Decision on Zayn Rayyan neglect case to be known tomorrow
Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh is scheduled to give the decision at the end of the prosecution case at 9am.
If the court decides that the prosecution has succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Ismanira and Zaim Ikhwan, then they will be called to defend themselves, while if not, the two accused will be released and acquitted of the charges.
On April 24, the prosecution closed the case after calling 28 prosecution witnesses throughout the 20-day trial which began on Feb 4.
Among the prosecution witnesses called to testify were the first person to find Zayn Rayyan's body, Faizul Najib Abd Munaim, Auni Afiqah Abas who was Zayn Rayyan's caregiver, forensic medical consultant Dr Rohayu Shahar Adnan, three investigating officers and two 10-year-old child witnesses.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi, while lawyers Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh represented both accused.
Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira, both aged 30, were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55pm on Dec 6, 2023.
They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted.
Zayn Rayyan, 6, was reported missing on Dec 5, 2023 and his body was found the next day in a stream near his house.

Mancha said the incident began in mid-June when the victim came across an online investment offer for 'GVD Coins' while browsing Facebook. 'The victim, who was enticed by the scheme, asked his family members to prepare a certain amount of money for the investment. 'His family members advised the victim not to easily trust in investments offered online but he ignored their advice. 'In this case, the victim carried out several monetary transactions in stages into the bank account provided by the suspect amounting to about RM800,000,' he said in a statement. Realising he had been scammed after failing to receive any returns, the victim lodged a police report. Mancha cautioned the public against falling for online investment schemes that promise high returns in a short time, stressing that these are often too good to be true. 'The people are also encouraged to check the list of approved investment companies or websites at the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) website or BNM Telelink 1-300-88-5465 or for the Securities Commission. 'Individuals who suspect they have fallen victim to cybercrime including phone scams, love scams, e-commerce fraud, or bogus loans should immediately contact the National Scam Response Center (NSRC) at 997 if they have just completed a fund transfer to the scammer's account or e-wallet,' he said. Kelantan Govt open To Talks With Police, Mac Over LGBT Programme
KOTA BHARU, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government has expressed its willingness to meet with all relevant parties, including the police and the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC), regarding the recent organisation of a programme related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in Kota Bharu. Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the meeting is to discuss and gain a clearer understanding of the event's organisation, so that the matter may be resolved diplomatically and dispel any unfounded allegations. 'Perhaps the mistake made was not the organiser's fault. That's why it needs to be investigated first, so that the police are not wrongfully blamed by the public. The police have their job, and on the other side, MAC also has its responsibilities.
