Uttarakhand Police hosts historic open house session with women officers
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], May 21 (ANI): In a landmark initiative, the Uttarakhand Police organised an open house session with women officers under the chairmanship of Director General Deepam Seth, marking a significant step towards promoting gender inclusivity and empowerment within the force.
The session, held under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar, saw enthusiastic participation from women officers ranging from Sub-Inspectors to Inspector Generals of Police.
A six-member women's team from the Uttarakhand Police recently participated in the 11th National Women Police Conference (NCWP) at Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Chennai. They shared their experiences on topics like work-life balance, mental health, and career development. Their insights contributed to the discussion on creating a supportive and inclusive work environment.
'Efforts have been made to extend the benefits of various public welfare schemes like Smart City Mission, PM Swanidhi Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna and Amrit Mission to every citizen of Uttarakhand. Along with this, with the basic mantra of development and heritage, our rich cultural heritage,' said DGP Ashok Kumar (ANI).
The DGP emphasised the importance of providing women officers with career growth and development opportunities, including special training and postings in key units like Cyber Cell and STF.
'Women personnel will play a greater role in Cyber Cell, STF, SOG, Narcotics Cell, and other vital units', said the DGP. Women officers shared their experiences on balancing work and personal life, highlighting the need for flexible work policies and supportive environments.
Flexible work policies were emphasised to enable women officers to manage their work and family responsibilities effectively. Regular health check-ups, fitness programs, yoga, meditation, and sports were recommended to promote physical and mental well-being among women personnel.
Meanwhile on May 20, the Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami also announced plans to digitise the offices of municipal bodies, enhancing transparency and efficiency. Silver Jubilee Parks will be constructed to provide recreational spaces for citizens.
A training program will be conducted for local women and men to set up hi-tech hair salons and parlours. The targets are 10 hi-tech salons in each municipal corporation, five hi-tech salons in each municipality, and three hi-tech salons in each Nagar Panchayat. (ANI)

J&K: Trial run held at Yatri Niwas base camp ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), June 30 (ANI): A trial run was conducted at Yatri Niwas, the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu, to check the preparedness for the upcoming annual pilgrimage. Buses were sent out under full security cover as part of the exercise to ensure all arrangements are in place. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on July 2. The Yatra will formally begin on July 3 from both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishy, said that all preparations for the yatra have been completed. 'Today, tokens will be distributed at Saraswati Dham. We appeal to people to come in large numbers; we will provide them with all the necessary facilities, and no one will face any issues. We have full preparations for everything,' he told reporters. On Sunday, in a preemptive move to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, a joint mock landslide drill was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force (JKSDRF). The exercise was carried out at Samroli, Toldi Nallah, along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, one of the critical routes for the Yatra. Meanwhile, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Saturday, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start from July 1 to August 9. The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved. The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range Sarah Rizvi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police. SSP Udhampur gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district's security plan, including deployment of forces, convoy and traffic management, safety of camps and langar sites, emergency plans, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams. Addressing the meeting, the DGP emphasised to all the officers to maintain very close coordination, which he said is of utmost importance to ensure an incident-free Yatra. He directed that the zonal/sectoral officers must have the information regarding the availability and location of special teams like Drone Units, BD squad, Dog squad, QRTs etc., to ensure that services of these teams are utilised on a real-time basis in case of any emergency. Through mobile phones, anyone can connect with anyone from anywhere. There is a serious decline in morality. There are many such reasons, and to expect the police to handle all of this alone is not possible." Makwana said domestic supervision has weakened considerably. "Within homes, people are no longer able to keep a watch on each other. Many of the boundaries have been broken, and the kind of obscenity being served through the internet from a young age is undoubtedly distorting children's minds. That, somewhere, is contributing to the increase in such crimes," he added. 'MP police neutralised 10 Naxals in past 6 months' Speaking to journalists in Indore on Sunday after a comprehensive review meeting, DGP Makwana announced significant progress in anti-Naxal operations. 'In its fight against Naxalism, MP police have neutralised 10 Naxals in past six months alone — marking the highest such figure recorded in any single year in the state. Previously, the maximum number of Naxals eliminated in a year stood at six,' the DGP said. The meeting included senior officials from Indore commissionerate and SP and DSP-ranked officers from all eight districts in Indore range. The DGP said, 'While Naxal problem remains widespread in Chhattisgarh, the issue in MP is restricted to Balaghat and Mandla. Among these, Balaghat continues to be most affected. BJP stages protest across West Bengal over Kolkata gangrape case, blames TMC for decline of law and order
