TMBU under fire over fake Admit cards; Controller of examination served show cause, assistant suspended
Taking strong note of the incident, the vice chancellor (VC) Prof Jawahar Lal has constituted a team to probe the allegations. The controller of examination (CE) Prof Krishna Kumar has been served show cause.
'On the basis of preliminary investigation, the assistant Sanjay Kumar has been suspended and three clerical staff Mohammad Taslim, Shashi Kumar and Manik Chand have been transferred,' public relation officer (PRO) of VC, Prof Deepak Kumar Dinkar told HT over phone on Friday. He said, '17 mobile phones of all the staff under suspicion have been seized for further investigation and strict legal action will be taken against all those involved in it.'
He said, 'The controller of examination Prof Krishna Kumar has been served show cause notice today (Friday) and he has been asked to submit his explanation within 24 hours.' He said that one contractual staff Avineet Kumar has been stopped from visiting the examination department till investigation concludes.
Notably a number of students of the TMBU were debarred from appearing at the ongoing examination of the final year of graduation (Old course) after their admit cards were found to be fake. Later these students approached the CE and lodged complaints alleging that they had paid ₹3000 to 8000 to Sanjay Kumar for the admit cards.
Even one student who appeared with his mark sheet accused the same staff of demanding ₹8000 from him for issuing a mark sheet with increased marks. 'When I asked for CLC (College leaving certificate) much to my chagrin, they declared my mark sheet fake,' Manish Kumar of Marwari College said, prompting him to reach the staff. 'But I found the staff absent and his phone was found switched off,' he told HT.
As many as 30 students were debarred from appearing at the examination as their admit cards were found to be fake.
Reliable sources within university told HT, 'Corruption in the examination department is not new, this has been going on for a long time, however, fortunately or unfortunately the matter has come into light now.'

Pune student drowns at Kashid beach
NAVI MUMBAI: A day trip to the Kashid beach in Murud taluka, ended in tragedy after 20-year-old Tanishk Malhotra, a student from Pune, drowned here on July 1. The group entered the sea for a swim but misjudged the depth and the strength of the waves. While the others managed to return safely to the shore, Tanishk was pulled under by strong currents and went missing. Rescue efforts were launched by the Murud police, coast guard, local lifeguards, Sahyadri Vanyajiv Rakshanartha Samajik Sanstha (SVRS) team, and other emergency services. 'Tanishk's body was located at around 7:45 am,' said Dahimkar. His remains were later sent to Murud Rural Hospital for further procedures.

Body found at Delhi water plant was of gang rivalry victim, six held: Police
New Delhi Police said eight were involved in the murder. (Representative photo) Two days after a body, with a cloth tied around the neck and bearing multiple stab wounds, surfaced at the Haiderpur water treatment plant, police on Thursday identified the victim as a 14-year-old boy, who was abducted and murdered in a gang rivalry at Samaypur Badli on the intervening night of June 29 and 30. Two men, identified as Krishna Mehto,19, and Ashmit Singh,18, were arrested, and four minor boys were apprehended in connection with the murder, police said. 'Mehto's interrogation revealed that he was humiliated and brutally beaten up by members of the notorious Badhawar gang, involved in robbery and bootlegging, on Diwali last year. Mehto suspected the 14-year-old boy and his friends of being informers and conniving with the Badhawars in the assault. He had been planning for a long time to take revenge,' said deputy commissioner of police (outer-north) Hareshwar V Swami. HT previously reported how bodies dumped in the Munak canal, which starts from Haryana, end up at the Haiderpur plant due to a lack of any mechanism, such as nets or boundary walls. On June 29 night, Mehto, Singh and six others met at Jeevan Park in Samaypur Badli and decided to kill the boy. They spotted the boy near Veer Chowk Bazar, assaulted him and abducted him in front of his friends on a motorcycle. 'They took him near the Munak canal in Samaypur Badli area, where they tied a scarf around his mouth so that he could not scream, stripped him, threw his clothes in the canal, assaulted him and took turns to stab him multiple times. They threw his body in the canal and fled,' the DCP said. Two other suspects were traced in Haridwar, police said.
