The Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra began peacefully in Nuh amid tight security after a mazar was vandalised in Tauru. Seers from UP and Rajasthan also participated in the procession
The Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra began on Monday from the Nalhar Mahadev temple in Haryana's Nuh amid heavy security, following the vandalism of a mazar in Tauru the previous night. Authorities have heightened security measures to ensure peace during the religious procession.
The 80-kilometre yatra will pass through Jhir Mandir in Ferozepur Jhirka and conclude in Singar by Monday evening, news agency PTI reported. The yatra is taking place under strict security following communal clashes during the same event in 2023, which resulted in six deaths.
Police said that an unidentified group of people damaged a mazar in Sainipura area of Tauru town in Nuh district late Sunday. In response, a large number of police personnel have been deployed at the site. Officials have reassured residents that the situation is under control and peaceful.
'The administration is taking necessary action in connection with the damage to the mazar in Tauru. It will be ensured that the Jalabhishek yatra is organised in a peaceful and harmonious environment in the district," PTI quoted Nuh Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena as saying.
Seers and devotees from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have participated in the procession, which marks the first Monday of the Shravan month. Nuh's Additional Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Malik said all security and logistical arrangements are in place.
'People from all communities have set up welcome gates at different points and are showering flower petals on devotees to welcome them. This shows the brotherhood and bond which people in the Mewat region shared with one another. Many people are offering their services as volunteers. Today is the first Monday of Shravan month and there is great enthusiasm among devotees," Malik said.
2,500 Cops Deployed, Schools Shut
To prevent any disruption, around 2,500 police personnel have been deployed. All schools in the district have been closed. Further, internet services will remain suspended till 9 pm on July 14. The carrying of weapons, including licensed arms and sharp objects, has been strictly prohibited. Only Sikh kirpans are exempted from the restriction. Additionally, the use of DJs, loudspeakers or sound-amplifying devices with content that is religiously provocative or hurts the sentiments of any community is also strictly prohibited during the yatra, according to an order issued by the authorities.
Meat shops along the yatra route are closed since Sunday whereas meat shops along the Kanwar route will remain closed till July 24.

‘Dance bar' in Mumbai has permit in name of Sena minister's mother, he should resign: Parab

He also alleged Kadam diverted sand from the Jagbudi river in Ratnagiri, his home district, to a dental college linked to his family when the construction material was meant to be given to farmers. Speaking in the legislative council, Parab sought the resignation of Kadam, who is minister of state (MoS) handling home and revenue departments, among others, citing 'conflict of interest'. Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab on Friday alleged a 'dance bar' in Mumbai had permit in the name of the mother of Maharashtra minister Yogesh Kadam, a charge rejected as baseless by the latter. Talking to reporters in Vidhan Bhavan premises here, Kadam, a Shiv Sena member, termed the charges made by Parab as blatant lies and added 'wrong proofs' have been presented by him. Speaking in the council during the opposition-sponsored 'Last Week Motion', Parab said on May 30, police raided 'Saavali' bar in Mumbai's Kandivali area. Dance bars are banned in Maharashtra. Police apprehended 22 bar dancers, 22 customers and four staff members during the raid at the establishment, the opposition MLC, a former state minister, said. 'The permit (of the establishment) was in the name of the mother of MoS Home (Kadam). This is a clear conflict of interest. Can a serving minister do business related to his department?' Parab asked. Rules clearly state that if a contractor misuses a bar licence (after being allowed to run it), the establishment owner is generally held responsible as they are ultimately accountable for operations of the facility and compliance with norms, he maintained. 'The chief minister should seek his resignation today,' Parab demanded. The dental college, where Kadam allegedly diverted sand from the Jagbudi river, is named after the minister's sister and he was also a director of the educational institute, claimed the Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator. An angry Kadam refuted all the allegations made by Parab as baseless. 'All the allegations were baseless and aimed at defaming me. Name of my mother has been unnecessarily involved in the allegations. So at an appropriate time I will prove that all allegations were false and all proofs were fake,' asserted the Shiv Sena minister. PTI PR ND RSY This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. UK sanctions Russian spies, hackers for ‘malicious' cyber activity

London, Jul 18 (PTI) The UK on Friday imposed sanctions against Russian spies and hackers for allegedly conducting a sustained campaign of malicious cyber activity over many years across Europe, including in the UK. The latest set of measures unveiled by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) target three units of the Russian military intelligence agency GRU and 18 military intelligence officers. The British government said that GRU routinely uses cyber and information operations to sow chaos, division and disorder in Ukraine and across the world, with 'devastating real-world consequences". 'GRU spies are running a campaign to destabilise Europe, undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and threaten the safety of British citizens," said UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. 'The Kremlin should be in no doubt: we see what they are trying to do in the shadows and we won't tolerate it. That's why we're taking decisive action with sanctions against Russian spies… [US President] Putin's hybrid threats and aggression will never break our resolve. The UK and our Allies support for Ukraine and Europe's security is ironclad," he said. Russia's Unit 26165, which was sanctioned on Friday, is said to have conducted online reconnaissance to help target missile strikes against Mariupol in Ukraine in 2022 – including the strike that destroyed the Mariupol Theatre where hundreds of civilians, including children, were murdered. The GRU military intelligence officers sanctioned are said to be responsible for historically targeting Yulia Skripal's device with malicious malware known as X-Agent – five years before GRU military intelligence officers' failed attempt to murder former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with the deadly Novichok nerve agent in Salisbury. The FCDO said that in the UK, Russia has targeted media outlets, telecoms providers, political and democratic institutions, and energy infrastructure. The United Kingdom and our international allies are watching Russia and are countering their attacks both publicly and behind the scenes. The ministry has flagged hybrid threats as cyber-attacks involving hacking government systems or stealing trade secrets; disinformation or spreading false or misleading information online; sabotage or damaging infrastructure or supply chains; and political interference or influencing elections or public opinion. 'The UK government is committed to accelerating its efforts to counter hybrid threats at home, protecting the UK's national security – a key foundation of the Plan for Change – and abroad, working in collaboration with a growing international coalition including all 32 NATO Allies, the EU and its member states, and our partners in the FBI," the FCDO said. 'The Kremlin has also used cyber operations in support of Putin's illegal war – including targeting critical infrastructure like Viasat satellite communications. Some of these attacks were conducted on the eve of the full-scale invasion in 2022 with the express purpose of degrading Ukraine's ability to defend itself," it said. The UK accused Russia of 'insidious activity" that stretches far beyond Europe. In addition to the GRU Units and officers, the UK government also sanctioned three leaders of 'African Initiative", a social media content mill established and funded by Russia and employing Russian intelligence officers to conduct information operations in West Africa. This includes reckless attempts to undermine lifesaving global health initiatives in the region by pushing baseless conspiracy theories to further the Kremlin's political agenda, the FCDO said.