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 29 (ANI): Amid the political and social turmoil that has yet again gripped the state of West Bengal following an incident of alleged gangrape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College on June 25, State Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari, along with scores of BJP workers, staged a protest on Sunday evening in Kolkata, condemning the alleged gangrape. The BJP intensified its attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), blaming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government for what they termed a complete breakdown of law and order in the state. Adhikari, addressing the protest, accused the state administration of failing to protect women, noting that the police has 'completely failed'. 'The BJP has been on the streets across the entire state from the first day. No daughter is safe in all of Bengal as long as Mamata Banerjee remains the Chief Minister. It is the police's job to ensure the safety of daughters. The police have completely failed,' he asserted. In Siliguri, the BJP Mahila Morcha held a 'Mashal March' demanding justice against the alleged gang-rape incident. The incident has sparked public outrage and led to a wave of political protests, with BJP leaders holding the TMC government responsible for deteriorating women's safety across the state. Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, declaring the law and order situation in the state as 'grave'. 'Mamata Banerjee is a complete failure and totally out of control. If she remains in her post, such situations will continue to recur against the women of West Bengal,' said Majumdar. Shortly after his release from Lalbazar Police Headquarters -- where he was detained for protesting against the incident -- earlier today, Majumdar announced that BJP workers would take out a 'Mashal Juloos' as a form of protest. 'We will not spare this government has turned a blind eye to this issue. We will go to jail as many times as needed. The fight will continue,' he asserted. The BJP had also called for the resignation of the Chief Minister following the incident. While the BJP has launched an aggressive campaign against the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government, leaders from other national parties have urged restraint and called for justice without politicisation. National Spokesperson of the NCP-SP faction Seema Malik called for a balanced response to the incident. 'We should not be selective of states in such incidents. CM Mamata Banerjee is a responsible lady, and in such a short time, all four accused were arrested. However, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has a selective approach,' Malik said, questioning what she described as politically biased outrage. Congress MP Imran Masood also commented on the matter, taking a more neutral stance. 'Our law is very strict. If any criminal incident has happened, then strict actions should be taken against it. Politics should not be done over such incidents,' Masood said. Meanwhile, the TMC has issued a show cause notice to its party leader and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra following his 'unwanted, unnecessary, and insensitive comments' on the gangrape case. The notice, signed by West Bengal TMC President and Rajya Sabha MP Subrata Bakshi, demands an explanation within three days from Mitra for breaching party discipline, following his remarks on the incident that were widely criticised for victim-blaming. The controversy erupted after Mitra's comment, where he suggested that the incident could have been avoided if the victim had not gone alone to the location. 'This incident has sent a message to girls that if someone calls you when the college is closed... nothing good will come of it. If that girl had not gone there, this wouldn't have happened. If she had informed someone before going or had taken a couple of friends with her, then this wouldn't have happened,' Mitra said on Saturday. BJP leader Gourav Vallabh slammed Mitra's remarks on the incident, stating, 'Despite having a woman Chief Minister, Bengal has become number one in the country in terms of harassment, exploitation and atrocities on women. TMC in Bengal works to save the accused and does not stand with the victim's family. We demand that if Mamata Banerjee has even 0.1 per cent morality left, she should resign. TMC has become the darling of atrocities on women today.' The BJP has also announced it has formed a four-member fact-finding committee that will visit the incident site and submit a report to party president JP Nadda. The committee comprises Satpal Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Biplab Kumar Deb, and Manan Kumar Mishra. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan earlier also called for the need to 'free' West Bengal from the TMC, drawing parallels between the party's governance in the state and the Emergency imposed by the Congress in 1975. Speaking during a press conference, Pradhan criticised the TMC for perpetuating a 'dangerous mindset' that he claims undermines the state's educational and social fabric. Earlier, on June 25, a female student was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba area. The police have arrested three persons, including the main accused, and a five-member Special team has been formed to investigate the incident. The main accused, Manojit Mishra, and his accomplices, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, have been remanded to police custody till July 1. (ANI)
