who took 10 wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy, makes India debut in Manchester
Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj was handed his India Test debut on Wednesday against England in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Kamboj, who was a part of the India A squad during their tour of England last month, was a late addition to the senior side after the visiting side were hit by a couple of injuries. Kamboj's debut comes in after pacer Arshdeep Singh was ruled out of the fourth Test due to an injury he suffered on his bowling hand at nets. India also made another two changes - Shardul Thakur and Sai Sudharsan replacing of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Karun Nair. Kamboj thus became the second Indian player to be handed his debut in the ongoing Test series. Sudharsan was handed his Test debut in the first Test in Leeds which India lost by five wickets. Born in Karnal, Kamboj made his first class debut for Haryana in 2022. The young pacer came into limelight when he took 17 wickets in 10 matches in their triumphant Vijay Hazare campaign in 2023. Kamboj's ability to exploit the subtle movement caught the eyes of IPL scouts and was signed by Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With very little chances at Mumbai Indians, Kamboj got traded to Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. He played eight matches for his eight wickets at an economy of exactly 8. It's been a very long time, and they are not playing any other formats. "If you do not play the game continuously, somewhere the game moves ahead and you are left behind," he added. He went on to give an example of former India skipper MS Dhoni, who did not feature in international cricket after India's exit from the 2019 World Cup. Harbhajan called out Dhoni for his batting struggles in the IPL. "It will be hard. We have seen MS Dhoni playing in the IPL. Look at his performance in the last three years," he said. Earlier, former BCCI selector Jatin Paranjpe revealed a conversation with Rohit Sharma, where the latter had expressed his desire of playing Test cricket for India. "I remember he was not playing Test cricket for India. And we had this conversation, and he said, 'I started playing cricket with a red ball, Jatin. How can you say that I am not interested in Test cricket?' I got the message, and I was hoping that that was what he would say," Paranjpe said on 'A Century of Stories' podcast with Cyrus Broacha.
