Kin accept Kavin's body five days after 'honour killing'
The body, which was preserved at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TvMCH) after postmortem, was handed over to Kavin's father C Chandrasekar and taken to his native village, Arumugamangalam in Thoothukudi, amid tight police security.
The body was taken in a procession, in which a large number of people took part, to a crematorium on the outskirts of Arumugamangalam and was cremated around 3pm, sources said.
According to sources, Kavin's family members, who were initially reluctant to receive the body demanding the arrest of the prime suspect's parents, were convinced to conduct the funeral, following a decision taken by family elders and community leaders.
They have received the body trusting that the government will take stringent action against all the accused as promised, said a relative of Kavin.

His mortal remains were taken out in a procession to his native village, accompanied by hundreds of people in over 50 vehicles. After receiving his son's body, Kavin's father accused Palayamkottai inspector Kasipandian of being casteist and demanded his dismissal from service, claiming the official acted in a biased manner in the case. However, in a statement, the Tirunelveli city police denied the allegation.

Gold jewellery worth Rs 8.5 lakh missing from locked safe
Mangaluru: A theft case was reported at Barke police station limits after a woman alleged that gold jewellery weighing around 171g and valued at approximately Rs 8.5 lakh was stolen from her home. The complainant, Pooja P, stated that her husband, who works abroad, returned home on July 19. The couple lives in a joint family, and due to the poor health of her husband's grandmother, Ratna, a woman named Geetha from Karwar was hired as a daytime caregiver. On July 20, Pooja, along with her husband, children, and other relatives, visited the Polali temple. Before leaving, she wore a gold bangle from a jewellery box stored inside a safe locker in a bedroom cupboard. The next day, she returned the bangle to the box, placed it back in the locker, locked it, and kept the key under some papers inside the cupboard shelf. The cupboard door was shut but not locked. Later that evening, when she went to retrieve the key, it was missing. Despite an extensive search, the key could not be located, and she assumed it was misplaced. Bhubaneswar: With Odisha being targeted as a potential destination for hydroponic marijuana, a Bangkok-based drug cartel is using airport-hopping tactics to smuggle the contraband into the state, a senior official of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) told TOI on condition of anonymity. After two failed attempts at Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), carriers are now suspected to be rerouting consignments through airports like Jharsuguda, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru to avoid detection. "Once they escape scrutiny at any of these airports, they use other modes of transport to deliver the consignment. Last month, a marijuana consignment was seized at Kolkata airport," the official said. In two recent busts, hydroponic marijuana worth a total of Rs 40 crore was seized. The carriers in both cases were unrelated and came from different states—three from Uttar Pradesh in the first case, and one from Gujarat in the second. "The carriers are only handed an air ticket at Bangkok airport and are instructed to carry the consignment.
