Steelers linked to another tight end trade target — Seahawks' Noah Fant

USA Today4 hours ago

It must be Groundhog Day in the Steel City — as the Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to another tight end trade target.
As Pittsburgh's rumored interest in Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith and Falcons TE Kyle Pitts has begun to simmer down, CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin predicted the Seahawks to trade TE Noah Fant to the Steelers. Here's how Benjamin justified the proposal:
"Even after securing Metcalf as their new No. 1 wideout, the Steelers have reportedly been sniffing around for pass catchers, in part to replace the gifted but volatile Pickens. And Fant — more so than, say, the Atlanta Falcons' Kyle Pitts — would seem to be readily available in Seattle. The Seahawks spent a second-round draft pick on fellow tight end Elijah Arroyo, whose athleticism could quickly vault him into a starting role, and trading Fant would save the team close to $9 million in 2025, the last year of the veteran's deal. As a bonus, Fant previously spent three years working alongside current Steelers assistant Zach Azzanni in Denver."
Benjamin acknowledged that the Seahawks would be hesitant to send their only proven tight end option to Pittsburgh, while also arguing that the Steelers could have too many mouths to feed in their own tight end room.
Although trade predictions have been piling up as NFL news slows down — especially with nearly a month remaining until training camp — this speculative proposal is far more feasible than the viral Najee Harris trade report.
Could Pittsburgh ultimately pull off a trade before camp? And if they do, will the Steelers address their defense with a star corner like Jalen Ramsey — or perhaps reunite Aaron Rodgers with a former teammate in WR Allen Lazard?

Rumor: Steelers offered Watt new deal — but not Myles Garrett money

T.J. Watt's contract dilemma just took another unexpected turn, as longtime sportswriter Mark Kaboly reported that the belief is the Steelers have presented a contract offer to Watt — just not one that he'd sign. Kaboly recently explained on his podcast with co-host Chris Mack what he believes the holdup might be: Advertisement "I'm under the belief that there is a contract offer on the table right now — which is pretty significant. However, it's probably not what [Watt] thinks it is." Mack clarified that the deal isn't "Garrett money," to which Kaboly responded: "Yes. I'm not one hundred percent sure on that, but it's not like they're offering him, you know, $15 million and 'Hey, you're playing for the Steelers, so take it right now.' There is an offer on the table." It was previously rumored that Watt was seeking to surpass Garrett's $123.5 million in guaranteed money. This is no easy feat to accomplish, as the Browns edge rusher more than reset the market — he practically destroyed it. Steelers, T.J. Watt receive contract update — and it could be bad news for Myles Garrett

T.J. Watt may soon become the NFL's highest-paid defender — at least that's what insider James Palmer is hearing. On Wednesday, Palmer provided an update on Watt's contract negotiations with the Steelers — and it could spell bad news for Myles Garrett's historic four-year, $160 million deal (courtesy of Bleacher Report): Advertisement "I'm hearing there's a chance Watt gets past [$40 million]," Palmer said. "Which is something we're really keeping an eye on, right? If he gets that $40 million a year, at the age he is at, he has every right to ask for it. I've talked on here a lot about the comparison between him and Myles Garrett. The numbers are almost identical in every aspect. … [Watt] has the right to try and get that." It's been speculated that Watt is seeking to surpass Garrett's guaranteed money of $123.5 million, but if the Steelers defender can usurp the throne for highest-paid defender as well, it's just another feather in his cap over the Browns defensive end. Insider provides big update on T.J. Watt's contract situation with Steelers

This article originally appeared on During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network provided the latest on T.J. Watt's contract situation with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite a report suggesting that Watt will exceed Myles Garrett's record-breaking deal, Rapoport hasn't got an indication that will occur. Advertisement 'I still believe it's gonna work out. But I hadn't heard that number,' Rapoport said. 'And I hadn't heard that anything is imminent.' The Cleveland Browns made Garrett the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history this offseason by giving him a contract extension that pays him $40 million per year. Meanwhile, Watt is scheduled to earn just $21.05 million in salary in 2025, none of which is guaranteed. Rapoport added that he thinks there's a long way to go until Watt and the Steelers reach a deal. Watt could have a hold-in during training camp like he did in 2021.
